Review: Max Beesley has long juggled a twin career as both actor and musician. In the latter guise (as a drummer, percussionist and vibes player) he's toured and recorded with everyone from Incognito and Zero 7, via George Benson and Stevie Wonder, to Paul Weller and Robbie Williams - yet surprisingly, this is only his second long-player. The all-instrumental 'Zeus' was recorded in Los Angeles at the start of this year, and features some of the most respected session players in the business, including drummer Steve Gadd, guitarist Dean Parks - both known for their work with Steely Dan - pianist Christian Sands and percussionist Luis Conte. Little wonder, then, that it really is quite astoundingly good from start to finish: if you've had even the slightest interest in jazz-funk, Latin jazz, jazz fusion, library music and such, then this is an album you need in your life, end of story.
