William Arist - "Form" - (4:55) 139 BPM
Review: SHDW's label marks its twentieth release with this weighty compilation. Drawing on some of the most respected names in techno, volume three is full of peak-time bangers. There's the lean, rolling techno of Chlar's "Inside Us", while Dax J showers the listener with waves of acid tones on the steely, peak-time "Celestial Dub". The Advent's "Randomized" is a bruising and quite brilliant industrial techno workout. While Blawan's hyperactive "Don't You Dare Squawk At Me" hovers just below the 160 bpm mark, not all of the compilation is as intense. Vocals are mixed with chiming chords on Gary Beck's "Fold" and Z.I.P.P.O's "Broken Game" is a deep Detroit techno track.

Review: Len Faki's "Fusion Remixes 01/03" on Figure delves into the acclaimed album "Fusion," reimagining its diverse tracks through the lens of renowned techno artists. This release presents a fascinating exploration, showcasing contrasting interpretations and highlighting the versatility of Faki's original work. While remaining rooted in techno, the remixes delve into various subgenres, showcasing the versatility of the original tracks and the talent of the remixers. From the stripped-back industrial of O [Phase]'s "Temple" remix to the euphoric trance influences in Planetary Assault Systems' take on "Yantra," each track offers a unique perspective. Each remixer brings their own magic. rRoxymore's "Tor 8" remix pulsates with dark energy, while Djrum's "Don't Be Stupid Day" is a distorted, raw dancefloor weapon. Pangaea's "Space Cowboys I" remix adds a touch of light and groove, making it an infectious earworm.

Counterclockwise EP
Squad - (4:57) 138 BPM
Unmute - (6:35) 139 BPM
Review: Skov Bowden lands on Beard Man with a distinctive dance floor EP. "Squad" samples tribal chants and resounds to a ghetto swing. On "Class_C" and "Projektor", he opts for a different approach. Based on minimal rhythms, tweaked tones and utilitarian percussion, it is inspired by the 90s minimalism of Steve Stoll. "Unmute" also focuses on a stripped back approach - but on this occasion, Bowden layers insistent riffs that build and build over the angular rhythm. "Driver" is built on concrete kicks, which act as the basis for him to weave in tripped out vocal samples. Gene Richards Jnr delivers a raw and ready take on "Squad", which is led by a pulsing bass and jittery percussion.

Weather Radar - (5:37) 135 BPM
Review: On Taken Away, MORD's offshoot continues its mission to deliver hard-edged but inventive techno. The work of Ruman, it applies experimental sensibilities to the dance floor. The brilliantly-named "They Were Dying of Old Age, That's It" is led by gnarly kicks and noisy percussion, with Ruman layering in intense bleeps. Similarly, "Faced With A Formful of Clever People" resounds to high-paced, bass frequencies. While the dense, rolling "Look At It" and the grainy drums of "10,000 Hours" both point to a clubbier approach, the overall approach is intense and visceral - most ably embodied by the grating riffs and high-paced industrial techno of "Mary Got A Quarter".

Inner City Blues EP
Various
Aladarus & Shabaam - "Colossal" - (5:50) 136 BPM
Review: Planet Rhythm continues its commitment to supporting new artists on this fine split release. Shabaam & Aladarus kick-start the EP with "Colossal", their debut for the label. Led by surging chords and tight percussive bursts, it lives up to its title. Lenny San's "Orbital" follows in a similar vein, albeit with a more intense take, as chords bluster and build over tough kicks and insistent hi hats. OFF / GRID, who has become a regular artist on Planet Rhythm, fuses tight percussion and steely drums with a looped synth on "Inner City Blues". Maintaining this tough but musical theme, Rove Ranger's "Onakum" integrates vocal snatches with hissing hi hats and dubby stabs.

Slam - "Exhibit 3" - (5:52) 136 BPM
Fixeer - "Sentinel" - (6:32) 138 BPM
Skj?ld - "Stearic Acid" - (6:11) 135 BPM
Yrsen - "Sonic Encounters" - (5:39) 136 BPM
Review: The Exhibit series aims to showcase emerging artists who operate at the raw end of the techno spectrum. While not a new act, label owners Slam get the ball rolling with their own "Exhibit 3", which revisits the raw, jacking sound of their Snapshots release. EJA's "Detachment Theory" represents a more contemporary take on underground techno. Led by a pumping, heads-down groove and relentless, doubled-up claps, it also features mysterious synth builds. Similarly atmospheric sounds inhabit Skjöld's "Stearic Acid" - but on this occasion, they are woven into a stripped back, percussive groove. Favouring a more abrasive direction, ANNĒ's "Keinlicht" revolves around a visceral rhythm and ominous synth lines, echoing vintage Steve Bicknell.

