Love Box
Love Box - (6:52) 121 BPM
Review: London producers Ryan Ellis and Lewis Wright have garnered solid support for their previous EPs "Welcome To The Jungle" and "Street Knowledge" from the likes of Maya Jane Coles and Jamie Jones, and with new single "Love Box", they're owed a lot more love from fans of deep, affecting and jacking house. With a stripped down and slightly grimey sheen, and at an easy 120-ish bpm, the pair craft a classic house moment via some cut-up vocals and crafty reverb work. Highly recommended stuff.

Au Seve
Au Seve - (6:33) 124 BPM Hot
Review: Broadwalk Records, the new label from Bristol house producer Julio Bashmore launches in fine style with the eminently classy Au Seve. Young Bashmore has an obvious talent for productions dripping in hooky qualities (see his still slay em jam "Battle For Middle You" as well as production credits for "Youth Soul" icon Jessie Ware) and "Au Seve" totally belongs in this canon, slipping carnival ready melodic touches and simple vocal loops over a dusted house mainframe dominated by rasping kicks and a killer rising bass line.

Watergate 10 (DJ mix)
Marco Resmann / Various
Watergate 10 (continuous DJ mix by Marco Resmann) - (1:18:57) 123 BPM
Review: With productions as Phase and Luna City Express to his credit and as a former member of Pan Pot, Berlin's Marco Resmann was one of the key figures making music during the minimal explosion. Can he also cut it behind the decks? On the evidence of Watergate 10, the answer is yes. Like all the best minimal DJs, he has a knack of splicing up stripped back, quirky grooves with warm, soulful house. Keeping the mix busy throughout, Resmann moves from the warm rhythms of Soul Phiction and Ricardo Villalobos's classic "808 The Bass Queen" into the smacked out minimal of Heartz 4's "Intimacy Girl" through the androgynous vocals of Digitaline's "Say So" to Andre Lodemann's US influences and Roman Flugel's psychedelic take on Darabi.

Timeless (DJ mix)
Lawrence / Various
Timeless (continuous DJ mix) - (1:13:13) 123 BPM
Review: Hamburg house producer Lawrence has never made a secret of his influences and on this, his first commercially available mix, he manages to seamlessly unite them. Melchior, Baby Ford and Soul Capsule represent quirky, seductive minimal house, while playfulness mixed with experimentation is audible on Isolee and Roman Flugel's contributions. Lawrence lays bare his love of US house too, with Delano Smith's funk-influenced "My Life" featuring, as does the classic "Forever Monna" by Damier, Trent & Pullen, its soft-focus melodies emerging gradually from Melchior's "Zuknft". Deep, Detroit techno is also on offer too courtesy of Robert Hood and Aril Brikha, and Lawrence also pays tribute to the gentle melodies of 90s 'intelligent techno', ending this sublime mix with Plaid's "Ol".

Get Away
Get Away (Subb-An deeper remix) - (7:43) 124 BPM Hot
Review: Having first appeared in its original form earlier in the year, Maya-Jane Coles' deep and bumpin' "Get Away" single gets reinvented by occasional Crosstown Rebel Subb-An. He predictably goes deeper and dubbier, switching between rock solid grooves and short, vocal-laden breakdowns before introducing a sublime, rush inducing extended breakdown. When that's amply tingled spines, he then reintroduces the dubby deep house groove for a heads-down trot to the finish line.

Undone
Undone (Dave Lee's Disco Blend) - (6:27) 120 BPM
Review: Based in sunny Los Angeles, Raquel Rodriguez is a Mexican-American soul/R&B singer who lists the likes of Prince, Chaka Khan and Michael Jackson as influences. 'Undone' first appeared on her 2021 long-player 'Sweet Side', and now along comes UK disco legend Dave Lee to give it a makeover for more house-oriented floors. It's a task he pulls off with considerable aplomb, of course - there's literally no one better for the job - but ultimately he's only polishing a diamond... the real magic here lies in Ms Rodriquez's smooth, jazzy vocal delivery. A summer anthem on the soulful floors - file under 'unmissable'.

