Review: Little is known about obscure Seattle combo Mr Clean & The Cleansers, other than that they release one single, "Karate", on a label called Camelot sometime in the mid 1960s. The single has previously been included on a couple of similarly obscure CD compilations put together by crate digging DJs, but this is the first time it has been given a worldwide release on digital. "Karate (Part 1)" sets the tone, delivering a fiendishly fuzzy, martial arts themed chunk of Detroit style seemingly inspired by Stevie Wonder classic "Uptight". "Part 2" version is a little looser, with improvised, freestyle vocals and even more righteous horn lines.

Review: What more could we ask for eh? Roska and Serocee link up once again, this time for a dancehall delight entitled 'Intro', seeing Roska expand his production range yet again into a slower yet incredibly impactful bashment design. Serocee arrives with the perfect vocal for this one, providing a super rhythmic line which brings the whole track to life. Now, in addition to this, Zed Bias had to get involved, providing a sumptuous UKG flip of the original track, throwing Serocee's vocal into an autotune unit with some incredible results. Both versions of the track are instant killers in our opinion, adding two more crackers to the long list of RKAS bangers!

Review: Guillermo Gonzalez continues to churn out the hits at a furious rate. This tasty EP on Disco Fruit follows two other missives last month (one EP on Empire Studio, the other on Poetry in Motion) and marks the Hotmood man's sixth release of 2018. He begins with the loose and undulating, Herb Alpert-goes-house warmth of "Let's Ride", before turning a chunky Latino roller into a weighty slab of bass-heavy mid-tempo house on EP standout "Mr Funkyman". Elsewhere, "My Disco Collection" sees him re-cast an obscure disco-funk cut as a rolling disco-house loop jam, while "Clean Cuts" is a subtly beefed up take on a sweet and sultry soul cut from the 1960s.

Review: This is one of those rare instances where the title of a record is almost longer than the review - not necessarily a bad thing, given that said title has already pretty much described said record perfectly! But in case it wasn't clear, what we have here is a collection of library tracks - music originally made for use in film, TV and advertising - inna funk, jazz and soul kinda vein. Think Pearl & Dean, 70s TV themes and moody 60s spy thrillers... which you probably were, because this is an album that sounds exactly like you'd expect it to. But with 30 tracks to choose from - some of which are a whole three or four minutes long! - there's much for all you beatniks, jazzbos and lounge lizards to enjoy here.

Review: If you like your deep house served with a hefty dose of funk and a twist of jazz, then these two tracks from Mexican producer Hotmood should be right up your street. The vaguely Sneak-y title track is as joyous an excursion into the heart of jazz piano riffery as you'll hear all week, its virtuoso ivory licks sitting atop smooth-rollin' house beats and augmented by periodic "yes Mr Funkyman!" vocal shouts. The accompanying 'Clean Cuts' is a sparser affair that sports snatches of southern soul-style male vocal - it's plenty playable but perhaps one for the warm-up, whereas 'Mr Funkyman' has "peaktime" written all over it.

Review: Serbia's Disco Fruit bring us a digital collection of tracks that were (mostly) previously only available on wax. Label boss Tonbe supplies four of 'em, and with most of the rest coming from equally familiar names such as Dr Packer, Hotmood, Mitiko and Loshmi, you know the bar's set high! Stylistically, the album ranges from authentic-sounding low-slung funkers like Hotmood's 'Let's Ride' and Tonbe's 'Gem Picker' to the breezy uptempo soul of 84Bit's 'Mamma Jamm' and the boogie nouveau of Dr Packer & Loshmi's 'In Case Of Emergency', while special shout-outs go to Evil Smarty, who almost out-Fatbacks Fatback, and to Mitiko's excellent reworking of the mighty Janet.
