Review: Throughout the latter half of the noughties, musical fusionists 7 Samurai made regular appearances on G.A.M.M and Poets Club Recordings, delivering reworks and original tracks that somehow joined the dots between jazz-dance, dub, deep house, soul, hip-hop and Latin beats. Here the duo returns on France's Favorite Recordings with their first new material for well over four years. Flipside "Cosmic Jam", dedicated to Patrick Forge, is arguably the pick of the two tracks, with rich Rhodes riffs and Herbie Hancock style space synths riding a dubby, rolling deep house groove. That said, Alicia Blue Eyez Smith hook-up "Shake It Up" - a loose, twinkling chunk of cosmic disco inspired dub-soul fusion - is pretty darn tasty, too.

Review: Midnight Riot's ongoing 'Disco Made Me Do It' compilation series reaches volume seven. Like its' predecessors, the 20-track set prioritises fun and frolics, blurring the boundaries between disco, electrofunk, nu-disco and house via a mixture of unreleased cuts, high-grade remixes, exclusives and familiar favourites. There's naturally tons to get the blood pumping throughout, with the many highlights including Opolopo's deliciously squelchy, sun-soaked and soulful take on Danny Kane and Princess Freesia's 'I Love The Way You Do', Yam Who's fantastic, early '80s disco style rework of Bazza Ranks and Venessa Jackson's 'Talk Is Cheap', the synth-heavy nu-disco perfection of Sammy Deuce's 'Give Me Love', and the low-slung, party-starting brilliance of Brothers In Arts' 'We Got The Funk', featuring the distinctive vocals of Freakpower's Ashley Slater.

Review: Auckland, New Zealand's own re-edit don Dave Ti, better known to most as DiCE_NZ, returns with two more reworks of vintage tracks. First to go under the scalpel is Carole King's 'I Feel The Earth Move', here reimagined as a sprightly little piano-led dancefloor roller that works surprisingly well! The original source for 'Bang The Club' sadly has this reviewer beat, but whatever its origins, as presented here it's a midtempo groover with treated, drawn-out "ooooh-aah" vox, a cheeky funk bassline and all manner of FX and synth squiggles going on at the top end.
