Review: Roger Semsroth aka Sleeparchive is one of the world's most singular techno artists, focused on creating looped, repetitive tracks that take influence from archetypal minimalists like the Sahko label. On Trust, his latest long player, Semsroth opts for a more visceral approach. The grated drums of "Needle" comes across like Rob Hood at his most intense, while on peak time rollers such as "Concrete" and "Dust", the Berlin producer reveals shades of Jeff Mills during his looped Purposemaker period. "Leave" sees Sleeparchive venture into deeper territories as snappy drums support a melodic progression, but it's only a temporary divergence and on "Fence", he's back to the raw, looped techno that defines most of Trust.

Review: As is the case with previous EPs, the latest collaboration between Pfirter and Oliver Rosemann is named after a letter in the Greek alphabet. "Epsilon 1" is a dense track, with looped tones and relentless percussion unfolding over a jacking rhythm. The second "Epsilon" is more intense, as ominous waves build and build over resonating kicks. The release also features two stellar remixes. Lakej's take on "Epsilon 1" resounds to high-pitched percussive slivers and a hammering metallic rhythm. Meanwhile, seminal producer Sleeparchive turns "Epsilon 2" into a relentless Millsian workout, led by nickel plated kicks and foreboding, filtered drops.

Review: This is Mord's most ambitious venture to date, with a box set of seven records laying out the Dutch imprint's tough techno agenda. Regulars like UVB and Radial set the tone, with the former dropping brutish kicks and jarring riffs on "Someone Calling Cut" and Radial veering into a pumping direction on "Cru".Label owner Bas Mooy moves the compilation towards a more streamlined approach with the dense, linear Klockworks-like "Owl In Daylight", but Herdersmat also shows that the label has succeeded in attracting some heavyweight international talent; Eomac's "Phisk" is a disorienting rave-flecked stepper and Sleeparchive drops the bleep-heavy bomb that is "Evicted".

Review: Giving the vast and slightly daunting discography the Downwards label has built up since its foundation by Karl 'Regis' O'Connor and Peter 'Female' Sutton in 1993, it makes for little surprise that this 20th anniversary compilation does not opt for the traditional 'greatest hits' route. Of course that wouldn't be the Downwards way either, such is their mischievously contrary nature. Instead this nine-track compilation opts to slip in a few rare curios from the label's early years alongside a selection of tracks from its current roster. O'Connor naturally features heavily; there's an unreleased Substance remix of a track from his debut LP, a track recorded along with Sutton under the rarely used Mark Farmer alias and his more recent Concrete Fence project with Russell Haswell features too, getting a typically loopy Sleeparchive remix. For long term Downwards fanatics it will be the inclusion of tracks from Antonym and Fret (aka ex Napalm Death drummer Mick Harris) that will really excite - with the latter's "Untitled" sounding particularly ahead of it's time. Music from OAKE, Kerridge and newcomers Talker hints at Downwards future.

Review: To accompany Heiko Hoffmann's photography book of the same name, Above Board has compiled some of the best tracks to feature in Berlin clubs from the early 90s to nowadays. No Photos features the dramatic Detroit techno of 3MB's "The 4th Quarter" , while Mijk van Dijk and Tanith's 9-10-Boy project and Alec Empire's "SuEcide" capture the wide eyed rave of the early 90s. The compilation also features signature Berlin techno tracks - ss any record more closely linked to Hardwax/Berghain than the Maurizio Remix of Vainqueur's "Lyot"? -while the hypnotic bleeps of Sleeparchive's "Elephant Island" is a true minimal classic. Like the book, No Photos is expertly curated and executed.

Review: It's been a busy year for Belgian imprint Token, with killer EPs coming from Rodhad, Xhin, Inigo Kennedy and the impending album from O [Phase]. Ctrls now presents his third EP for the label and matches his Northern Structures studio buddy Lasse Buhl with solo releases this year. As usual Ctrls has his Vermona drum machine cranking full tilt with the two tracks "Modular Framework" and "Displacer", with the latter reworked twice by Sleeparchive who turns it into something a little more stripped back and caustic. The Token techno machine marches on!
