Review: London's Izo Fitzroy has already had her work compared to the likes of Etta James and Dr John, and that's before her album has even dropped! Here she gives us a glimpse of what that LP might sound like with this one-off teaser single, Reckoning. Arranged by Dr Rubberfunk, the track is an impressive collaboration, featuring some hauntingly beautiful layers of soulful, bluesy and authentic vocals, set upon a laconic guitar groove and rolling backbeat.
Review: Already compared to many greats (Janis Joplin, Etta James and Dr John), Londoner Izo Fitzroy has been slowly drip-feeding us tracks from her long awaited album...since last July! Well the wait is over as Jalapeno proudly present her Skyline EP. She has already received much praise for her unfaltering message of empowerment and survival and now over these (Dr Rubberfunk-produced) 12 tracks we can really hear what the fuss is about. Fitzroy collaborated with all sorts of musicians that she met in Southern American dive bars some years ago and the results are contained here in all their whiskey stained glory!
Review: The clue is in the title here as Brighton-based funk label Jalepeno have rounded up fifteen of the best soul sister cuts from their mighty catalogue. Boasting a mix of old and new, and spanning quite a few different styles too, this compilation couldn't have come soon enough. Some of the many highlights featured include the powerful and bluesy soul-bearing opener, "Reckoning" by Iro FitzRoy, the candy floss tones of Berenice Van Leer on the 80s-tastic "My Mind' Made Up" by Kraak & Smaak and the muscular harmonies of Farina Miss on Featurecast's "Ego Tripping".