Sounds In The Air
Sounds In The Air (Soul Purpose remix) - (6:44) 126 BPM
Played by: Andreas Saag
Review: Here's a little digital bonus for long-time followers of Dave "multiple pseudonyms" Lee - a long-lost rework of 2002 Z Factor single "Sounds In The Air". The remix itself comes from Soul Purpose, a long-forgotten alternative moniker for Peace Division men Clive Henry and Justin Drake. It's a pretty tasty rework, too, coming on like a cross between skippy UK garage, bassy UK house and the sort of jaunty, funky club fodder that Lee is famous for. The original vocal is used sparingly, allowing the duo to make room for hip-shaking beats and some gargantuan sub-bass stabs. Like vintage funky house, only better.

Got To Believe
Got To Believe - (7:16) 121 BPM Hot
Review: If you've been paying close attention to DJ charts over the last couple of months, there's a strong chance you'll have come across this rush-inducing chunk of classic house revivalism from Brooklyn's Jacques Renault. Already a hit on the back of a limited, single-sided white label release, "Got To Believe" brilliantly stitches together elements from various classic - and lesser-known - late '80s and early '90s house anthems. Think familiar stabs, intoxicating female vocal samples, and New York house pianos. What really makes the track, though, is the way that it flits between two contrasting beat patterns; a hip-house style 120 BPM breakbeat and a Victor Simonelli-ish undulsating basement house groove. It's simple, but devastatingly effective: guaranteed floorfiller.

Records & Culture
Records & Culture - (8:29) 117 BPM Hot
Review: The last time We Play House put out a "V.I.P" was the limited-edition vinyl release, FCL's now infamous cover of E.S.P's "It's You". It ended up becoming one of the most in-demand records on Discogs, and was subsequently snapped-up for a digital release by Defected. This time round, the Belgian label have decided to do things differently, giving away 250 vinyl copies of Kiani & His Legion's warm, melodic and quietly anthemic "Records & Culture", and handling digital themselves. While nowhere near as "big" as its predecessor, there's a pleasing simplicity to Genk boy Thomas Neyens' effort, which unfurls gloriously chiming melodies across eight smile-inducing minutes.

Ill Be Waiting - (5:52) 123 BPM
Review: Having previously appeared on Nu Wave's first compilation, Tom Bull and Official Nancie's "I'll Be Waiting" receives its own release as a one-track single. Deckstar and Steve Brooke's label has given us many gems in the short time it's been active, but this is certainly one of the best tunes so far. A silky deep house groove is caught in a midst of gorgeous low-end, and of course, Offical Nancie's seductive vocals. A hazy, burner to bring the summer vibes!

Conjure Superstar - (7:40) 123 BPM
Review: When the hitters are as big as Maceo Plex and Kompakt, there's no need for trite B side distractions and so this single-sided release comes forth with exactly the kind of anthemic, pop-straddling tech house that you would expect from such a combination. There may be edgy arpeggios and chunky drums powering the rhythm of the track, but with the straining emotional vocal and romantic pad sweeps, this is a track to garner appeal across the board, and not at the expense of the impact this will have in a club. It won't take long to learn the words, so before the summer is out you can expect plenty of people to be cooing along dreamily to this bright and bold belter.

This Kinda Love
This Kinda Love - (7:27) 122 BPM
Review: Strengthening their position as leaders of a new generation of house producers, Prince Club have been seeking inspiration from the roots of dance music and giving it a fresh club twist for a new audience. With its uplifting vibe and blissy vocals "This Kinda Love" has a hidden dark side that comes in the form of a huge rumbling bassline taking the proceedings right back to the speed garage era circa '96. This is one for dark and sweaty dancefloors up and down the kingdom, but don't be surprised if it becomes the soundtrack to your Balearic summer hols too. Get it first, here, now.

