The Reworks Vol 2
Boss - (4:37) 97 BPM
Be With U - (5:20) 99 BPM
Review: Long-serving producer Disco Tech has released more edits and reworks over the years than we've had hot dinners. Remarkably, he still continues to deliver on-point revisions - as this second volume in his ongoing 'Reworks' EP series proves. There's much to admire across the six tracks on show, from the atmospheric, slow-burn excellence of AOR disco revision 'Stars In The Ghetto' and the dub-funk wonder that is the James Brown-sampling 'Boss', to the peak-time '80s disco sing-along 'Take Time' and the on-point Clash dub disco revision 'Magnificent'. We also recommend 'Be With You', a deliciously groovy, dubbed-out take on a Doc Severinsen track that has long been a DJ Harvey favourite.

Dave vs SnakeEXCLUSIVE
Plissken Prologue (Raw mix) - (5:46) 90 BPM
Review: A bit of a curveball here from Mathmos as he explores slightly tuffer, darker styles than we're used to hearing from him. So it's testament to his production prowess that these four cuts work just as well, in their own way, as the groovier, more melodic sounds that are his usual stock-in-trade. 'My Name Is Snake' is a driving, mid-paced cut with techno overtones and chunks of dialogue from 'Escape To New York', 'Techno Duke' also (unsurprisingly) leans towards techno, while 'Street Inferno' drops the tempo and ventures into leftfield electronica territory. 'Plissken Prologue (Raw Mix)' then completes the EP by revisiting the title track's vocal samples in hallucinogenic, extended interlude form.

Played by: BAZZA RANKS
Review: This is the fourth volume in the series, so you should have the idea by now: Audaz boss Alkalino revisits his youth by taking on pop hits (mostly) from the late 70s and 80s, often reworking the most unlikely source material into dancefloor gold. This time out, though, he's cast his net a little wider, with sources including Jimmy Soul's 1963 calypso hit 'If You Wanna Be Happy', The Chordettes' 'Mr Sandman' from 1954 (an unexpected standout), Sixto Rodiquez's 'Sugar Man' from 1970 and Johnny Cash's 'I Walk The Line' from 1956, as well as the more par-for-the-course likes of The Clash's 'Guns Of Brixton', Stan Ridgway's 'Camouflage', M's 'Pop Muzik' and Paul Hardcastle's '19'.

Such Mistery - (7:45) 97 BPM
Review: With 17 tracks on offer there's no room here to list the source material for every track on this latest re-edits selection from the ever-busy Alkalino, even if we could identify them all - which we can't, because it's fair to say he's dug really deep here to find some gems. No guilty 80s pop pleasures here, just obscure disco, Italo and boogie nuggets expertly repolished to suit modern dancefloors, the arguable exception to that rule being an excellent take on the Detroit Emeralds' 1972 soul/funk classic "Baby Let You Take Me (In My Arms)", here reinvented as "Let Me Kiss You". Other highlights include the lazy, sensual "Feel The Music" and the dreamy jazz-fusion of "Ghetto Blues".

Me Gusta La Lasagna (Balearic mix) - (6:41) 92 BPM Hot
Me Gusta La Lasagna (Dubbosa mix) - (6:44) 92 BPM
Review: Australia-based Italian slo-mo don Dave Mathmos returns with a new single-track offering, albeit that one track is presented in two quite different mixes - both of which do pretty much exactly what they say on the tin. The Balearic Mix is a lilting, reggae/tropical-infused affair with a sing-song French vocal, fluttering Spanish guitars and, as we near the end, just a hint of bubblin' acid. The Dubbosa Mix, unsurprisingly, is a more dub-wise pass that brings the reggae backbeat to the fore and then gets a fair bit heavier and synthier over the top. One for the warm-up and one for the 5am gurners, then.

