Review: Veteran DJ and producer Nic Fanciulli lands at Hot Creations with his first original material for the label, the aptly titled "You Sure Do" EP. This two-tracker wastes no time showcasing Fanciulli's ability to craft dancefloor bombs that pay homage to the past while sounding fresh and current. The opening track, "YSD," is a full-on disco-infused house anthem. Fanciulli lays down a foundation of massive basslines and a pounding drum groove, creating an atmosphere guaranteed to get bodies moving. The track isn't just a nostalgic throwback, though. Review: Glitterbox knows how to throw a party, and "Glitterbox Archives Vol 4" proves it once again. This EP collects four previously unreleased, dancefloor-tested gems, each offering a unique flavour of the label's signature sound. Kicking off with a bang is The Shapeshifters' "Try My Love (On For Size) (The Rub Dub)". This extended version of the already infectious disco anthem dives deeper into its groove, layering dubby effects and pulsating basslines that will have you moving right away. Next up, Michael Gray and Kelli Sae's "You're Gonna Make Me Dub Somebody Else" takes things down a notch. The "dub" moniker lives up to its name, stripping away some of the original's funk elements and emphasizing the hypnotic rhythm section. Kelli Sae's sultry vocals remain captivating, while the dub treatment creates a more introspective and atmospheric aura. Art Of Tones & Inaya Day's "Give My Love (Piano Dub)" is a revelation. This stripped-down version showcases the song's beautiful piano melody and Inaya Day's powerful vocals in a whole new light. Rounding out the EP is Qwestlife's "Hit It Off (Babert Remix)". Italian house maestro Babert injects his signature energy into the track, transforming it into a driving house anthem. As you'd expect from a label helmed by Kraak & Smaak, it's a genuinely joyous and celebratory affair, packed to the rafters with party-starting workouts. With a strong connection to the platform of late with albums and releases like Tataki, Pantheon and Aria next to the collaborative gem Higher Power - Argy has officially arrived. With this album in particular pitched as the artist's magnum opus, New World proves to be a fusion of human emotion inter-mixed with and AI innovation. Going large for those Afterlife sets no doubt, a techno futuristic and modern melodic Argy sends in 14 large scale tracks for the stadium space - ie "No One's Coming" and "Higher Power" - to the bad ass vampire acid in "Wilderness" or Juan Atkins Cyberton reflections in Tibet - Rad!

Review: Midnight Riot do their bit to address the much-discussed gender imbalance in dance music with a 25-track collection featuring an almost entirely female line-up (though a few possessors of Y-chromosomes do sneak in as collaborators). With big names like Kathy Brown, DJ Paulette, Rowetta, Caron Wheeler, Sulene Fleming and Natasha Kitty Katt nestling up alongside a host of more up-and-coming artists, the quality standard is high throughout, with the musical emphasis largely on good-time, Saturday night house and disco vibes, though there a few more gently paced moments - notably in the form of covers of Bobby Caldwell's 'What You Won't Do For Love' and Sade's 'Sweetest Taboo' - while Paulette & Massey serve up a pleasing dose of acid on 'Sheroes'.

Review: In an industry where the term 'veteran' is bandied about far too freely, Colin Curtis is the real deal! His DJing career goes all the way back to legendary Northern Soul club The Golden Torch in the late 60s. In the 70s, he was a resident at Blackpool Mecca alongside Ian Levine, where he became one of the first DJs to introduce the more modern sound of jazz-funk to the scene. By the mid-80s he'd become an early UK champion of house, too, but these days it's on the jazz-dance scene that he's most revered - and here he serves up a 26-track connoisseur's collection that shows why. Ranging from straight-up jazz and soul to soulful house and leaning heavily towards the Afro- and Latin-flavoured, some of these cuts are recent offerings, some date back as far as the 70s, but on jazz-dance floors, all will go down a treat.

