Review: Saxxon has had a wicked past year or so, first with the release of his debut album and then his top-notch EP on V Recordings. Now, he's on Natty Dub for a four-tracker that sits comfortably on the intersection between jungle, jump-up and darker bits, a nice concoction of influences that come together for wicked results. The title track is fresh and creative, with a skippy, Serum-esque drum line and arpeggiated synth nodes that climb and fall in tandem with each other, forming a hypnotic main melody. 'More Dangerous' takes things into darker territory, as does 'Insomniac', and 'Jungle Brothers' combines furious percussion with a ratline sense of force. Big stuff from Saxxon.

Review: Fresh from releasing their first album, Natty Dub label bosses Cabin Fever and Patman clears space in the schedule for a five track showdown of his own. Lean, spares and muscular are the power words of the day as Saxxon fuses classic late 90s jump up with future jungle and modern production touches. Highlights include the balance of atonal bass burps, the apache break and jazz chords on "Junction", the Sub Zero style bass plunges and classic gaming samples on "Street Fire" and the paranoid low end stretches and twisted soul sample on "Proceed". Complete with a cheeky 40 minute mix, Saxxon is spoiling us right here.

FD's remix of Pola & Bryson still rattles and spanks with air and clarity three years later, Data 3 reunite with Blake for a new moment of poignancy on 'You & I' while Saxxon's 'House On The Hill' is still an off the wall jazz stunner almost seven years later. Next up are two bangers from the BCee camp; Vanguard Project slam out a Marky-style jam with 'What We Got' while trouble-free troubadour Fulgoni joins Steve for the cosmic soul finale. Review: Saxxon is taking no breaks after his recent album on Liondub and he's back on V Recordings with the Fifth Elements EP. This release perfectly blends soul with dirt, exemplified by tune #1 'Here To Play', which begins in lighter territory but switches into a powerful, thursting bassline that just rolls, rolls and rolls some more. 'One For Me' is even funkier and more fluid on the intro, a soulful sample rising above the drums before darkness pushes out from the drop and hits you in the chest - this tune doesn't break down and rightly so. 'Hurricanes' lies in more vocal-led territory thanks to Wednesday Amelia, who sounds beautiful above its bouncing, squelchy back end. The opening strings and piano on 'Love Note' are a statement of intent for a tune that quickly evolves into a dichotomous riot between light and dark, with a bassline that's eccentric but just doesn't care. The EP finishes on 'System', an uncompromising tune that ties up perfectly a classic V Recordings release.

Review: Even just glancing at the amount of killer collaborators Saxxon's recruited for his odyssey you know this is a huge album: Navi, Coppa, T>I, DJ Limited, AK1200, Jaxx, Blackout JA and Liondub all play a role in this ambitious affair. And that's before we even address the music itself; rollers, slappers and vibers hanging from every corner like ill fitting suits, highlights include the heavily rotated bassline bust up "Rollcall", the trippy tripletty swing, strange buzzes and piano bliss of "Way Back", the woozy soul and fat wobbles of "The Night Before 420", the loose limbed jazz of "The Dopest" and pant swinging bassline slappery of "Wile E Coyote". And that's just the tip of the Odyssey iceberg. Huge respect to Saxxon, this isn't an album, it's a statement and way of life.

Review: Saxxon lets rip with a balls-out collabo fest loaded with the highest level vocal touches; T>I and Blackout Ja are the first to arrive at the party with a snaking funk bag of a jam that celebrates the sticky-icky while Saxxon goes it alone with Navi on the bubbling, happy-slapping sub bumper "Rollcall". Review: Saxxon's "Jungle Odyssey" continues with four more firestarting burn ups. The EP kicks off in earnest with "Way Back". A hook up with DJ Limited, it's one of those holy grail tracks that's hard, soulful, funk and deep all at the same time thanks to a fine tuned bounce on the wobbles and those jazzy chords. Meanwhile "Yo Yo" brings even more wobble and jazz to the mix with a rampant sense of early 2000s funk and the final two tracks bring the MC to the fore; "Ignition" with Blackout JA is a forthright shredder with some incredible distortion and restraint on the bassline while "Roll Through" sees Coppa spitting over a rubber band bassline and subtle mid 90s Headz references. This album is going to be massive.

Review: Saxxon and Teej on Nuusic... Do we need to say any more at this juncture? Everything about this one bangs hard with uncompromising, grubby, rabble-rousing funk and energy as the two hugely respected craftsmen link up for the first time. 'Soundkill' has an energy and vibe that's not dissimilar to the early 2000s Bingo Beats style with its ricochet elements and funk stabs. Meanwhile 'Akuma' sees Saxxon getting stuck in on a previous Teej joint with deadly effects. Killer sounds!

Review: What a treat we have here as the one and only Saxxon makes an explosive return, this time courtesy of the team at Digital Terror, welcoming a fabulous four track display of jungle-inspired madness. We kick off with the unpredictable break licks and grizzly synth design of 'Unexpected Guest', which immediately unleashes an injection of systemized power, before the slowly warbling basslines and eerie melodic twists of 'Blast Off' crunch their way into view. Next, the gnarly synth barks and high intensity drum arrangements of 'Jagged Waves' definitely up the energy levels of the whole project before rounding things off with the sub-heavy, reesey twists of '14 Meteors', which through a combination of syncopated drum textures and bulbous bass tones close the EP off in style.

Review: London label further crank up the expectations regarding their upcoming Rise of the Soldiers compilation with a second digi sampler featuring the collective talents of Saxxon and Bladerunner. A strong figure in the UK drum and bass scene for over a decade, Bladerunner makes his presence felt with the taut jungle rollage of "Into The Fire", a collaboration with DNA. Saxxon meanwhile goes solo with the rugged darkside business of "Radio Raheem" that has some superbly programmed drum fills. The Soldiers' uprising will be strong on the basis of these Natty Dub samplers!

Review: Niterider, Saxxon and more are landing on Murky Digital with the Wolf Man EP and, as you can probably tell from the name of the label it's coming out on, it's a seriously murky bit of work. This is obvious from the first tune, a BassBrothers remix of Leaf's 'Dup Up The Dance', which expands hugely down into the back end with penetrating force, swaying and moving as it goes. The rest of the release is powered by the same relentlessness and 'Long Haul'' carries an expansive back end that undergirds a sequence of menacing sampling, whilst 'Audible' possibly has the most creative bassline on the release in a wicked display of dancefloor heat. Sick stuff.
