Review: With this year's Miami Music Week fast approaching, UK bigwigs Toolroom kick off 2018 with the first in this year's Underground series; Introducing some fresh faces and new producers to the tracklist, 'Miami Underground' explores much more eclectic genres than previously but rest assured that they deliver all the regular surefire quality in tech-house and house. Highlights here include: the euphoric "The Phoenix Part 1" by the controversial Marquis Hawkes, the deep down and dirty "Paradise" by Patrick Topping (with the one and only Idris Elba!), "Day One" by Primitive TRust which gets a stellar remix by BRSTL homegirl Shanti Celeste and the surprising addition of industrialist Perc with his stomper "Rat Run" getting a groove injection by Matrixxman. Completing the bundle are two expertly crafted full length mixes.
Review: Mark Knight & Co. are straight up with their latest title - but considering their current 15th birthday celebrations, these guys can do whatever they want - they hardly do wrong anyway! House, Tech House, Techno Vol 2 does exactly what is says on the tin with a whopping 62 tracks and three continuous mixes - each dedicated to said subgenre. From that massive remix of Fatboy Slim's "Right Here, Right Now" by current scene favourites CamelPhat, Saved main man Nic Fanciulli's collaboration with Damon Albarn on "Saying" (Kolsch remix), label head honcho Knight himself steps up to deliver the pumping and white noise filled "We Get High From The Music" (feat Mr V) and the inimitable Danny Howells is always welcome - particularly with a track as electrifying as the recently released "Isolar".
Review: This latest bumper-packed compilation from the mighty CR2 label is pretty much all you'll need to get yout through this summer season, if not the whole year! Yep the classic imprint has done it again, rounding up Todd Terry, label boss Mark Brown and the CR2 Allstars to each deliver sizzling summery mixes with a combined tracklist of 57 tunes! A selection of the many highlights includes the melancholy Italo disco vibes of "Epiphany (Copy Paste Soul mix)" by The Golden Boy, the nasty low-down jacker "Starfucker" by Audion, the techno lazer funk jam "Funky Tees(Tee's Freeze mix)" by Todd Terry himself and and the moody trance of Superpitcher's DJ Hell rework, "Je Regrette Everything".
