Review: "Ain't nothing wrong with disco, it goes along with funk!" So sang Cameo on 1979's 'Energy', which gets reworked by the mysterious The Message here as 'It Takes Me So High' - fine sentiments, we're sure you'll agree, and a fine way to kick off this latest three-track re-edit slab from Furious Mandrill. Elsewhere on the EP, 'Give It Up' draws on an unidentified boogie-era cut with a male vocal and pianos that recall Patrice Rushen's 'Haven't You Heard', while the bold n' brassy 'Love In The Desert' reworks Rie Murakami's obscure Japanese disco gem 'Sahara' from 1984. Good stuff.

Review: Crosstown Rebels boss Damian Lazarus seems to be mellowing with age - or at least getting more artistically adventurous. This follow-up to his 2009 debut, Smoke The Monster Out, was co-produced by Simian Mobile Disco's James Ford in LA. London and Mexico, with the assistance of an impressive cast of musicians from around the world. While rooted in the kind of tactile house and techno most associated with the evergreen hipster, Message From The Other Side is impressively psychedelic, otherworldly and stargazing in outlook. The album's woozy, horizontal appeal is therefore enhanced by Lazarus and Ford's use of Indian instrumentation, African percussion and impeccable keys-work from American jazz pianist Eric Lewis.

Review: It's always exciting to see a new sonic adventure land from the Exit crew, who this time welcome borderlandstate_the best kisser in l.a for four tracks of digital destruction. We begin with the uber glitchy electronic designs of 'Direct Message', utilizing bit crushers and clicky percussion for a truly unique sonic experience, before dives into a groovy 2-step arrangement, again topped with lazer-like displays of juice. From here 'Cas_9' then arrives for a crunchy waltz through swampy synth slaps and organic drum sounds, before 'Arena4' gives us a soundscape-driven outro, focussing on up-tempo post-d&B designs to round off with the EP with some apocalyptic finesse.

Review: Man of the moment Archie Hamilton (FUSE London) is hot off some great remixes for the likes of Crosstown Rebels, Visionquest and Lazare Hoche and continues on with his winning streak of hot releases here. This new one comes courtesy of his very own Moscow label named "Make A Difference". This collaboration with New York City house music royalty Mr. V (Sole Channel Music) is a great meeting of creative minds, that sees his unmistakable vocal delivery accompanying yet another of Hamilton's rolling and funked-up tech house grooves - this one is sure to burn up the dancefloor. There are a bunch of reworks featured in addition: a handy acapella for those you wanting more of Victor Font's lovely vox, a dub mix for those of you who aren't and if that was not enough - there's a wicked VIP mix for your value.
