Time Is Right (feat Christina Tamayo) - (5:16) 58 BPM
Review: Saxxon is one of the longest-serving members of the V Recordings camp, with music coming on all parts of Bryan Gee's umbrella movement. Time Is Right is coming on the main label and you can hear why, with a rich texture of sound that spans the whole spectrum of the music, from the rolling funk of 'Get Locked' to the dirty basslines of 'Higher', which also features Wednesday Amelia amongst some of the best sampling we've heard in ages. It's a classic V release that straddles that funky, dancefloor friendly sound that Bryan has done so much to push.

The System (feat Mr Multiplex) - (4:50) 175 BPM
Review: Saxxon is taking no breaks after his recent album on Liondub and he's back on V Recordings with the Fifth Elements EP. This release perfectly blends soul with dirt, exemplified by tune #1 'Here To Play', which begins in lighter territory but switches into a powerful, thursting bassline that just rolls, rolls and rolls some more. 'One For Me' is even funkier and more fluid on the intro, a soulful sample rising above the drums before darkness pushes out from the drop and hits you in the chest - this tune doesn't break down and rightly so. 'Hurricanes' lies in more vocal-led territory thanks to Wednesday Amelia, who sounds beautiful above its bouncing, squelchy back end. The opening strings and piano on 'Love Note' are a statement of intent for a tune that quickly evolves into a dichotomous riot between light and dark, with a bassline that's eccentric but just doesn't care. The EP finishes on 'System', an uncompromising tune that ties up perfectly a classic V Recordings release.

Meladee - "Connoisseur" - (4:23) 175 BPM Biggest-selling track on this release
Review: Niterider, Saxxon and more are landing on Murky Digital with the Wolf Man EP and, as you can probably tell from the name of the label it's coming out on, it's a seriously murky bit of work. This is obvious from the first tune, a BassBrothers remix of Leaf's 'Dup Up The Dance', which expands hugely down into the back end with penetrating force, swaying and moving as it goes. The rest of the release is powered by the same relentlessness and 'Long Haul'' carries an expansive back end that undergirds a sequence of menacing sampling, whilst 'Audible' possibly has the most creative bassline on the release in a wicked display of dancefloor heat. Sick stuff.

Saxxon & Liondub - "Real Sound Killa" (feat Capital D - Saxxon's dub VIP) - (6:07) 175 BPM
Review: Saxxon lets rip with a balls-out collabo fest loaded with the highest level vocal touches; T>I and Blackout Ja are the first to arrive at the party with a snaking funk bag of a jam that celebrates the sticky-icky while Saxxon goes it alone with Navi on the bubbling, happy-slapping sub bumper "Rollcall". Finally we have "Real Sound Killa" with Professor Liondub himself; a ripped and ready roller with guttural calls from Capital D, it lands just in time for your end-of-summer skank-ups. Need a 1up? Jump on Saxxy's killer VIP. Action stations!

Saxxon & AK1200 - "Ignition" (feat Blackout JA) - (4:39) 172 BPM

Roll Through (feat MC Coppa) - (5:55) 175 BPM
Review: Saxxon's "Jungle Odyssey" continues with four more firestarting burn ups. The EP kicks off in earnest with "Way Back". A hook up with DJ Limited, it's one of those holy grail tracks that's hard, soulful, funk and deep all at the same time thanks to a fine tuned bounce on the wobbles and those jazzy chords. Meanwhile "Yo Yo" brings even more wobble and jazz to the mix with a rampant sense of early 2000s funk and the final two tracks bring the MC to the fore; "Ignition" with Blackout JA is a forthright shredder with some incredible distortion and restraint on the bassline while "Roll Through" sees Coppa spitting over a rubber band bassline and subtle mid 90s Headz references. This album is going to be massive.

Jungle Brothers - (5:12) 175 BPM
Review: Saxxon has had a wicked past year or so, first with the release of his debut album and then his top-notch EP on V Recordings. Now, he's on Natty Dub for a four-tracker that sits comfortably on the intersection between jungle, jump-up and darker bits, a nice concoction of influences that come together for wicked results. The title track is fresh and creative, with a skippy, Serum-esque drum line and arpeggiated synth nodes that climb and fall in tandem with each other, forming a hypnotic main melody. 'More Dangerous' takes things into darker territory, as does 'Insomniac', and 'Jungle Brothers' combines furious percussion with a ratline sense of force. Big stuff from Saxxon.