Endless Love
Gunz Blazin (original mix) - (5:56) 138 BPM Hot
Stabbed In The Heart (original mix) - (5:13) 137 BPM
Played by: Anders (BR)
Review: Honorio first made his name as a drum'n'bass producer, but as Endless Love demonstrates, he is also adept at making dance floor techno. The title track features Theo Nasa's ominous vocals unfolding over robust tribal drums and dynamic percussive twists, making for a moody techno track. "Gunz Blazin" is a house-influenced affair. Led by filtered samples and a rolling groove, it reveals a lighter side to Honorio's sound. On "Stabbed In The Heart", he opts for a deeper approach - focused on tribal drums and spaced-out synths, it's an expertly measured homage to Octave One. The release also features a sleek, steely take of the title track by label owner Len Faki under his Hardspace alias.

Review: This latest helping of futuristic goodness from the Top Drawer Digital team sees them dive into their third full length compilation drop, once again expanding the 'Abstractions' series with a solid helping of new school breakbeat flavour. Featuring 36 creations, this selection is a DJ's secret weapon for certain, with the likes of Kefford, Sub Fusion, Outrage, Sanxion, S.U.R.E and Nyxen alongside many more delivering top quality additions to the track listing. For us, this is a project best absorbed through the attached continuous DJ MIX, but our standouts would have to include the brain-boggling wave synth work of The Rumblist's 'Mind Blown', alongside the more throwback metallic dinks of Lucas's 'Light & High Beauty' original. Sensational stuff from all involved.

Rich String - (5:40) 138 BPM
Played by: Domenic Cappello
Review: For its latest instalment, Fuse enlists the services of Dold. Known for pure techno releases on Blue Hour and his own Arsenik imprint, Rider drops an excellent, diverse four-tracker. "Smile" is a lean, pulsating groove, peppered with acid squelches. Meanwhile on "Old News", Dold puts the focus on robust, steely drums - which act as the basis for a stripped back, rolling groove. The other pieces reveal a more musical side to Dold's sound and the insistent groove of "Rich String" resounds to a moody organ riff. Best of all though is the title track, a richly melodic Detroit groove that recalls Aril Brikha's futuristic leanings.

Review: This 2024 reissue of an all time and much love classic Raumgleiter by Der Dritte Raum presents an exceptional concept trance album that remains ahead of its time, defying the stigma once and sometimes attached to the genre. Highlighting tracks like "Hale Bopp" and "Polarstern," which made waves in big rooms at the time, the real gem lies in "Lava," transitioning seamlessly from acid builds to progressive trance, which then leads perfectly into "Hale Bopp." Der Dritte Raum's hypnotic beats and catchy melodies went far to transport listeners to other dimensions back in the day, and a fresh 2024 re-up does the same thing- groundbreaking stuff for trance enthusiasts.

Review: Raffaele Attanasio delivers an impressive, expansive EP on SHDW's label. "Madrigal" kick-starts the release in full-blooded deep techno mode, with a high-paced groove, relentless hi hats and jazzy undercurrents recalling vintage Dave Angel. The title track explores similar territories and centres on emotive breakdowns and insistent stabs. "Heat" moves at a similar pace. Powered by rolling tribal drums and insistent metallic riffs, it also recalls the same heady techno sound of the mid-90s. "Aogiri Tree" is more menacing as a looped groove plays host to ominous sub-bass. On "Stratford Fog", Attanasio slips into house mode, but while the pace dips, the approach remains the same, with a focus on dense drums and vocal snatches.

Review: In a career that spans over 20 years, Ramon Tapia has released a wide range of music. This follow-up to last year's Circular on Tronic sees him very much in techno mode. It means that while "Funk Robot" resounds to insistent disco filters, the underlying rhythm is tailored for fans of looped grooves. There are no such nuances on the title track, where Tapia drops slamming kicks and dramatic synths. Similarly, "Saturated Mind" is led by insistent electronic stabs, unfolding over relentless percussion and tough kicks. On "Dark Pressure", Tapia layers a cacophony of steely hi hats over robust drums, recalling the sound of Mike Denhert.

