Review: On his first album for over a decade, Ron Trent has chosen to showcase his undoubted skills as a producer and musician, offering up a collaboration-heavy set that pairs his usual warming electronics and hand percussion with band-style instrumentation (bass, drums, guitars, piano and more) and immersive, atmospheric vibe. The album was inspired by electronic/acoustic fusions of the early '80s and designed for home listening, so what you get is an inspired set of luscious downtempo cuts made in cahoots with the likes of Lars Barktkuhn, ambient hero Gigi Masin, legendary violinist Jean-Luc Ponty (on the incredible 'Sphere') and Alex Malheiros and Ivan Conti of Azymuth. Review: Crazy P drop their ninth studio album in a 23-year career. One of these days, they'll surprise us - either by dropping a thrash metal album, or just by making a record that isn't very good - but that day's still some way off, and for now the Manc trio are happy doing what they do best. And let's be honest, they do it better than most! Danielle Moore's voice seems to improve with every passing year, and if you've ever liked a Crazy P album it's hard to imagine you wouldn't like this one. Lyrically there's a new political edge, but it's the sumptuous, shimmering disco-Balearic grooves that'll win you over first.

Review: A quarter of a century has passed since the surge in disco-fired funky house from France led to the dancefloor dominance of "French touch" records. This EP from the previously little-known Jac Solaire was clearly inspired by that sound, though there's enough 21st century musical tricks to think of it as an update to the style rather than a tribute. We get three different takes on lead cut 'Volaris': an original mix that blends fresh, saucer-eyed vocals and bright-and-breezy disco instrumentation with a typically thickset French touch groove; a classic, Cassisus style rework from Alex Virgo, and a more heavily cut-up, stab-happy take from No-e that reminded us of DJ Sneak. Bonus cut 'Into The Night', meanwhile, could well end up being this year's 'Music Sounds Better With You'.