RV/Garry K - "Jonny Bravo" - (4:35) 174 BPM
Review: Random Concept calling an EP "Floor Fillers" is like Mr Kipling naming his new range of cakes as 'tasty'... We can't think of a release on the label that hasn't filled the floor! Stating the obvious is just one of the label's strengths, they can also put together a serious all star cast, as proved right here: Jayline's "Tommy Knocker" flexes with a vocal power that's reminiscent of DJ SS and Warren G's work together, Filthy Habits continue to dominate with a powerful jump-up ripper while Saxxon does a really trippy trick as a jazzy riff comes out of a radio tuning sample before leaping into a demonstratively dark bass riff. Elsewhere we find bong-busting Blackley doing the funky triplet thing on "Botanical", Modified Motion add a little bounce to the collection with a blend that's highly reminiscent of Moving Fusion back in the day while RV and Garry K close the show with an eerie stepper, all stretched out hollow bass and cheek-splintering snares.

Saxxon & Liondub - "Real Sound Killa" (feat Capital D - Saxxon's Dub VIP) - (6:05) 175 BPM
Review: Even just glancing at the amount of killer collaborators Saxxon's recruited for his odyssey you know this is a huge album: Navi, Coppa, T>I, DJ Limited, AK1200, Jaxx, Blackout JA and Liondub all play a role in this ambitious affair. And that's before we even address the music itself; rollers, slappers and vibers hanging from every corner like ill fitting suits, highlights include the heavily rotated bassline bust up "Rollcall", the trippy tripletty swing, strange buzzes and piano bliss of "Way Back", the woozy soul and fat wobbles of "The Night Before 420", the loose limbed jazz of "The Dopest" and pant swinging bassline slappery of "Wile E Coyote". And that's just the tip of the Odyssey iceberg. Huge respect to Saxxon, this isn't an album, it's a statement and way of life.

Saxxon - "Radio Raheem" - (5:58) 175 BPM
Review: London label further crank up the expectations regarding their upcoming Rise of the Soldiers compilation with a second digi sampler featuring the collective talents of Saxxon and Bladerunner. A strong figure in the UK drum and bass scene for over a decade, Bladerunner makes his presence felt with the taut jungle rollage of "Into The Fire", a collaboration with DNA. Saxxon meanwhile goes solo with the rugged darkside business of "Radio Raheem" that has some superbly programmed drum fills. The Soldiers' uprising will be strong on the basis of these Natty Dub samplers!

Review: Fresh from releasing their first album, Natty Dub label bosses Cabin Fever and Patman clears space in the schedule for a five track showdown of his own. Lean, spares and muscular are the power words of the day as Saxxon fuses classic late 90s jump up with future jungle and modern production touches. Highlights include the balance of atonal bass burps, the apache break and jazz chords on "Junction", the Sub Zero style bass plunges and classic gaming samples on "Street Fire" and the paranoid low end stretches and twisted soul sample on "Proceed". Complete with a cheeky 40 minute mix, Saxxon is spoiling us right here.

Review: Splitting differentials since emerging on V almost four years ago, Saxxon sledges over to Clawhammer for more armour-denting jungle business. "Below The Belt" punches where it promises with a loose shaker, '96 subs and a groove that rolls so smoothly it could make Randall blush. "Human Music" steps up a little with an early 2000s-style bass riff where a simple melody makes complex impressions. Lean and lava-like in their flow, this is the sound of Saxxon rolling the hell out.

Review: You shoot, you score... Weapons Of Choice look back over the last two years of killer rollers and thumpers and recruit a rollcall of hurter-mongers for some updates. The seemingly ubiquitous Bou returns with a savage shakedown of Saxxon's "Weapons", L Side flips Simplification's "Awesome Days" into a crazy amen munching sea serpent, Redeyes adds some dreamy charm to Dave Owen's "Twin Stars" while Jayline gives Mr Explicit's "Funk Ya System" an absolute foghorning. Full El Dude Brothers business, this has the power of at least 100 truckers all learning on the horn at once. Shots fired!