Review: Dustin Zahn returns to Blueprint to deliver a four-tracker that resounds to understated force. "Rotator" is an atmospheric, rolling track. Led by dense, tribal drums and featuring mysterious synth lines, it's a subtle but impactful track. "Conduit of Chaos" is based on a similar premise - although on this occasion, the rhythm is more stripped back and is powered by impactful claps. The pulsating, clanging bass at the heart of "Catharsis" lends it the requisite punch for its flowing groove. The title track is the most up-tempo track on the release - and it sees Zahn deliver a gradually building, vocal-sampling percussive sucker punch.

Review: The hugely talented John Heckle dons his Head Front Panel alias to deliver this debut on Dark Machine Funk. In what is a slight departure from the project's usual approach, otherworldly synths are fused with dense break beats on "Panama". It's only a temporary divergence: Jeff Mills' influence bubbles to the surface on "Surdo", a dense Purposemaker-style groove - replete with dissected vocal samples. Meanwhile the title track sees Heckle drop a stripped back workout that centres on steely drums and metallic percussion. "Them" also pays homage to Detroit's darker side. Powered by dense kicks and snapping percussion, Heckle weaves in layers of mysterious synths, adding to its allure.

Review: Michel Lauriola is the latest artist to grace MORD sub-label Kazerne - and Calm Chaos is sure to appeal to fans of tough club techno. The release starts with the dense, rolling groove of "Complete" before Lauriola ups the tempo and intensity for "The Wait" and "Basic Solution". Led by pounding rhythms and grinding riffs, they are the very essence of uncompromising industrial techno. While it's just as pacy, "Returns" revolves around a rolling groove. Lauriola also shows his ability to venture down a more experimental path on the gnarly "Twang", where noisy sound scapes unravel over an offbeat rhythm. The title track is in a similar vein, with Lauriola dropping a dense groove that skews more towards the dance floor.

In My Darkness EP
In My Darkness - (5:13) 138 BPM
Titles - (4:24) 138 BPM Hot
Review: The latest release on Charlotte de Witte's label has a deep personal meaning. The Work of Inox Traxx, it is reflective of the producer's 'inner state' and was written in response to personal challenges. But to paraphrase the evergreen house classic, to address such issues, 'music is always the answer'. The title track is a case in point. Over lead-weight kicks, Inox Traxx delivers a beautifully mournful vocal - making for a deeply personalised but dance floor-primed track. "Close" is an intense affair. Centred on a throbbing bass and a swung rhythm, it features fragile vocals. "Titles" is more esoteric - on this occasion there are no vocals. Instead, Inox Traxx drops a pulsating, tranced out track that builds and ebbs continuously.

Hydraulic EP
Null - (5:10) 138 BPM
Imla - (5:12) 138 BPM
Review: On Hydraulic, Yan Cook goes down a more pacy route than usual. The title track sees the prolific producer drop the kind of tunnelling, hypnotic techno he is best known for, albeit at a faster pace. And on "Null", he drops an abrasive, searing rhythm peppered with insistent tones . "Imla" is the only track that differs from this overall approach. Focused on a rolling, metallic groove, it sees Cook layer in wave upon wave of hypnotic filters. It's only a temporary divergence though, and the Red Rooms version of "Imla" reverts to fast-paced approach, yielding a peak time tribal techno banger.

Review: Next up on Lewis Fautzi's label is Mesh Convergence aka Nahuel Rodriguez with a powerful dance floor EP. "Doctrine" is a high-paced but funky techno track. Led by powerful percussion and a rolling groove, it sounds like a modern update of late 90s tribal techno. On "Geroge's Code", Rodriguez goes down a minimal route. Led by swirling filters and relentless kicks, it teems with ferocity. Minimalism of a different persuasion comes into play on "Impure". Driven by an angular, robotic rhythm, it's a masterclass in repetition. "Unwritten" is less intense but just as effective - led by a murky bass and flickering sound scapes, it is sure to light up more discerning dance floors.

Review: UFO95 is the latest producer to land on Tresor - and Backward Improvement packs a powerful punch. "Fragment" is a robust, ebm-themed workout. Led by a pounding bass, it shoots shards of spiky percussion through the speakers. On "Gargk", he changes tact, dropping a frenetic break beat track led by atmospheric synths and warbling synths. "Solar" marks another shift in sound - over a punishing groove, UFO95 rains down coruscating riffs. "Cogitor" is also a bruising piece, but with a different approach as steely drums prevail. Meanwhile, "Sexual Tension" sees intense tones and a vocal sample unfold over a relentless groove - the kind of track that will have the desired impact on Tresor's main floor.
