C'mon Let's Fly - (6:06) 123 BPM
Review: Shabi's DOBRO jams continue with Happy Jams that are undeniably exactly that, much what these times need. Pushing a classic house tip with good vibes pads, sample selections, loops and tricks, Shabi gets '90s old school and French touch in his kicking title track. "Let's Talk Dancin'" offers some similar tricks, holding down a groove with a vocal hook to boot, while "I Feel It Comin'" does something some more soul and R&B. "Disco Party" throws down some classic percussion and a walking bassline while "C'mon Let's Fly" may as well be Fred Falke back in the mix. French house style!

Right Place / Need You (Unclepasha Remixes)
Right Place (Unclepasha remix) - (5:32) 117 BPM
Need You (Unclepasha remix) - (5:57) 118 BPM Hot
Review: Two recent cuts from Russian disco don Alexander Chebankov, better known as Sunner Soul, get handed over to fellow St Petersburg native Unclepasha - whose musical CV dates back to the early 00s - for the remix treatment. His take on 'Right Place', which first appeared on last month's 'Something Good' EP, tones down the boogie and jazz-funk influences of the original and ends up deeper and smoother as a result. Conversely, he's kept the boogie stylings of 'Need You' (taken from February's 'Da Funk' EP) intact and arguably even emphasised them, in a dubbed-out remix that gets distinctly Levan/Peech Boys-esque in places.

Submerge Me (BSBF bonus drum tool) - (3:35) 117 BPM
Review: Belgian producer Gratts teams up with Eleanor 'Mr' Beale on a laidback release that sits somewhere between deep house, Balearica, nu-jazz and trip-hop. Gently lolloping hand percussion with an Afro feel sets the pace from the outset, with Beale's jazzual vocal only emerging around the 1:20 mark. Add some lingering chords and you've got a track that wouldn't have sounded out of place on a mid-90s 'Rebirth Of The Cool' compilation. An accompanying remix from French stalwart Gilb'r pushes the track more firmly towards jazz-house, while the package is completed by a self-explanatory Bonus Drum Tool.

Review: Baby Ford and Dazmos took the limelight on this first release on Nice 1, now released digitally for the first time. We Are Syd's original "Gently" is a mellow downtempo roller featuring choice vocals from Shea Seger, but it's the remixes here that get pride of place. Ford and Dazmos lock into an understated drum machine funk draped in hazy pads on their Backroom Mix, while on their Frontroom mix they push the club elements to the forefront, riding the rhythm section with intent while still retaining the smoky spirit of the original to create with an impeccable club cut that should nestle comfortably into the bags of all deep digging house heads.

Review: In a world awash with endless re-edits from the "stick a 4/4 kick under it and go to the pub" school of thought, it's always nice to come across a producer who takes a slightly more original and inventive approach to plundering the back catalogues of others. Step up Stockholm native Ture Sjöberg, AKA Beatconductor, who here delivers an album-length EP packed with re-edits and mash-ups that do just that. Putting Adele's 'Rolling In The Deep' vocal on top of chunks of Survivor's 'Eye Of The Tiger', for instance, really shouldn't work on paper, but when coming out of your speakers it most certainly does! Elsewhere you'll hear bits of The Eurythmics (several times), Sister Sledge, Earth Wind & Fire, Yazoo, The O'Jays, Mariah Carey, Christopher Cross, Post Malone and more, all shaken AND stirred into something new and interesting... worth checking for sure.

Review: With 17 tracks on offer there's no room here to list the source material for every track on this latest re-edits selection from the ever-busy Alkalino, even if we could identify them all - which we can't, because it's fair to say he's dug really deep here to find some gems. No guilty 80s pop pleasures here, just obscure disco, Italo and boogie nuggets expertly repolished to suit modern dancefloors, the arguable exception to that rule being an excellent take on the Detroit Emeralds' 1972 soul/funk classic "Baby Let You Take Me (In My Arms)", here reinvented as "Let Me Kiss You". Other highlights include the lazy, sensual "Feel The Music" and the dreamy jazz-fusion of "Ghetto Blues".

Review: Lino Rodrigues, better known as re-editor extraordinaire Alkalino, takes us on another trip down Memory Lane to the 1980s. Coming under the scalpel for a spot of cosmetic surgery this time out are (in order) Prince's 'Gett Off', Laura Branigan's 'Self Control', Oran 'Juice' Jones's 'The Rain', Madonna's 'Everybody', Marillion's 'Kayleigh', AR Kane's 'A Love From Outer Space', Prefab Sprout's 'When Love Breaks Down' and Kajagoogoo's 'Too Shy'. It's an eclectic selection for sure, and which tracks hit hardest for you will probably depend on how you feel about the originals, but give all of 'em a whirl because some of the reworks are quite radical in approach. And yes, we known 'Gett Off' is from 1991 but let's not get pedantic, eh?

