Review: Half-Mauritian, half-English producer Mo Kolours is an intriguing proposition. Sitting somewhere between off-kilter instrumental hip-hop, glitchy dub, live electronica and psychedelic tropical grooves, his previous EPs have earned heavy rotation from the likes of Gilles Peterson and Hot Chip man Joe Goddard. This eponymous debut album is as eccentric and hard-to-place as you'd expect, sounding in turns comfortingly soulful, strangely dubbed-out, heavily percussive (the booming "Afro Quarters"), surprisingly sweet (the odd "Little Dog"), pleasingly wonky and plain old eccentric ("Straight Ruk"). Throughout, it's constantly entertaining and deliciously inventive. Don't sleep on this one.