Move On Out
Move On Out - (6:19) 122 BPM
Review: Bontan is described by Toolroom's enthusiastic press release as an "underground sensation". While this may be a bold claim, he's already produced a string of chart-bothering remixes supported by the likes of Pete Tong, Carl Cox and Hot Since 82 and is clearly a producer on the rise. Certainly, "Move On Out" - his debut single proper - is a bit of a banger. Lacing cut-up vocals and nagging hooks over a thunderous rhythm and gargantuan analogue bassline, it sounds like an anthem in the making. You can expect to hear it loads over coming months, and with good reason.

Want U
Want U - (5:46) 123 BPM
Review: Impressively, 20 year-old Josh "Morrt" Mortimer had only been producing for a few short months when Radio 1 picked up on one of his tracks. He made his debut proper earlier this year with "Be There", a strobelight-friendly chunk of US garage-influenced UK house on Bambussa Records. Here he follows it up with "Want U", a similarly late night-friendly chunk of UK house/US garage fusion. Cut-up female vocal samples and nagging organ loops ride a groove that's simultaneously bouncy and robust (thanks, in no small part, to a superb bassline). It rises and falls in all the right places, with a couple of well-placed builds and drops adding energy to proceedings. It's not offering anything new, but nevertheless sounds like an anthem in the making.

Mandela - (4:18) 120 BPM
Review: While Nelson Mandela's passing is a time for mourning, it's also time of celebration, and that's what this Mandela EP by Mo Laidi and Sun Jun have set out to achieve. A warm, sinewave-driven bassline soothingly warbles under vocodered vocals and a choral of singers praising the former ANC leader's name, while baile funk snares and African percussion snap in syncopated time alongside high-pitched, futuristic synths.

1 More Night (Original Mix) - (4:51) 129 BPM
Review: Skanky - the pseudonym of choice for young Londoner Louis Johnson - could be onto a good thing with debut single "One More Night", certainly if the plethora of positive comments on Cool Kid Music's Soundcloud page are anything to go by. Blessed with a decidedly old skool feel - think a big sampled vocal hook, early '90s pianos, big strings and skippy, garage-influenced beats - "One More Night" has all the makings of a big dancefloor hit. It doesn't do anything particularly new, but Shanky's commitment to getting that early '90s sound just right is impressive. Expect to hear it a lot in coming months.

No Honey
No Honey - (6:26) 123 BPM
Review: With some 13 years experience behind them and notable hits for Defected, Soulfuric Deep, Look at You Records and Celebrity Records to their name, it would be fair to say that British house duo Audiowhores are "big in the game". Here they make their first appearance on Mark Knight's popular Toolroom imprint with "No Honey", a deep, attractive and woozy house cut that benefits greatly from a classic soulful vocal sample and a rubbery synth bassline. While heavily electronic and suitable for big rooms, "No Honey" is surprisingly sweet - all twirling chords, tactile pianos and old skool percussion hits. It has the feel of a big summer record in waiting.

Glassbeadgames
Glassbeadgames (8 hours at fabric dub) - (8:01) 123 BPM Hot
Review: In the build up to his new album, Martyn drops a single with a little help from Four Tet, zooming in on their joint venture "Glassbeadgames" to deliver a long form mix of the track for greater club consumption. This particular "8 Hours At Fabric Dub" features the same rattling off-beat snare, while the synths seem more subdued and spartan, while the looping vocal hook takes longer to swirl out of the mix. There's ample running time for the track to wake up, and so it does in the later stages with more of that effervescent musical goodness as you would expect from such a pairing of producers.

Let Me
Let Me - (7:14) 123 BPM
Review: It's been some 12 years since Rene Amesz dropped his debut single on X-Sub. Since then, he's become one of Holland's most trusted sources of bouncy big room house, developing a trademark style that perfectly blends techno and electro house with deeper elements. In many ways, "Let Me" is classic Amesz. There are relatively few melodic elements, but these only serve to highlight the chunkiness of his grooves. The track builds brilliantly, dropping into a breakdown halfway through the introduces two killer elements - namely a big piano riff and a (re-sung) classic house vocal sample. From this point onwards, dancefloor carnage is guaranteed. It is, then, another mammoth record from Toolroom.

