Review: Despite boasting a discography that stretches all the way back to 1994, Italian techno stalwart Sam Paganini has tended to shy away from the full-length format. Zenith is only his third album to date, and his first since the Drumcode-released Satellite in 2014. While largely dancefloor-focused, it's perhaps a little more varied and far-sighted than some may expect. Thrusting but rubbery club techno workouts (see the tribal-tinged "Elevator", moody "Komet" and bombastic "Hypnotise") are joined by more cerebral cuts that variously touch on Pete Namlook style ambient ("Alone"), French Touch synth-pop ("Plastique"), dreamy broken house ("Moonless") and punchy acid-electro ('Frozen").

Review: Originally, the tracks on this expansive full-length by Dutch turntablist-turned-producer DJ Mace were all released as separate EPs under the Fremdkunst pseudonym. It's perhaps surprising, then, that they sit together so well as an album. With a multitude of guests and collaborators in tow, Mace lays down tracks that meld jazz, hip-hop and soul with blunted beats, smoky chords and atmospheric melodies. In the old days, it would have been called trip-hop, but that's perhaps a dirty word nowadays. Either way, if you like your beats crackly, slow, atmospheric and peppered with jazz horns, it's well worth a listen.

Review: Dave Lee's Z Records imprint has always been a reliable source of the sort of grandstanding house, soulful garage and disco-flecked grooves that require strong vocals. Lee, of course, is a past master at this kind of thing, and his 20-plus year career has seen him forge links with many legendary vocalists. This compilation celebrates those 'divas' - there are notable appearances from Taana Gardner, Gwen Guthrie, Thelma Houston, Michele Weeks and Taka Boom - by showcasing some of their best work for Z. There's some great material peppered throughout, from the classic disco-soul of the Sunburst Band's "In The Thick of It" and "Everyday", to the block party electrofunk of Kola Kube's cover of Carly Simon's "Why".

Review: French techno veteran Agoria is back with new single "You're Not Alone" featuring the vocal talents of R&B singer Blase, who has previously worked with LeBron James and Jadakiss. His heart wrenching vocal delivery matches Sebastien Devaud's emotive deep house arrangement which ventures down a much more accessible/pop-inflected route than we are previous used to from the Sapiens boss. Featured here are two heavy hitting remixes, the first by Diynamic chief Solomun who takes the track into epic melodic dancefloor drama territory, while while ascendant British deep house star Aleksandir (Church/Tessellate) gives the track a sunny, swing-fuelled and absolutely uplifting rework.
