Review: Following on from the first series of remixes from Adam Port and Danny Daze, the German label has commissioned more reshapes of tracks from Terrranova's recent album. Karl Friedrich's take on "Skin & Bones" sends the original track into a tranced out, glacial techno affair, with Lydmoor & Bon Homme's vocals submerged beneath the frosty chords. Terranova founder Fetisch delivers a radically different take on "Kepler 186F"; rave stabs fire in like a salvo of tracer bullets and shrieking vocals wail over the tough, warped rhythmic backing. Finally, in a neat cyclical act, UK hip-hop act the Stereo MCs, who have known Terranova since the early 90s, deliver a cubby break beat version of "Twisted Souls".

Review: Legends of German electronica Terranova are back and showcasing their ever evolving style again for Kompakt. Munich Machine himself DJ Hell lends a remix to "Kepler 186F" which is a dark melodic journey track that will no doubt fit in with the current status quo of popular dance music with its humming bassline, pulsating 'whoops' and sharp synth leads. The Kepler remix of "Uchu No Inu" sounds like a dark version of Miami legends Murk or Funky Green Dogs: an anthem for the black beach perhaps? There's an acappella of it too which despite what it may seem, focuses on the sinister sound design of the track and will make an experimental DJ tool or one hell of a creepy intro track!

Review: As sure as night follows day, every year Kompakt releases an installment of the Total series. Now at its sixteenth volume, the compilation still manages to bring together the best bits from the Cologne label's catalogue. From the dreamy textures and spiky off rhythms of Kaytlin Aurelia Smith's take on The Field's "Reflecting Lights" to the woozy vocals and pitter pattering break beats on Weval's "I Donat Need It" to the stripped back but evocative house of Patrice Baumel's take on Blond:ish's "Endless Games" and the throbbing techno reshape of Coma's "Lora", the full range of the Kompakt emotional spectrum is audible here.
