Review: While he never went away, it would be fair to say that DJ Sneak has enjoyed something of a career revival of late. This EP for Phonogramme follows strong recent outings for Heist Recordings, Hard Times and Toy Tonics. He begins in pleasingly bouncy and percussive mode on 'Let It Go', where warming stabs and hushed melodic motifs rise above a Kenny Dope style bumpin' house beat and deep, rich bass, before opting for a wonky, mind-mangling sound on title track 'Galactic Funk'. The Chicago veteran then gives it to us 'Soft & Ruff' - think rolling, locked-in grooves and slowly evolving melodic loops - while closing cut 'Crashin' Out' is a suitably sub-heavy slab of deep loop-house headiness.

Review: Legend of the scene Robert Babicz pushes on with his Kelch label, notching up release number 11 which sends in three sublime numbers of dubbed-out, deep, progressive and melancholic magic. Pulling at the heart strings like Moderat used to, "Black Moon" is an awe inspiring number to kick things off. Stripping it back somewhat and working with the reggae vibes for sure is "Dubnosis" with its classic dub groove that underpins ethereal pads and new age vocal effects in the background - deep and contemplative for sure, choice cut! Review: With artwork reflecting some classic James Bond-isms, Mia Mendi makes a triumphant return to Watergate Records only months after her debut. Back in remix form, no less - TH;EN, Widerberg, and Moonwalk are employed to take on Mendi's production suite, with the 'melodic techno specialists' collectively injecting some sidewinding dynamics into her originals. Review: Next up on Sleep D's label is Fader Cap with a tripped-out four track EP. Following a path that traverses techno and progressive house while making nods to trance and dub influences, Blue Pool is a distinctive release. "Toxic Lip" resounds to bugged out acid and a pulsating bass, while "1080 Beach" is all about the frazzled, hypnotic textures that Fader Cap fuses with a rolling groove. "Day Dream" is just as tripped out, with half-heard vocal samples unravelling over spiralling acid lines. "Blue Pool" is another wonderfully frazzled track - led by reverberating, synth hook and lithe break beats, it's the ideal soundtrack to accompany warmer, longer days.

Review: It's 2024 which means it's time pay your tributes to the trance Gods once again with some newly re-upped versions of Chicanes all-time classic "Offshore". Unquestionably one the the most important and influential trance productions of all time, this latest addition to the series brings with it an orchestral touch, with, first of all, the 'Symphonic Rehearsal mix' - baroque in its reverberation and as if kissed by some Deep Forest breaks of that French new age '90s sound. Secondly we get a pulsating DC Symphonic Rehearsal mix with its techno beat, progressive bassline and subtle dub tinges for a classical and reduced version that doesn't skimp on the original's divine string section. Such a release wouldn't be replete without the all time, seminal, original either.

For the uninitiated through, the 'Playa D'en Bossa' series harks back to an earlier era of 'Balearic', before the term became synonymous with ethereal chill-out grooves, whale song and fluttering Spanish guitars, and when it referred instead to an electic, open-minded approach to programming DJ sets. Review: Some "cosmic tech-house" here, as little-known Leipzig producer Mbius makes his bow on R.A.N.D Muzik Recordings offshoot Breakfree Records. He sets his stall out via fantastically spacey, rolling and bass-heavy opener 'Mr Nimbus'- all shimmering chords, classic tech-house glitches, deep synth-bass and star-fall electronics - before reaching for seriously squelchy synth-bass, swinging deep house beats and sun-splashed chords on the superb 'Cosmic Disco'. 'Mittelaschen Sundowner' is a gorgeous chunk of warm and tactile tech-house of the sort that British producers consistently offered up at the turn of the century, while 'XBD' cannily combines vintage New Jersey deep house sounds with hypnotic, tech-tinged grooves.

Review: As befits the Tronic label's catalogue, the latest edition of Rockets is a diverse dance floor affair. It includes the hypnotic, deep house of Sofian's "FAKIR", which sits alongside the tough, Sound Factory-influenced groove of That Kid Chris' "Where's The Love". On the techno front, the compilation also has a lot to offer. Agent Orange DJ's "It's Gonna Get" revolves around an intense, building rhythm that has parallels with Luke Slater's remix of Joey Beltram's "Fork Lift". Rods Franchin's "Experience" goes down a more percussive route, while the compilation reaches a dramatic conclusion on Lucas Aguilera's "Tranzicion". Led by hardcore-themed synth builds and devastating snare rolls, it makes for an intense finale.