Rated X
Rated XEXCLUSIVE
Marvin - "Rated X" (V's All Over The World edit) - (5:31) 94 BPM
Review: A very fine quartet of deep disco re-edits here courtesy of Bulgarian producer V's Edits and his/her/their Vehicle label. First to get the treatment is Marvin Gaye's 'The World Is Rated X', which comes from 'You're The Man', an album that was recorded in 1972 but shelved in favour of 'Let's Get It On'. Convertion's 'Let's Do It', a Leroy Burgess production released on SAM Records in 1980, comes next, followed by an acid-flecked reinterpretation of Bob Marley's 'Could You Be Loved'. V's take on what is seemingly every re-editor's second favourite track after 'Josephine' - Banbarra's 1975 funk classic 'Shack Up' - completes the package.

Review: Katakana Edits first compilation, 2017's "Crate Diggin", was an epic collection of high-grade re-edits, mash-ups and reworks packed to the rafters with tried-and-tested dancefloor treats. This belated follow-up is even more epic, with the popular label squeezing in no less than 50 tracks that variously touch on riotous disco-funk, dub disco, new wave, disco-rock, deep funk, Afro-boogie, swamp funk, Latin beats, boogie, pitched-down chuggers, boogaloo, hip-hop and everything in between. You'd expect that standard to be high - it is a "best of" collection after all - and it is. If you need an instant armoury of scintillating club cuts, look no further.

G Niotis & J Pronoitis - "JB World" - (4:07) 90 BPM
Review: 62 collections deep and still blazing up any party in a 1000 mile radius; Katakana deliver yet another fun and funk-fuelled package. All laced with a heavy rhythmic theme, attention to groove detail is paid throughout as we're treated to range of classic and deeply dug edits. "Galaxy" sets the tone with a sleazy strutting war cry before we're hurled into a Latin frenzy on both the sultry "Camina" and the bull-fighting "Descarga". Elsewhere "Leroy Loves Ya" brings the soulful touch and "JB World" closes with a little psychedelic mystique.

Katakana Edits Vol 133
Boca - (5:30) 95 BPM Hot
Review: MBO's first contribution to the 'Katakana Edits' came on Vol 128 and now, just five instalments later, he's back with another brace of fresh reworks of vintage nuggets. What exactly those nuggets are will have to go sadly unidentified this time out, but 'Twilight' is an unhurried lounge-y, tropical kinda jam with some sprightly-fingered jazz keys and minor chords that recall Flash & The Pan's 'Waiting For A Train', while 'Boca' is even more laidback, with Balearic-style dusty, sampled drums, wistful flute, schmaltzy strings and, most importantly, some very cool, blues-y Hammond work. Perfect for groovin' on a sunny afternoon.

Review: The undisputed king of reggae versions, Mato returns with his sixth series of dubbed out hip-hop covers. Far from the crass, crude mash-up culture, Mato's original instrumentation ensures a much more natural remix feel which, in some cases, sounds better than the original. Across the 10 track set we're treated a bouncy, sun-kissed take on Eve's "Gangsta Lovin", a tight skank-flexed take on The Beatnuts "Off The Books", a Vadim-style contemporary digi dub take on Nate Dogg's "Good Life" and a very authentic rendition of "Still Dre". Essential listening for both hip-hop and reggae heads.

Revenge - (3:44) 95 BPM
Tutu - (2:59) 92 BPM
Review: El Paso has become quite the Katakana regular of late, having helmed vols 115, 116, 122 and 129, and now he returns for a fifth instalment with four funk reworks in tow. 'Ms Fine Brown' revisits Syl Johnson's 'Ms Fine Brown Fame' from 1976, while James Brown's much-sampled 1973 classic 'The Payback' becomes 'Revenge'. The sources for 'Baila' and 'Tutu' - both featuring Spanish-language vocals - will sadly have to go unidentified, but the former has a Nu Yorican, boogaloo/barrio funk kinda vibe about it while the lower-tempo 'Tutu' is much more tropical and lounge-y in feel.