Hip Hop (Melbourne Syndicate remix) - (4:18) 128 BPM
Review: Royal Dynamic - AKA Melbourne-based twosome Minus 1 and Brother John - describe their "anything goes", party-starting sound as a mash-up of "hip-hop, urban, R&B, dubstep, dance and electro". In other words, it's a kind of urban-centric Aussie take on the Ed Banger sound, with a few less arched eyebrows. Here, their gargantuan "Hip Hop" single gets a serious going over from Melbourne Syndicate, who turn it into a grizzled chunk of gnarly, acid-flecked electro-house bounciness, complete with sweary shout outs from Mr X and more pounding low-end than you can shake a bejewelled fist at. Big.

Pipe Bomb
Pipe Bomb - (7:12) 117 BPM
Review: In some ways, this is a rather curious release by Sound Signature standards. Instead of the label's usual muddy deep house and jazz-flecked oddities, "Pipe Bomb" sounds like an intense fusion of booming techno, classic Yorkshire bleep 'n' bass, dirty acid and early Orbital. With, it should be noted, the sort of loose, jazz influenced percussion touches that mark out much Detroit dance music. The whole thing is creepy and otherworldly, but strangely also rather attractive in a smacked-out paranoia kind of way. It would have been interesting to hear some alternate versions or remixes, but you can't fault Specter's intoxicating orginal for offbeat thrills.

No Stunts (edit) - (10:06) 131 BPM Hot
Review: Second time around for Pelon's long-forgotten dub techno classic, which first slipped out on Chain Reaction way back in 1996. The version chosen for this Running Back re-issue actually comes from a label compilation from 1998, but it varies very little from the original vinyl version. Now remastered, it comes on like a housier take on classic Basic Channel - it's simple, delay and reverb-laden elements (relentless, rolling synths, one-note dub bass and solid kick drums) sparring constantly with occasional 909 snares and hissing hi-hats. It's long, hypnotic and other-wordly - and very, very good. If you missed out first time around, don't sleep.

Breaking Dub (original mix) - (5:32) 122 BPM
Review: Having released a debut album in 2017 via the GAMM label, Riddim Research Lab reveals itself again as some kind of enigmatic dub tribe with a curveball release finding its way to Swedish label Local Talk. This we can assume comes through Berlin duo Kyodai - who have collaborated with the likes of Basic Soul Unit, Mule Musiq, Freerange and Local Talk before. Together the pair deliver a largely instrumental number, strummed and dubbed out by warmer reggae vibes, a touch of disco and that tropicana flavour oozing from those sweet splashes of space echo and guitar. Get yer dubs, Local Talk.

Ride The Storm (Saison remix) - (7:18) 123 BPM
Review: Unbelievably, this much-sampled classic will be 20 years old next year. No doubt there'll be more new mixes on the way then, but in the meantime there's this very serviceable refix from deep house men-of-the-moment Saison. The London duo wisely leave those very familiar sweeping, string-like pads and Ms Clifford's spoken vocal to retain centre stage and concentrate their efforts on the bottom end, supplying a bassline and tough-but-muted drums to make the track more easily programmable for a new generation of DJs...some of whom won't even have been born when it was first released, but let's not dwell on that!

Riding High
Riding High - (6:44) 120 BPM
Review: Mexican maestro Joseph Terruel enjoyed a relatively successful 2020, with his numerous releases on Deep Sense and Paraiso Musique all coming under the 'must check' category. His first outing of 2021 showcases a single track, 'Riding High', but it's another good one. Chunky, thickset and hypnotic, it sees him wrap swirling synths, filtered samples and well-chosen disco snippets around a rubbery bassline and bustling beats. It's basically a loopy disco-house box jam, but its expert construction - it just does what it needs to at exactly the right times - makes 'Riding High' a sure-fire dancefloor winner. To be honest, we'd expect nothing less from Terruel.

