Review: Midnight Riot's compilations are not only uniformly action-packed, but also offer great value for money. The latest edition in the imprint's ongoing "Disco Made Me Do It" series offers up no less than 25 tried-and-tested cuts to pep up your DJ sets. In keeping with the label's party-starting ethos, there's a good mix of disco-fired house cuts (see Michael Gray's "24/7 People"), revivalist disco-boogie (Qwestlife's remix of Nick Reach Up's "Dreaming"), filter-sporting boogie-house (Ladies On Mars), top-notch disco re-edits (Twism's "What I Know"), Tiger & Woods style loop jams (Motte's "Darkroom Boogie") and party-staring 21st century disco-funk ("Chance" by Rees).
Review: If you like your jungle then this release should be right up your street, because it's essentially six tracks of straight up jungle heat. Our personal favourite is Pablo G's remix of J.O.E's 'What You Gonna Do', which has a wicked drop that comes off the back of a load of really soulful sampling work. It has proper old school vibes all over it and the whole arrangement works really well. Every other track is pretty much just as good, with wobbling sines, big old reece basses and a truckload of stuttering breaksy magic, Oooh yeah!
Review: Israeli tech house hero Guy Gerber returns on his esteemed Rumors imprint with remixes of his latest hit "What To Do" that caused a hot fuss earlier this year. The Los Angeles based live performer here receives remixes from Berliner &ME giving the track the deep and seductive Keinemusik style of treatment, while the Chicago underground hero DJ Jes also steps in to deliver a tough and swing fuelled deep house rendition.
Review: It feels like Mofaux has all the right ingredients to become a true household name for U Wot Blud, but also to satisfy the needs of any curious bass wonderer circling our charts. "Do What U Want" is a monstrous slice of hyper-space bass backed by an equally interstellar fusion of hybrid house beats, while "Monster Bass" itself drops a load of low frequencies in quick succession that sound suspiciously like tech-house to us, but the real treat comes through the wavy, grime-ridden tonalities of "Serious", a truly UK kind of banger that dips and dives out of bass lines like its 2003.
