Rub Anotha Dub
Rub Anotha Dub - (6:55) 126 BPM
Review: "Rub Anotha Dub" is the second single from Walker & Royce's upcoming album entitled Self Help. Featuring lyrics describing the joys of rave land from the one and only Green Velvet (don't worry they're not as cynical as classics "Flash" or "La La Land") they will have you singing along while your feet get busy to Walker & Royce's signature sound of beats, bass and melody. New York City's Sam Walker & Gavin Royce have been producing their emotive, subdued and groove heavy house since 2011 and will play at Dirtybird's annual Campout in 2017.

Review: Following on from releases on Relief and Crosstown Rebels, Samuel Walker and Gavin Royce have selected Dirtybird as the platform for their debut album. The US pair are sure to surprise with the gentle electronics of opening track "Sunday" and "Role Models", which sees them collaborate with OnCue to deliver a catchy electronic pop track, albeit one that is tethered in grimy bass. However "Best Track Ever" sees them revert to type and adopt the general approach of Claude Von Stroke's label with its cut-up vocals and bleeps bass tones. That said, their penchant for catchy hooks and pop influences is never too far away here and "My Own Thang", which features Sophiegrophy on vocals, is a bubbling, bouncy track, led by insistent, catchy vocals.

Review: Dirtybird has commissioned remixes of tracks from Walker & Royce's 2017 debut album - and the results are mind-blowing. Jon Tejada, best known for his deep, minimal techno work on Palette and Poker Flat, drops two takes on "My Own Thang". The first, which still features Sophiegrophy's rhymes, is a busy but distinctive workout, while the US producer's elastic bass and spacious drum programming really come to the fore on the dub version. In contrast, Justin Martin & Ardalan's dub take on "Can You Pass That?" is more in keeping with the Dirtybird style, as psychedelic bass tones and a grinding rhythm makes for a wild ride. Walker & Royce's own take on "Role Models" is also distinctive, with a spaced out acid line underpinning the geeky vocals.
