Review: Next up on Laurent Garnier's label is a split release that explores the deeper end of house and techno. DJ Deep is up first with "What's Going On". Powered by raw, tribal beats and featuring lush pads, it sounds like the veteran house head's tribute to Joe Clausell's organic sound. Avision's "Hold No Groove" is also inspired by house music, but on this occasion, Chicago rather than New York is referenced. Combining a snaking bass with busy, layered percussion, the result is mesmerising. Deetron ups the tempo but maintains a deep sound on "Pulse", its musical but insistent rhythm recalls classic Kenny Larkin.

Review: Honorio first made his name as a drum'n'bass producer, but as Endless Love demonstrates, he is also adept at making dance floor techno. The title track features Theo Nasa's ominous vocals unfolding over robust tribal drums and dynamic percussive twists, making for a moody techno track. "Gunz Blazin" is a house-influenced affair. Led by filtered samples and a rolling groove, it reveals a lighter side to Honorio's sound. On "Stabbed In The Heart", he opts for a deeper approach - focused on tribal drums and spaced-out synths, it's an expertly measured homage to Octave One. The release also features a sleek, steely take of the title track by label owner Len Faki under his Hardspace alias.

Review: Dynamic Forces follows last year's Hardride release on Planet Rhythm with this firing four-tracker. "First Day of Life" is a Purposemaker-style dense groove, replete with insistent stabs and vocal snatches. Clocking in at the 140bpm mark, it gets the release off to a frenetic - but funky - start. "New Set Up" resounds to a similar tempo, but on this occasion, atmospheric synths lend the arrangement a deeper edge. In contrast, "Plague" is all about its bruising drums, utilitarian claps and a pounding rhythm. Returning to Millsian influences again, Dynamic Forces drops "Tango". This time, the focus is on a white-knuckle ride through grainy, relentless minimalism.

Review: Few producers can compete with Mark Broom when it comes to making techno for dark, smoke-filled rooms. On his latest release, the veteran UK producer effortlessly captures this aesthetic. Both "VV2" and "Listen" are driving, linear tracks powered by insistent claps and rolling snares. Meanwhile "Sound System" sees Broom deliver a more abrasive take on this style, with a combination of gated synths and tough kicks. "Pipz" is in a similar vein, with an added layer of militaristic percussion adding to its dance floor appeal. Rounding off the release is "Tool". As its titles suggests, it's a relentless, driving techno track designed to cause maximum impact.

Review: After a flurry of activity in 2023 for Suara, Sleaze and Planet Rhythm, long-established producer Axel Karakasis returns to his own imprint with Source Of Data. Fans of tough, lean techno will find much to love here, particularly "Objective", with its combination of tight claps and powerful, looped bass. But the release also yields surprises by following other paths: "Asphalt" sees Karakasis venture down a Millsian route, guided by dense, visceral kicks and an atmospheric undercurrent. On "Inner Voice" he also pursues a more unconventional approach. While the track is based on tough kicks and a cacophony of nagging percussion, it is also swathed in swirling atmospheric synths.

Review: SHDW's label marks its twentieth release with this weighty compilation. Drawing on some of the most respected names in techno, volume three is full of peak-time bangers. There's the lean, rolling techno of Chlar's "Inside Us", while Dax J showers the listener with waves of acid tones on the steely, peak-time "Celestial Dub". The Advent's "Randomized" is a bruising and quite brilliant industrial techno workout. While Blawan's hyperactive "Don't You Dare Squawk At Me" hovers just below the 160 bpm mark, not all of the compilation is as intense. Vocals are mixed with chiming chords on Gary Beck's "Fold" and Z.I.P.P.O's "Broken Game" is a deep Detroit techno track.

Review: The latest split release on Analogue isn't designed for the faint-hearted. Dax J's "Ares" gets the EP off to an intense start. Powered by the hardest drums this side of Synewave, there is some relief in the form of the moody house organ that is woven through the arrangement. On "Kal", Kaiser dispenses with musical elements in favour of a relentless tribal rhythm - like a high-paced take on vintage Octave One. Meanwhile, ANFS' "Amete" is centred on a brooding, ebm-style bass and cavernous sound design. Maintaining the same energy but utilising a different approach is Jerm's "Kaki", a pounding rhythm track.

