Review: Over the last two decades, countless produdcers have sampled or remixed Marlena Shaw's "Woman of the Ghetto", with St Germain famously using it as the basis for jazz-house classic "Rose Rouge". Only last month, it was re-shaped into a chunk of Balearic hip-hop bliss by Akshin Alizadeh on a fine 7-inch single. Now, Polish big guns Catz 'n' Dogz get their chance to re-imagine it for 21st century house dancefloors. The main "Remix" that kicks off proceedings is particularly potent, as the long-serving duo lace snippets of Shaw's vocal over a jaunty but driving, stab-heavy groove before unleashing an avalanche of mind-altering acid lines. The alternative "Beat Mix", which as the name suggests is all about densely layered percussion and sweat-soaked peak-time fun, is also superb.

Review: For their latest sneaky dancefloor assault, serial scalpel bandits Gazeebo look to DJ Raw Sugar for inspiration. He duly delivers, offering up a tasteful "Redub" of Marlena Shaw's much-played (and much-sampled) "Woman Of The Ghetto". It's a subtle transformation, adding some nice electronics and dubby deep house swing to the original groove. If you dig the Marathon Men material on GAMM, this will be right up your alley. Hotbox and Gazeebo are also on remix duty; the latter lays down a Balearic-ish interpretation that dispatches with much of the charm of the original, while the former go all touchy-feely deep house with solid results.