Review: This impressively expansive collection from experienced remixer Valique showcases some of the best downtempo and Balearic edits from his popular V's Edits series. There's certainly plenty to get the blood pumping and the juices flowing throughout, from a chugging, ten-minute take on Pink Floyd ('Brickwall') and a pleasingly squelchy take on Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams' 'Lose Yourself To Dance' (here renamed 'Lose Your Elf'), to a chunky dub-house re-imagining of Jimmy Cliff classic 'The Harder They Come' and a loopy, hypnotic, mid-tempo disco-rock revision of T-Rex ('Jewelry'). Throw in party-hearty takes on cuts from Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson and the Beach Boys (an odd but impactful reimagining of 'Good Vibrations') and you have a great value compilation.

Review: As the title makes clear, experienced re-editor and remixer Alkalino's latest outing - an expansive seven-track affair - features some of his hush-hush reworks of a wealth of well-known tracks. There's plenty of guaranteed floor-filling material on show throughout, including a slightly pitched-down, Clavinet-sporting rework of New Order's most celebrated dancefloor anthem ('Tell Me How Do I Feel'), a trippy and druggy take on an old KLF favourite ('Mu Mu'), a sub-heavy excursion that blends bits of various classic cuts ('I Know You Wanna Do It'), a low-slung deep house treat ('Ruff N Stuff') and a dark, deliciously bass-heavy peak-time workout ('Jack Area').

Review: What better way to celebrate a decade in business than by getting Chicago deep house legend Larry Heard to select and mix a double-disc compilation of label highlights? Hats off, then, to Rebirth, who managed to persuade Mr Fingers himself to deliver his first commercially available DJ mix. As you'd expect from both label and DJ, it's a wonderfully atmospheric and melodious affair, with Heard selecting and blending emotion-rich tracks and mixes from Chromatic Filters, Bocca Grande, NuFrequency, Tevo Howard, Motor City Drum Ensemble and James Teej. The first disc, in which Heard races through 28 tracks in just over 70 minutes, is particularly memorable.

Review: The way Audaz has been churning out these Lolita collections lately, you'd think "possession of an unreleased re-edit" had just been made a crime under German law! But the quality standard shows no sign of slipping, so that's hardly cause for complaint. Standouts of this fourth volume include '038', which revisits Kim And Rasa's obscure 1982 Ghanaian funk/rap jam 'Love Me For Real', '035' with its fusion of country rock guitar and sweet female disco vox, and '037', which reworks Brass Construction's 'Changin' from 1975. Dead Or Alive get the Lolita treament, too, on '032'.

Review: Following on from releases for Pomelo and PAL SL, LD Nero makes a welcome return to Trelik, the label that unveiled the project back in 2011. Detroit house flavours lace "Als Ik Kan", as a bleepy synth loudly sounds on the off beat over short stabby chords and shuffling drums. A summery, Rhode uplifting house track awaits in "The Feel" while a loose "I'm Burning" almost sounds like LD Nero has each of the tracks elements placed on a separate turntable; making sure to keep them beat matched and aligned.

Let Me Love You Tonight - (7:20) 114 BPM
Played by: Juno Download
Review: Kariya's "Let Me Love You For Tonight" is a freestyle classic from 1988 which received a massive remix by Electronic Youth a little while back. You can now add Casa Blanco's version to the list which retains all the neon-lit qualities of the original, yet reshaped for modern dancefloors. The track originally appeared on her debut, non-album single on Sleeping Bag Records. It was written by and produced by Bob and Jerry Ferrer. After this, Kariya disappeared into obscurity.

Review: While there's no doubt that Ture Sjoberg has released some good records under the Beatfanatic guise, his best work has often been done under the Beatconductor pseudonym. Here he resurrects the name for a five-track stroll through some of his most successful recent re-edits and reworks in a Scando-learic style. So, we get a shorter version of his legendary Vangelis re-jig ("Let It Happen"), a smooth Roxy Music tweak ("Turn U On Again"), a longer edit of White Isle fave "Willow Man" and a seriously dubbed-out extension of old skool electro/cosmic disco groover "Le Club". Oh, and a super-Balearic remake of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick In The Wall".