Review: The Exhibit series aims to showcase emerging artists who operate at the raw end of the techno spectrum. While not a new act, label owners Slam get the ball rolling with their own "Exhibit 3", which revisits the raw, jacking sound of their Snapshots release. EJA's "Detachment Theory" represents a more contemporary take on underground techno. Led by a pumping, heads-down groove and relentless, doubled-up claps, it also features mysterious synth builds. Similarly atmospheric sounds inhabit Skjöld's "Stearic Acid" - but on this occasion, they are woven into a stripped back, percussive groove. Favouring a more abrasive direction, ANNĒ's "Keinlicht" revolves around a visceral rhythm and ominous synth lines, echoing vintage Steve Bicknell.

Drawing from their collective experiences on labels like ANAOH and Pushmann's N&N, the duo delivers The Tribalism - four tracks of undeniable tribal techno - no joke. For fans of 2000s James Ruskin, Mark Broom and of course Robert Hood, there's touches inspirations from label like NON Series and the funkier side Token too. With some gospel inspirations making their way into 04, 01 runs the gauntlet with its looped vocal cut and tonal percussion next to the tripped out and druggy haze of 02, with 03 going big room, dubby and looped up. Review: Having recently appeared on the Federation Of Rytm III compilation, Sonic Propaganda now deliver a full EP for Mutual Rytm. While the tempo and intensity levels position it at the harder end of techno, Native nonetheless draws on a diverse range of influences. The title track is a frenetic tribal track, while on "Soul Pressure", Sonic Propaganda deploy the kind of menacing bass and firing percussion last heard on the Waveform Transmissions series. "Terminal" is a deep cut, with dramatic synths sweeping over a rolling, tribal groove. While "Basic Path" is more stripped back, the duo ensure it has a soulful edge thanks to the use of repetitive vocal samples. The atmospheric, Sterac-style roller that is "Body Empire" completes the release.

Review: Never let it be said that Robert Hood is letting his listeners languish in a sonic comfort zone. The veteran producer's latest EP under his own name starts with a jolt, as the title track deploys pounding, industrial drums and a chain metal rhythm. "Pathetic" is just as intense. Based on a relentless groove, it sees Hood deploy a spiralling chord sequence that filters its way to a spine-tingling finale. "Outsider" is based on a similar premise, but this time hollowed out drums support a niggling build. This release effortlessly shatters the assumption that Hood would continue to focus on the less abrasive, house-influenced Floorplan project.

Review: Veteran producer Dolby D teams up with emerging artist MarAxe for a release that is anything but formulaic. "Subdue" is set to a high pace -one that the rest of the EP emulates. However, despite the fast tempo, its rhythm is lithe, with subtle filtered builds combined with dense percussion. "Expel" is also powered by a relentless groove and percussive elements. On this occasion, the percussion alternates between delicate shards and powerful snare rolls that provide the back drop for a ponderous vocal sample. The title track maintains this fast tempo, but the sound takes a darker turn. Sheet metal riffs are fused with rattling hi hats , making for a furious finale.

Review: Conrad Van Orton drops a diverse, dance floor-focused release for Emerald. The title track is led by a dense, swaggering rhythm and features brooding chords. It makes for an intense, peak-time affair. Both "Overcloud" and "Power Nap" follow a similar approach, but they see Van Orton deploys swirling filters and musical hooks. While these elements are combined with heads down rhythms, they do make for deeper tracks. Spiralling acid lines are to the fore on "Use It Wisely", while Van Orton opts for a different approach with "Wishful Thinking". More stripped back than the other contributions, it's a murky, tribal techno workout.

Review: Next up on Binary Cells is Klint with this hard-hitting release. The pounding, industrial rhythm of "Atlas" gets Son Heros off to an intense start. There is no let-up on "Mental 89", where Klint drops a dense, banging track. While the title track integrates trancey riffs with robust tribal drums, it is still primed for the dance floor. On "Supervision", Klint continues this approach as a surging bass ripples its way through a looped groove. There are some exceptions to the prevailing intensity: "Requiem RK" is a heads-down ebm workout, while "Cinq Sections" is a dub-influenced track, but one that still packs quite a punch.

Review: Twenty-three years since he initially released Dispatches on his own Geophone imprint, Mike Parker's debut album gets a timely reissue on Field. Listening to his debut album is a reminder of how it remains the corner stone for much contemporary techno. Parker's use of sparse rhythms is audible throughout, as is the cavernous, at times all-encompassing sound scapes he designed. While there are references to some previous techno canons - a hint of Plastikman acid in places, or echoes of Sahko's repetition - Dispatches really is in a field of its own. That it manages to still sound not just relevant but also revelatory is testament to Parker's unique talent.

