Review: Poker Flat's A&Ring is the envy of most labels and listening to Virtual Mood, it sounds like they have made another astute decision. The work of a Swiss production duo, it spans many of the moods and sounds that Steve Bug's label is known for. The title track is all rickety rhythms, breathless 'cha cha cha' vocal samples and eventually, a mournful chord sequence. "Shape" sees the pair opt for a more musical approach; over an ominous, moody bass, tranced out synths sweep in like rain clouds. Finally, there's "Drop It", which visits Poker Flat's interest in all things Chicago, as a pitch-bent vocal snatch is set to dry, jacking rhythm.