Review: Scalpel-wielding rework maestro V (the artist formerly known as funk-breaks sort Valique) has been more prolific than usual this year, with the numerous pandemic lockdowns and rules allowing him more time at home working on his popular cut-jobs. As a result, his latest annual 'best of' collection is packed to the rafters with tasty treats. There's plenty of variety too, with the long-serving editor leaping between guitar-heavy workouts ('B-Ware', Deep Purple tweak 'Hush'), weighty '80s synth-pop (Billy Idol re-rub 'White Wed'), beefed-up krautrock (the cowbell-laden heaviness of 'Vitamin D', a tweak of one of Can's most popular tunes), glassy-eyed disco (the Clavinet-heavy 'Little Love') and sleazy, pitched-down glam-rock ('Jewelry').

Review: Och has been a regular fixture on Baby Ford's Trelik label in recent years, and he returns with the late night delights of the Love Unconditional EP sounding stronger than ever. "Sunday Love" is a warm and cosy bumper, keeping the keys bright and breezy while the beat skips away dutifully before the more heads down thrust of "More Journeys Into Swing". The real star of the show though is "Love Unconditional", a particularly gripping track that unfurls seductive synth licks and vocal licks on a trip to nocturnal body jam perfection.

Review: Baby Ford and Zip need little introduction and debut on Trelik as "BFZ" featuring co-conspiritor Thomas Melchior. The trio originally appeared on the 1999 "Perlondon" 12" for Perlon with Ford and Zip re-uniting for the "Glidin' Along The Riverbed" release then 2010's "Clean Hands" on PAL SL. Thomas Melchior recently appearing on [a:rpia:r] and his own Aspect Music kicks off the 12" with a floor friendly up-beat 9 minute "Melchior Productions LTD" edit remix of "Uff". An "Uffapella" closes the A-side featuring abstract sound design and textured vocals. Side-B's "So They Say" creates a feeling of space and unhurried rhythmatics whilst the title track "Uff" combines deep instrumentals, chord and haunting vox with subtle bass and modulating kick. Recorded in London and Berlin. Mastered at D & M.

Review: Having already treated us to a trio of samplers, the German deep house duo Session Victim finally deliver their debut full-length for Delusions of Grandeur. Given their impressive credentials, it's no surprise to find that The Haunted House Of House is a bit good. Almost overflowing with ideas, it serves up 11 slabs of deep house that do their best to sidestep the genre's many pitfalls. Sure, there's plenty of comfy, melodic goodness (see "Push Comes To Shove" and "Zoinks"), but also forays into disco-flecked jazz-funk-house ("Alpine Glow"), slick disco-house ("The Haunted House"), groovy slo-mo electronica ("Bilson"), dewy-eyed Balearica ("The Light Scent of Decay") and even Clyde-ish broken hip-hop ("Fine"). Impeccable, and this ultra special Juno edition includes an exclusive bonus track in the shape of "Spellbound"!

The Beast & Forty Deuce
The Beast - (7:12) 122 BPM Hot
Forty Deuce - (4:59) 125 BPM
Review: In their typically minimal press release for this two-track salvo, In Flagranti simply describes the EP's content as "edit/rework/party tunes". It's an apt description. Lead cut "Beast" delivers a deliciously saucer-eyed trip into vintage Chicagoan deep house territory, cutting up what sounds like a classic Mr Fingers production and layering it with nagging vocal samples, additional electronics and hypnotic, locked-in beats (admittedly with some additional crashing cymbals as the track progresses). "Forty Deuce", on the other hand, is an altogether more celebratory affair, brilliantly looping and chopping a long forgotten AOR disco gem. Think Tiger & Woods builds and blue-eyed soul vocals, and you're close.

Review: It's Joropo dances all round as acclaimed Venezuelan producer Trujillo finally follows up 2012's hugely popular Acapulco Gold with 'Believe In Luv". With a sleeve like this he's already made believers of most of us, but he doesn't stop there; the title track is a seductive electro-houser with gentle chords, ascending guitar licks and soulful male & female vocals - in other words, the music of love. The smoochy vibes continue on his blissed-out, reggae-lite swirly version of Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing". Hot!

Review: Roots For Bloom SHAG Edits series returns with volume 3. M.James brings us a track that will catch any music lovers ear. With the crisp percussion, delicate guitar riffs, a bassline that keeps evolving throughout and that vocal, this one ticks all the boxes. On the flip label boss Jamie Trench maintains the general feel for the record. This one focusing on a simpler yet just as effective bassline and obviously being heavily reliant on the sample being in the shag edits series. If you're looking for that record that stands out from the rest, this is the weapon you need.