You can now add Casa Blanco's version to the list which retains all the neon-lit qualities of the original, yet reshaped for modern dancefloors. After another season on the White Isle, they're back in Blighty and aiming to restart their production career. "Sunny & Share" - their first single for Paul Arnold's Fat! Review: Here's something to celebrate: a surprise collaboration between R&S regular Lone - a producer now best known for the colourful feel or his shimmering, retro-futurist workouts - and sometime Shall Not Fade and Unknown To The Unknown contributor Kettama (real name Evan Campbell). "The Way That You Feel" genuinely fuses the best of both producer's styles, with kaleidoscopic, neon-lit synth stabs and bubbly, eyes-closed electronic lead lines riding a busy bassline and 130 BPM techno drums that seem to fizz as much as they bang. The results are not only undeniably heavy, but also insatiably ear-pleasing.

Review: This is what you'd call smart and sassy. Sat somewhere between intelligent deep house and contemporary tech house, this latest single from Leisuregroove and Rustem Rustem's Electronic Youth outfit features smooth lead vocals from veteran British R&B singer Kele Le Roc. Her vocals fit snugly with a retro-futurist groove that evokes memories of dancing like crazy to bleep-heavy US house cuts, sometime in the late 1990s. Review: It would be fair to say that both of Denis Sulta's EP singles on Dixon Avenue Basement Jams are "in-demand". It's likely that this first outing on Numbers - a single-track salvo - will go the same way. It's typically of his analogue-rich, retro-futurist sound, with starry, Detroit-influenced synth lines and intergalactic melodies riding a virtual wave of drum machine hits and skittish cymbals. Tranquilo - (9:54) 120 BPM
Review: Publicity-shy Mexican producer Joseph Terruel - his online presence could teach those Romanians a thing or two about minimalism! - returns to Paraiso Musique with an instrumental cut that sits right on the cusp of nu-disco, Balearica and funky house. An unhurried, rolling affair with handclaps a-gogo, 'Tranquilo' is pleasant enough listening and certainly won't drive any bodies from the dancefloor, though as it lives up to its name and is really rather unassuming, some more mixes might have helped broaden its appeal. Review: Run by two Tokyo based Frenchmen, Jazzy Couscous is a label rooted in a love for jazz and the urban movements it spawned: house, hip-hop and everything in between. A few years back, they tapped Rutilence co-head DJ Steaw (Steaward) for a remix of the legendary Susumu Yokota's timeless epic "Crystal Edge", taken from 1995's Metronome Melody LP. It was released on vinyl and limited to 300 copies exclusive to Juno Records. Three years later, this utterly evocative and sensual expression in late night mood music finally sees the light of day on digital. Essential!

Blood Moon
Blood Moon - (7:22) 123 BPM
Review: One of South Africa's hottest production names steps up for his debut LP on Get Physical Music. Jazzuelle was a highlight on the recent 'Africa Gets Physical' compilation and has built a solid reputation with releases on Atjazz and Lazy Days amongst others. Already one of the most sought after South African artists of the moment, he has his own distinctive sound: deep house with narcotic vibes, soul infused synths and earthy grooves. The album finds him linking with a fine array of guests from Da Capo to Charles Webster, Fred Everything to Matthias Voigt and two great vocalists who help make this one of the year's most accomplished and emotional house albums. Blood Moon showcases Jazzuelle fantastic signature sound and truly resonates way beyond the dancefloor.

Gimme Some More
Gimme Some More - (5:13) 121 BPM
Review: Given Ludovic Llorca's vast experience and hugely impressive track record (not just as Art of Tones, but also under a variety of other aliases), we now expect each successive release to hit the mark. Predictably, this single-track salvo does just that. While rooted in warm, swinging, feel-good 1990s U.S deep house - a sound he has mined extensively in recent years - "Gimme Some More" also includes the kind of jazzy flourishes and toasty instrumentation that was first heard on his first F Communications release, "Can't Take It", way back in 1997. While that particular EP was packed with St Germain style deep jazz-house, "Gimme Some More" is a far more up-front affair, with sampled vocal refrains ratcheting up the track's shoulder-swinging dancefloor intensity.