Ray - "When You See Me In Misery" (V's View) - (4:40) 90 BPM
Review: Valique's V's Edits reworks have long been some of the most popular re-edits on this platform, with DJs responding not only to their floor-friendly nature but also the wide range of sounds and styles he turns his hand to. So, what's on offer this time around? Well, for starters Yellow Blues is raising money for victims of the war in Ukraine, a country to which Valique has family ties. As usual, it's a mixed bag of goodness, with highlights including a squelchy, TB0-303 speckled take on a Johnny Cash classic, the chugging nu-disco/swamp blues fusion of 'Was It Worth It?', a fine revision of Rodrigues classic 'You Can't Get Away', a housed-up tweak of an old Doors gem ('Learn To Forget') and a toe-tapping, club-ready revision of Kenny Rogers' sing-along 'Just Dropped In (to See What Condition My Conidtion is In)'.

Finti Cents - (3:38) 91 BPM
Review: Beatnik City is one of the chief exponents of the Northern Soul sound and its crate digging culture. Here they present what they dub "BarBeat", which is a good way to describe the non-purist approach of the edits featured - perfect fodder for bars rather than big room clubs. Perfect examples of this approach include "Finti Cents" where In Da Club gets taken back into time to a shimmying Motown backing groove or the 90s-hip-hop-goes-retro-big-beat vibes of "Jurassic Jive".

Will Bothers - "Lonely Town" (V's Dark Street edit) - (6:27) 98 BPM
Review: This impressively expansive collection from experienced remixer Valique showcases some of the best downtempo and Balearic edits from his popular V's Edits series. There's certainly plenty to get the blood pumping and the juices flowing throughout, from a chugging, ten-minute take on Pink Floyd ('Brickwall') and a pleasingly squelchy take on Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams' 'Lose Yourself To Dance' (here renamed 'Lose Your Elf'), to a chunky dub-house re-imagining of Jimmy Cliff classic 'The Harder They Come' and a loopy, hypnotic, mid-tempo disco-rock revision of T-Rex ('Jewelry'). Throw in party-hearty takes on cuts from Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson and the Beach Boys (an odd but impactful reimagining of 'Good Vibrations') and you have a great value compilation.

Review: Having previously plied his trade on Midnight Riot, Hot Digits and Hotbox Boogie, amongst others, Perth-based Casual Connections makes his debut for DiscoDat. Those familiar with his smooth, dubby and floor-friendly re-edits will feel right at home. Like fellow Aussie Rocco Raimiundo, Casual Connection is a master at looping and dubbing out forgotten '80s soul and electrofunk gems, giving them filter-heavy, house-friendly tweaks whilst retaining the essence of the original tracks. There's plenty to enjoy across the eight tracks featured here, from the re-imagined disco-funk shuffle of "Do Thangs" and horn-totin' throb of "Shake It", to the delay-laden boogie-dub antics of "Sugar" and string-drenched sweetness of "Do You Believe".

Katakana Edits Vol 122
Hong Kong - (3:19) 99 BPM
Review: This latest installment in the 'Katakana Edits' series draws pretty much entirely from global music, which makes trying to identify the source material nigh-on impossible! Still, there's a kind of 60s/70s lounge-y vibe to opener 'Besoka', augmented by wave sounds, while 'Hong Kong' is a more Mexican/Latin-sounding affair that'd be best served in the summer sunshine. The fluttering 'Kikiribu' again has a Latin feel, with a chanted vocal this time, while 'Tropical Sant' maintains a similar MO but has more of a hazy, psychedelic vibe about it. One for the more eclectic DJs that like to mix up different world rhythms.