Review: Dombrance has spent the last few years making music inspired by imaginary French politicians of the 1960s, '70s and '80s. To round of the project, he's pitched up on Discolypso to share the final two tracks - and a wealth of remixes. 'Bayou' is a certified throb-job in which alien-sounding synths and heady vocalisations rise above a pulsating, Italo-disco groove, while 'Cope' is a darker, techno-tempo workout rich in analogue electronics and driving grooves. There are too many remixes to mention them all, but our picks include Lindstrom's breezy, electrofunk-influenced Norse disco take on 'Bayou', Baldelli and Dionigi's hybrid dub disco/Afro-cosmic take on the same track and Francois K's suspenseful, stretched-out, slow-build revision of 'Cope'. Throw in a deliciously druggy, Italo-disco-goes-rave revision of the same cut by Diskjokke, and you have a genhinely brilliant package.

Review: Billed as a "tribute to the forgotten late '80s/early '90s era of Bhangra influenced by house, dub and hip-hop", this expansive collection boasts fresh remixes of tracks from Manjeet Kondal's 1986 album 'Holle Holle', and a fresh cut featuring vocal samples from that set. Mr Scruff steps up to provide the remixes, offering four passes on 'Ishkaan de Mamie': a deliciously jacking, proto house-meets-acid house full vocal remix that lasts for just a shade under 10 mesmerising minutes, a sleazy and percussive 'Instrumental Dub', an alternative 'Vocal Strip Down' take with added TB-303 tweaks, and a tidy 'Edit'. Turbotito and Ragz deliver 'Pyaar', a brilliant slab of late '80s style Bhangra/hip-hop fusion with added acid lines. The 'Lovey Dubby Dub' is a sensational alternative pass that's arguably better than the duo's original mix.

Review: As anyone who has followed his career will tell you, Cor.Ece is a talented chap - a GRAMMY award-winning songwriter (he has enjoyed mega-hits with his work for Beyonce) and Honey Dijon collaborator who also happens to be a top-notch vocalist, producer and musician. On 'Be Here Before', he joins forces with Bastard Jazz regulars Bad Colours to deliver a fabulous full-length excursion. They set the tone with 'Say Yea', a constantly rising slab of soul-fired deep tech-house, before flitting between intergalactic house-soul ('Mars'), 21st century hip-house/nu-disco fusion (the ace 'What Happened To The Revolutionary'), UKG-influenced excellence ('Jeans'), Afrobeats-adjacent awesomeness ('Might Could'), slow motion boogie-soul ('Mt Miss U') and much more besides. Review: Argentinian producer and re-editor Alexny returns to Furious Mandrill with the third installment in a series that draws heavily on world music influences, though whether the three tracks here are re-edits or original productions is a little unclear. Either way, 'Que Pasa' is, unsurprisingly, a Latin-flavoured affair with dense layers of percussion and a one-line vocal, 'Conmbe' is a somewhat funkier affair with a full male vocal in an unknown language and some energetic guitar work that hints at highlife, while finally 'Donme' is a deep, shufflin' groove with choral vox (again in an unidentified tongue) and probably the best bet for non-specialist floors.

Review: Brazil's Hugo Doche returns to East London-based label The Disco Express with three fresh slices of contemporary disco/disco-house. 'Hit The Tracks' features a very pop-oriented vocal from Sansy but also sports some excellent sax work, the Kria McKenzie-sporting 'This Feeling' has something of the lounge-y vibe of late 70s Brazilian disco but also comes accompanied by a significantly more house-ified remix from Birdee that for this reviewer is the standout track on the EP, while finally 'Dance' features Carla Sceno on mic duties and rocks crisp 4/4s and a fat funk bassline.

Review: Two Chi-town veterans scene join forces with predictably fine results that are served up in three quite different mixes. In its Original form, 'Body Jerkin' is a disco-house paean to the delights of the dancefloor with a full vocal from Everett, live-sounding hand percussion and naggingly familiar disco strings. The Chicago Mix kicks much harder from the off with rock-solid 4/4s, but almost immediately takes a far jazzier turn with meandering, wigged-out keys, Everett getting his scat on and horns joining the party around the three-minute mark. And then there's the Disco Mix, which opts for a more 70s-ish sound palette but takes a looping, cut-up approach. All three are eminently playable but the Chicago Mix is the one for the proverbial 'heads'.