The minimal end of the house spectrum is also well-served; there's the woozy break downs and builds of Martin Ikin's driving "Oscill8" and Essel's deconstructed rhythm on "Lennon". Amsterdam 2023 also serves up some irresistible, old-school selections. Pirate Copy's "Love Will Save the Day" is an intense, hardcore-sampling house track. Review: Just like his country's cyclists on the 'grand tours' of Europe, Felipe Gordon is climbing rapidly - though he has the summit of deep house in his sights, rather than a legendary French, Italian or Spanish mountain. His music is always assured, on-point and playable, and this three-tracker is no exception. Title track 'The Warehouse Beast' is, by his standards, pleasingly bold, with echoing spoken word snippets, classic-sounding stabs and fizzing electric piano riffs rising above a chunky bassline and loose-limbed deep house drums. Glenn Underground brilliantly re-imagines the track as an ever deeper, more musically detailed treat underpinned by a fantastic acid bassline, while bonus cut 'It's Over (Drive My Car)' is - somewhat surprisingly - a hazy, loved-up deep house take on The Beatles (really).

Review: Bedouin, the creative partnership of Rami Abousabe and Tamer Malki, released its expansive debut album, Temple Of Dreams, earlier this year. Now Human By Default is putting out remixes of key tracks from the long player. First up is Damian Lazarus, with a reshape of "Voices In My Head". Integrating the original version's chants into a swirling, deep house groove, the Crosstown Rebels boss delivers an esoteric take that is sure to stand out. Vintage Culture's remix of "Tijuana" is more upfront. While retaining Bedouin's mysterious melodies, he factors in an insistent minimal house rhythm. It makes for a captivating but club-friendly combination.

Review: If you're looking for something suitably uplifting and celebratory, you could do worse than check out the Watergate debut from Aziz Haddad AKA Skatman. 'Save Me', the title track, is a genuine neo-trance-goes-house wonder - all throbbing grooves, undulating acid bass, grandiose mid-80s synth-pop chords, eyes-closed female vocals samples and addictive organ stabs. Tal Fulsman channels the spirits of Junior Vasquez and Danny Tenaglia on a tough, dark and muscular tribal house remix, before Haddad delivers two tidy bonus cuts: the hypnotic and psychedelic neo-trance pulse of 'One More Time' and the 80s electro-meets-freestyle-synth-pop sparkle of 'I Can't Take It'.

Review: Affekt Unit, a new collaboration between Philoxenia Records founders Luigi Di Venere and Neu Verboten, has released a three-track EP titled "Discorgy." The EP celebrates their musical obsessions - Italo house, Frankfurt EBM-house, and trance - and features an electrifying crossover of these classic genres together with surprising new sounds. The first track, "Oct-Opus," boasts a serious electro component, fused with progressive trance, UK bass, techno, transcendental rave, and even a climactic outbreak of rave-era breaks. The title track, "Discorgy," draws from Euro dance and EBM, experimenting with a polyrhythmic bass line and bringing the kind of "stadium house" that The KLF were always aiming for. The closing track, "Dreams Of Wrestlers," is cosmic house at its sweetest and beefiest, spruced here and there with Italo stabs and pianos, drum machine fills, and some lovely subtle filtering. Review: Following the recent Amplify release, Rodriguez Jr returns with another crossover track. "Visions" resounds to rich strings and epic melodies and sees him collaborate again with his wife and vocalist Liset Alea. Playing out over an epic bass, her rousing tones add the requisite amount of drama to the arrangement. Lending the release real underground kudos are two remixes from Tim Engelhardt. The first take sees him meld the vocals with a steely rhythm, overlaid with dramatic, welling chords. The instrumental version follows a similar approach, but with a focus on the relentless groove and knotted percussion as the epic chords arc upwards.

Review: Cologne powerhouse Kompakt have continually defined a unique aesthetic as label - deep, atmospheric and absolutely evocative. For the 19th edition of their revered Total series - The Voigt Brothers & Co. curate another splendid compilation featuring the very best in international electronic music from the last year, taking in a wide variety of styles, tempos moods and grooves - yet all with the label's distinct taste.