Review: A first outing on Bahnsteig 23 from Alexander Pletnev, a producer best known for his exploits under the Ponty Mython alias. As with all of the label's previous releases, the EP blurs the boundaries between sneaky reworks of unusual, obscure, post-punk era material and original production. For example, on opener "Duga", Pletnev underpins what sounds like a skewed Turkish dub disco number with a bold new bassline and tidy house beats, before doing the same with the early New Order style trip that is "Wind On Skin". Elsewhere, "Manlakshee Fontah" is an exceedingly atmospheric drift through dub-wise bass and exotic Middle Eastern flute lines, while closer "Mamauntano" is frankly bonkers - a trippy chunk of experimental '80s electro/post-punk fusion full of chanted vocals and metallic percussion hits.

Review: This release is the first from Ellum Audio's sneaky, under the counter offshoot dedicated to in-demand house reworks and re-edits of lesser-known gems. There's little other information - not least on who did them, though a smart guess would be Maceo Plex and Alta (it's their label, after all). "In Excess", which bits an old favourite, offers a swinging, classic electro-influenced chunk of touchy-feely Balearic house. As the title suggests, "Mode One" offers a fuzzy, psychedelic and wholeheartedly intoxicating take on an old Depeche Mode cut. "Mode Two" does the same, offering a Carl Finlow-ish swing to the drums and more space in the mix.

Review: Frankfurt's Rajko Muller has been responsible for some timeless dancefloor moments as Isolee since his emergence on the iconic Playhouse in 1996, chief among them the iconic "Beau Mot Plage". Having resurfaced earlier this year with that 3 track drop for Koze's Pampa label, Isolee delivers another contemporary contender for his canon of personal classics with this release for Ripperton's Tamed Musiq. "Dennis" is filled with all the warmth and production intricacies one comes to expect from an Isolee production and is complemented by tweaks from Ripperton himself and Berlin artist Baikal.. The former's self styled 'Eight Wheels dub' adds a lot more percussive groove to the mix whilst Baikal opts for a hypnotic rework that's all about the labyrinthine bassline.

Review: If you're looking for a bit of variety and a high quality threshold, this EP from the ever-reliable Legendary 1979 Orchestra should be right up your alley. Contrast, for example, the liquid, Afro-tinged deep house smoothness of "Gets Deep", with the slap bass-propelled deep disco of "Amsterdam Zest", or the rubbery Balearic-meets-electrofunk-meets-deep house groove of "Love is Everywhere". Best of all, though, is the Juno exclusive track "Big Man Dub", a delay-laden, organ-sporting chunk of bounciness that boasts a terrific vocal breakdown, subtle synth-strings and some decidedly bold synth riffs. Like the rest of the EP, it's perfectly pitched.

Review: Moscow's Vehicle now presents more deep house, nu-disco and of course a few of their reknown V edits on the Intercity Remixes here. Miles Ahead's "Human Nation" (V's Parisian mix) is a jazzy soul jam with quite a few familiar sounds from a certain timeless classic. "Human Nature" (V's Nuyorika mix) however is much funkier, deeper and absolutely emotive. Elsewhere, The Thoors' "Love Her Badly" (V's L.A. to New Orleans mix) does exactly what it says on the tin with this cheeky rework of a right anthem until Rocking Blues' "My Desire" (V's Moscow To Tokyo mix) closes out this fine little EP out in good and proper style with those hands in the air pianos, jazz drums and bongos all working in perfect harmony.

Hey Sucker (Alkalino remix) - (7:24) 115 BPM Hot
Review: Every so often, somebody comes along with a genius-like idea and turns some dusty gem into dancefloor gold. That's arguably the case with "Hey Sucker", a sneaky re-edit/rework of bizarre German '80s popsters Hong Kong Syndikat. The band specialized in making the sort of eccentric, off-kilter fare that could be described as 'Balearic', so it's fitting that it's their most wide-eyed moment - 1984 album track "Samba Olec" - getting the scalpel treatment. The virtual A-side sticks closely to the original, cutting, slicing and pasting in all the right places. It's the B-side - a jaunty but surprisingly subtle house re-imagining - that probably has more potential for crossover her success. Silly, but refreshingly so.

Review: This latest installment in Audaz's 'Lolita' re-edit series opens with the Soul II Soul-biting '101', and also reworks cuts from reggae legend Little Roy (his take on Nirvana's 'Come As You Are' provides the basis for '107'), electro pioneers Freestyle (1985's 'Don't Stop The Rock' becomes '108') and 70s soul outfit The Moments ('110' revisits 1974 jam 'Girls'). The source material for most of the rest of the EP has us beat, but this time out it's mostly actual soul, funk and disco tracks that have come in for re-editing (rather than rock or pop classics), which means that while that fuzzy warm feeling that comes with the familiar may be in short supply, dancefloor appeal certainly isn't!