Review: Boblebad - that'll be Norwegian for 'hot tub' or 'jacuzzi', then - goes by the name of Ulf Moen Denneche in real life and hails, unsurprisingly, from Oslo. Here he comes to Citizens Of Vice with three tracks of (mostly) heavily electronic nu disco, with the title track a jaunty, lolloping affair sporting some Daft Punk-esque guitar flourishes, 'Just Think About That Feeling' a slightly deeper, spacier number built for late-hours play, and 'At The Beach' the quirkiest and least synth-tastic cut of the three with its sampled seaside sounds, insistent hand percussion, Spanish guitars and kiddy vox.

Review: Belfast-born producer Rory Hamilton, known as Hammer, showcases his adeptness in the underground sound with his latest offering, Red Alert. With a pedigree co-helming Feel My Bicep and releases on Optimo and Shall Not Fade, Hammer's disco sound travels globally. "Red Alert" goes large with its superbly chugging rhythm, featuring a sleazy low end and cosmic arpeggios, grounded by a taught bassline. Its subtly euphoric atmosphere, Italo chord progressions, and retro sound designs inject some vibrant colour into the mix. Shackling up for the single is ABSOLUTE., a luminary of the London dance scene also, who delivers a raw and percussive remix that harkens back to early Chicago house, adorned with rave-ready stabs and energetic drums.

Review: Not be confused with Nang disco veterans Kim & Buran, Buran are the Manchester duo of Ian Scott and Josef Wretham, and on this four-track EP for Insult To Injury they showcase a sound that sits somewhere between acid house, dark disco and techno, with analogue synths firmly at the heart of all they do. The first track, 'Alnitak', is a pure vintage-style acid workout, before things get a little more esoteric as 'Alnilam' throws world music influences into the pot. 'Mintaka' then pushes us firmly into techno territory, with Void Complet rounding out the EP by giving 'Alnitak' a spaced-out nu-disco makeover.

Review: Vicente Milioto De Palma - better known as Vhyce - has a strong track record when it comes to blurring the boundaries between contemporary electronic disco and house music, with plentiful releases on Future Disco, Pets Recordings and Correspondant to his name. It's to the latter label that he returns for his first outing of 2024, the five-track Elusive Framework. He begins with full length and edited versions of the title track, a quietly uplifting fusion of colourful nu-disco synths, rolling bass, crunchy drum machine fills and insanely gorgeous chords. Elsewhere, he opts for a dirtier Italo-disco bassline (and mildly moodier) electronics on the all-action rush of 'Orographic Cloud', doffs a cap to formative piano house on the saucer-eyed 'I Wish You Knew', and joins the dots between nu-disco and the Pet Shop Boys' 'Relentless' album on the similarly piano-heavy 'Forever'.

Review: Since emerging in the late 2000s, Jonathan Braverman AKA Ladies On Mars has not only delivered tons of tasty original EPs, but also countless quality remixes. Here he takes a second trawl through his 'remixography', offering up seven more catalogue highlights. There's a swathe of re-rubs of tracks by Dennis Jones, including a suitably joyous nu-disco 'extended remix' of his 'Celebration' cover, an Italo-disco-meets-disco-funk 'Club Dub' of 'I Was Made For Dancing', and a deliciously detailed and sun-splashed extended rework of 'Fireworks'. Elsewhere, the Argentina-based producer delivers a wonderfully low-slung, Bobby Orlando-influenced nu-disco tweak of Jimmy Brixton's 'Bowie On Mars', and joins the dots between Italo-disco and 'French Touch' disco-house on an energetic revision of 'Get Up Girl' by Vilanis.