"Occult" is based on a lean, pulsating rhythm that supports dreamy chords and a repetitive vocal sample, while "Khmera" is more insistent. Red Rooms' signature sound is on full display throughout the album. Clandestine sonic textures and short, infectious melodies intertwine with the powerful, locked-in grooves that propel each track forward. The album boasts several tracks primed to ignite dance floors. "No Turning Back" is a prime example, with its rave-ready stabs and relentless energy. Review: Following his recent outing on Planet Rhythm, Gustavo Bassani delivers this killer four-tracker for Truncate. "Liquid Cave" is a fast-paced, distinctive affair. Resounding to a combination of funk bass and stripped back drums, it is sure to stand out from the slew of high-tempo tracks. "Basement Tool" is a chord-heavy track, with a looped vocal adding an extra layer of drama. On "Synthesize", a steely, angular rhythm prevails- and its grainy undercurrent is offset somewhat by a pitched down vocal sample. Remaining in a similar field is "Hip Stretch". Bassani delivers a niggling, bubbling groove that acts as the basis for raw, analogue builds and drops.

Review: Ostensibly a response to techno being 'in such a sorry and predictable state', Full Pupp's latest compilation goes off in a number of wonderfully captivating tangents. Label owner Prins Thomas' "Mere Apokalypso" is a tripped-out groove, while his take on Synk's "Tool Mix" is an acid-laced chugger. In contrast, JaddajaddaPlay's "Bird No Bird" goes down a percussive route. Despite the title, techno does make an appearance. Blackbelt Engh Rhythm Combo's "Frydenlyn" is a rolling tribal affair, while trance influences bubble to the surface on Christian Engh's dubbed out "Khonsu" and Karolinski's high-paced, melodic "Slutt A Mase Eg Har Ikkje Spelt Pa Ei Veke".

Review: KR celebrates its fifth birthday with this diverse techno compilation. KR050 gets off to a frenetic start with Clotur's "M33, a peak-time track that resonates to building acid and a firing, angular rhythm. Similar energy levels also fuel the grainy techno of Joton's "Cyber Machinery" and Roll Dann's contribution - the chord-heavy banger that is "Suga Nit White". But it's not all peak-time tracks. Benales looks to Detroit for inspiration to deliver the raw minimalism of "Undo", while a more contemporary take on stripped back dance music prevails on the murky "Lost In The Loop" by KUSS. And Metapattern's "25 Min" is a distinctive, ebm-inspired jam.

Review: Seven years after Bitter Music, Perc returns with his fourth studio album. The Cut Off is bookended with the gentle ambience of "Can You Imagine" and the droning "Calcify"- and includes other divergences like the jittery electronic soundtrack on "Heartbeat Popper". "Milk Snatchers Return" also presents another unexpected turn as Perc fuses atmospheric synths with dense tribal drums. But his focus soon turns to this signature sound. The sharp percussive shapes of "Static", which features Sissel Wincent on vocals, is an industrial techno anthem in waiting. And the intense acid of "Cold Snap" and the pounding kicks and heads-down rhythm on "Full Goblin" are reminders that few producers do forward-looking, impactful techno as well as Perc.

Review: Straddling the grey zone where techno, garage and bass all intermingle is KEEFE's All Night. The title track is a good example of how this approach plays out. Over an intense, rolling techno groove, KEEFE weaves in repetitive vocal samples and whooshing filters. "Blue Calm" follows a similar trajectory - on this occasion, a wailing diva brings her uplifting tones to an intense, raw groove. "Drop Dat" veers more towards garage, thanks to the use of an ominous bass and skipping drums. This influence is also audible on "I Was There", but this time the sound is more soulful, as a stepping groove and a bruising low end underpin soulful vocals.

Review: The second instalment of Len Faki's remixes see the storied techno producer tap his favourite artists to re-interpret his work. Luke Slater's Deep Heat take on "Shri Yantra" is redolent of his classic Planetary Assault Systems work, with firing percussion and dramatic break downs to the fore. In contrast, Amotik's version of "Make Me Scream" follows a heads-down approach, with haunting vocals wrapped into a bleep-heavy, rolling groove. In contrast, ANNA's remix of "Hymn" is a tranced out, big room track. At the other end of the spectrum, Modeselektor's interpretation of "Don't Be Stupid Day" is a moody electro stepper, led by waves of menacing low end.