The Clone
The Clone - (7:28) 123 BPM
Review: Since first pricking our consciousness six years ago, Kyodai has delivered a string of fine EPs for the likes of Freerange, Poker Flat, Mule Musiq and, most regularly, Local Talk. "The Clone" marks the Berlin-based twins first appearance on Exploited since 2014. It's something of a winner, with ear-pleasing piano riffs, elongated synth-strings and a TB-303 acid bassline wrapping themselves around crunchy, club-ready beats. As usual, there's clear progression throughout the track - a couple of breakdowns, new elements that drop in the second half of the track to emphasize its floor-filling potential etc. - and unfussy production that doesn't strive too hard to be clever.

Flamingos
Flamingos (original mix) - (5:50) 121 BPM
Review: Deep, dreamy house with just enough of an edge to make sure things never get bland, boring or overly polite is the order of the day on this single-tracker from French producer Ivan Cattaud, better known to the music-buying public as & My Mother Say (or And My Mother Say, if you're looking for him on social media). 'Flamingos' is built upon a solid bedrock of warm, rounded 4/4s and an unhurried rumbling bassline, atop which sit lingering pads and swirly sci-fi keys, and with its sense of restrained energy is as no-brainer a candidate for the warm-up as you'll hear all week.

Lujann
Lujann (Carrot Green remix) - (6:36) 107 BPM
Review: Those who pay attention to Juno's vinyl charts may already have come across Carrot Green's fabulous remix of "Lujann", which was one of the standout tracks on Music For Dreams' recent double-pack of Bongo Entp productions. The Brazilian producer has done a brilliant job reworking the outfit's warm, organic and sun-kissed original, which combined South American jazz-funk sounds with the lazy, seductive feel of classic Balearica. Carrot Green's remix retains some of these elements - meandering sax solos, organic hand percussion, and so on, while adding a dash of mind-altering acid tweaks and some pleasingly intoxicating effects. The result is a chugging rework that treads the fine line between wavy nu-disco psychedelia and humid Balearic loveliness.

Cassa De X (Martin Brodin dish deep edit) - (8:59) 123 BPM
Played by: Weedyman
Review: For the sixth installment of his Disco For The People series, Martin Brodin has chosen to eschew disco altogether. Instead, he's mined the vaults of his house collection and decided to revisit a relative obscurity from 1994: Elastic Reality's "Cassa De X". Brodin appears to have re-edited and reworked Deep Dish's brilliantly loose deep house remix, bringing it bang up to date via some new drums, well-placed sound effects and excellent use of the original chords and vocal samples. You could definitely describe it as "wide-eyed", and Brodin's version contains a little more electronic tweakery to appeal to nu-disco DJs.

Heart To Find
Heart To Find - (5:36) 119 BPM
Review: Berlin duo Mat.Joe. aka Matze and Johannes are back with "Heart To Find" on the mighty London imprint Azuli, following up great releases on Glasgow Underground, Katermukke and Hot Creations. The latter's influence clearly all over the deep and druggy bass driven house jam with sampled R&B vocals being a nice touch. Expect to be hearing this one on as many dancefloors in Berlin as you will in Ibiza this summer; big hit prediction!

One For Me
One For Me - (5:29) 123 BPM
Review: London producer Louie Anderson's career has been going from strength to strength since his remix of Breach's Jack blew up in 2013. Since then he's signed with Audio Rehab and became a resident in the main room of Ministry Of Sound. Now he's back with possibly his biggest hit to date, "One For Me", a lean and muscular housey roller with retro '90s nods and sultry guest vocals from The Voice UK's Emmy J Mac.

Higher (Benji Candelario Thump Mix)
Higher - (6:33) 124 BPM
Review: American house/garage legend Benji Candelario returns with his new single "Higher" (Benji Candelario Thump Mix), a deep and slinky tech house number with a truly bumping bass, euphoric arpeggios and head rush inducing atmospherics. All off course optimised for maximum dancefloor drama. To top it all off, it also features some awe inspiring vocal work by Arnold Jarvis and Nina Lares. Expect to hear this detonating a dancefloor near you soon. To quote his bio "Candelarios signature soulful house/garage/tech sound is the embodiment of his Manhattan upbringing during the culturally vibrant late 70s and 80s" in addition to cutting his teeth at the legendary Shakedown Studios. We're glad to see the return of such a legend.