Review: Audaz boss Alkalino has never been shy of wearing his pop-loving heart on his sleeve, and this latest collection of re-edits merely underlines the point, as he serves up fresh reworks of (mostly) 80s gems. The edits themselves range from 'token' to 'truly radical' and you'll have your own faves for sure, but sources include The Cure ('Let's Go To Bed'), New Order ('Temptation'), Visage ('Fade To Grey'), Dead Or Alive ('You Spin Me Round'), Nik Kershaw ('I Won't Let The Sun Go Down On Me'), Kate Bush ('Them Heavy People'), Talking Heads ('Seen And Not Seen'), Alphaville ('Big In Japan'), Jona Lewie ('You'll Always Find Me In The Kitchen At Parties') and, rewinding back into the 70s as the album draws to a close, David Bowie ('Starman').

Evil Smarty - "The Get Down" - (6:57) 98 BPM
Review: Serbia's Disco Fruit label offer digital buyers another high-VFM collection of tracks that were previously only available on wax, with the album's 31 cuts coming from just six artists including scene faves Tonbe and Loshmi and label regular Evil Smarty. Between them, they run the gamut from scorching, bottom-heavy funk (Evil Smarty's 'The Get Down', Dave Allison's 'Ain't Nuthin To It', Loshmi's 'Drugstore') to deep n' soulful house (Tonbe's 'Broken Heart'), via Gradient Logic's glacial boogie nouveau and jazzier cuts like Dave Allison's 'Trade Off' and Tonbe's 'Something Jazzy'. It's more one for the jazzbos and funkateers than outright disco dollies, admittedly, but on the whole that's probably a good thing...

Review: Never a dull moment on this eight-track, 10-mix collection from Sweden's Ture Sj?berg, AKA Beatconductor, which finds him in a re-edit/mash-up frenzy as he reworks a range of classic cuts in often highly unexpected style. Donna Summer's 'Love Is In Control' gets a 60s lounge jazz infusion on 'Finger On The Trigger', Beyonce's 'Crazy Is Love' is given a reggaefied makeover, Angie Stone goes head-to-head with the Steve Miller Band on 'Fly Like A Stone', and so it goes on. Along the way you'll find nods to Stevie Wonder and Tom Jones, before the album's completed by three different mixes of 'Good Vibes' - the Beach Boys if they'd formed in Kingston, JA rather than Hawthorne, CA!

The original versions will sadly have to go unidentified this time around, but suffice to say Da Funk is in full effect across all four tracks, kicking off with 'Kitty Kitty', a rolling trop-funk groove with breathy female vocal snips. 'Grande' follows and operates in similar territory but in slightly more lazy n' laidback - and 100% more instrumental - fashion while 'Revolution Solution' brings the militant Black Power soul vibes with its conscious male vocal, before finally 'I Got To Be Kissed' plays us with out with its full-lunged 60s-style female soul vox.

Review: The ever-prolific Beatconductor returns with another heaving fistful of re-edits, this time on an Italo-disco and Balearic tip (who would have guessed from the title, eh?). There are five tracks to pick from, ranging from slo-mo oddness (the rather fine "Elephant Walk") to well-known floorfillers (another, albeit solid, version of Italo classic "Spacer Woman"). Stuffed in between are a couple of rock-tinged funtime groovers - the pompous "Wild Living" and lazy Balearo-rock of "Hot Passion" - and the spiralling "Infectious Disease", a chugging Italo bomb that just bristles with synth frippery and vocoder silliness.

Swimwear EPEXCLUSIVE
Walked In The Room - (7:19) 98 BPM
Review: East Midlands producer Ant Plate (he of Rhythm Plate and YSE fame) dons his lesser-known YSE Saint Laur'ant moniker for a second outing on Whiskey Disco (his first dropped in 2012). As you'd expect from someone with a such a rich history of joining the dots between deep house and disco, the Swimwear EP delivers a quartet of breezy, positive cuts that should suit DJs in both styles. There's some smooth, soul-flecked grooves in the shape of "Never Be", a brilliantly wide-eyed slo-mo chugger ("Forever Mind", complete with classic AOR vocal samples), a thrilling exercise in low-slung disco house dirtiness ("Bozwa Locks") and an hypnotic, slowly unfurling chunk of dreamy deepness with quirky blue-eyed soul samples ("Walked in the Room").
