Review: Super Weird Substance have just put out an electro-funk gem, World Gone Crazy, by Reverend Cleve Freckleton. It was an old demo rediscovered by Greg Wilson when looking for new material for his proteges, The Reynolds. Now Wilson reveals the material he did choose for these young Seacombe-based twins - a cover of Bessie Banks' Northern Soul anthem "Don't You Worry Baby The Best Is Yet To Come". The result is an expertly produced slice of shimmering 70s-style disco funk that could have easily been produced 40 years ago (in a good way).

Review: Now Dam Swindle's Heist Recordings imprint is a decade old, the Dutch duo is starting to get nostalgic. We can expect a few 'Heist Classics' EPs in the months and years ahead as they raid the label's vaults for inspiration. There's much to savour on volume one, which fittingly begins with one of the pair's best-loved tunes - the now 10-year-old dusty deep house gem that is 'The Breakup'. Elsewhere, there's a chance to savour the peak-time-ready classic house rush of Detroit crew Scan 7's 'The Best Is Yet To Come', a slab of hazy sample-house hedonism from Fouk (the jazz-flecked deep house bounce of 'Kill Frenzy'), a subtly disco-fired workout from Demuir ('Werq. Feel. Gruv. Vogue'), and a lesser-known slab of deep piano-house loveliness from Adriyano ('Me And You And Her').

Review: It's been a while since Roman Flugel last delivered an album, and that was the all-ambient Themes I-XIII in 2018. Eating Darkness, the German veteran's fifth solo full-length, is therefore well overdue. It's a quietly confident and undeniably entertaining affair, with the former Alter Ego man smartly sashaying between evocative IDM ('Magic Briefcase', 'The Best is Yet To Come', the Autechre-ish 'Eating Darkness'), druggy slo-mo fare ('Chemicals'), raw new wave throb-jobs ('Wow'), acid-flecked jack-tracks ('Jocks & Freaks'), hypnotic late night minimal techno ('Cluttered Homes'), drowsy downtempo cheeriness ('Locked'), beautiful ambient synth-scapes ('Charles') and revivalist Euro-disco pump ('D.I.S.C.O'). Throughout, Flugel reaches for vintage analogue and modular synthesizer sounds, giving the album a distinctively timeless feel.
