Review: Dossa & Locuzzed are the funk duo from Austria and if you've ever caught their 'Funky Fridays' podcast series, you'll know that these two don't mess about when it comes to funkiness. Their talent comes in an ability to synthesise the original funk sound with the synth-based badassery of 21st Century D&B, an ability that's on full display here. 'Off Course' is the highlight, a movement-packed and deeply energetic number which cleverly uses space to inject a serious amount of funk into the arrangement. The flip is similar but darker, with a more full-throttled approach to getting people moving.

Review: 2019 has been another exceptional year for drum & bass albums and Dossa & Locuzzed's three-years-in-the-making debut is a great example of this. One of Viper's most diverse and full spectrum spanning acts right now, their style and skills are showcased in glorious technicolour over 14 tracks. From the silky synths and soulful vocals of the opener "Blinded" to the immense warmth and funk of the closing finale "Sandbox", the album leaves no sonic stone unturned as the Austrian duo really dig deep into their sound and influences. Highlights include the already massive bassline thumper "Get Nasty", the big disco walloper "Tha Bird" (with the one and only DK Marky) and the wriggling futuristic groove workout "Brainfunk"... And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Don't sleep on this, it's the sound of Dossa & Locuzzed maturing from bangersmiths to full album artists, and they're doing it in style!

Review: Viper are a big, bad and dangerous label and their 2021 annual is an expression of what makes their output so potent. This whole LP is unafraid to be dancefloor heaviness in an approachable sense, and the whole extended roster has turned up, from label boss Futurebound to Murdock, Blaine Stranger and more. 'Dragon' by the latter is especially good, as a foghorn influenced bass node curls its tendrils amidst a a synthy forest of organic ambience and excellent production. Cyantific and Bl4ck Crowz also impress on 'Waiting 4 U', which stomps its feet in a petulance that's less childish and more chidingly sick, a true festival anthem for sure. The album is a must-listen for all those who rate the Viper side of drum & bass.
