Review: Steve Miller has been serving up Ibiza-inspired downtempo, chill out and Balearic tracks since the mid 1990s, so you'd expect his new album - titled 'Modern Balearic' in a nod to its contents - to be assured, atmospheric and expertly crafted. He begins via the densely layered ambient dub psychedelia of 'Rubadub', before drifting between stretched-out classic chill-out soundscapes ('Kya'), extra-percussive shroom-house ('Hallucinomat'), dubby nu-disco ('Sugarfoot', the bubbly beauty of 'Natural Causes'), saucer-eyed sunrise deepness ('Tiger Child', 'Bufo'), low-slung deep house haziness ('All I Wanted'), breakbeat-driven Balearic nu-jazz (the sub-heavy excellence of 'One Fine Day'), and acid-flecked, trance-inducing dancefloor bliss ('Big Ship').

Review: The future of Argy has arrived in the Afterlife. With a strong connection to the platform of late with albums and releases like Tataki, Pantheon and Aria next to the collaborative gem Higher Power - Argy has officially arrived. With this album in particular pitched as the artist's magnum opus, New World proves to be a fusion of human emotion inter-mixed with and AI innovation. Going large for those Afterlife sets no doubt, a techno futuristic and modern melodic Argy sends in 14 large scale tracks for the stadium space - ie "No One's Coming" and "Higher Power" - to the bad ass vampire acid in "Wilderness" or Juan Atkins Cyberton reflections in Tibet - Rad!

Review: Steve Miller's Afterlife project is always a welcomed addition to our charts, especially because we deem his output to be the very best in downtempo and chill, often surpassing most other producers who are surrounded by hype. Miller is the truth, and nothing but the truth. Returning to Subatomic with a new LP, String Theory, the producer is clearly in an explorative mood, and his creative guise has taken on a new form thanks to the addition of subtle house in the mix. In fact, this album is a wondrous as any new material we've heard from peeps like ENO, and it's safe to say that Afterlife has a few lessons of his own. We have been mesmerised by this release from start to finish, revealing to us that there is, indeed, a way to merge house, lounge and downtempo without the end product sounding pre-packaged. Warmly recommended!

Review: Steve Miller aka Afterlife is a highly regarded downtempo producer who, for the last few decades, has stuck to his guns in the fickle face of musical fashion (he truly believes that when you die your spirit will float off beyond the clouds and permanently reside in a club chillout room circa 1998...probably). There are ten long jams here to drift off to, two of which feature the mighty Coldcut. Highlights include the gleaming and crisp azure wafts of "Octopus", the shimmering mellow funk of "Frankly My Dear" and the dubby funky drummer shuffle of "The World Is A Ghetto". Peace out.

Review: After a string of acclaimed Eps on Tale of Us' label, Anyma now delivers Genesys, his debut album. Underpinned by his ability to meld techno and progressive sensibilities, it features the dramatic builds and throbbing pulses of "Eternity" and "Welcome to the Opera". Augmenting this aesthetic on both tracks are diva vocals. That's not to suggest that Genesys ever strays into bland pop dance. "Chordial" is a beautiful, blissed out track that is redolent of Booka Shade's classic "Mandarin Girl". Meanwhile, both "Unearth" and "Consciousness" take the melancholic qualities of Eye Q trance, setting them to bubbling club grooves - setting a new standard for modern, melodic dance music.

Review: It's been almost a year since Swiss duo Adriatique presented their much lauded full length effort 'Nude', and this fresh collection of reworks ensure they still get to live on in the (mind the pun!) - Afterlife. While household names such as label bosses Tale of Us (with Mathame), Keinemusik's Rampa and Solumun appear, it's definitely worth mentioning the more underground artists that they reeled in. Berghain resident Kobosil's barrelling and austere rework of "Tachykardia" keeps the sensual vocals of the original, but is absolutely geared for the peak time period of his acclaimed DJ sets at the Berlin institution. Italian trio Agents Of Time (Obscura) deliver a typically epic and entrancing journey into the deeper realms of dancefloor dynamics, and probably most surprising of all is the addition of Frankfurt minimal house legend Isolee who injects "Mystery" with his idiosyncratic style of emotive and glitching minimal funk.

Review: Chasing The Dream is the first artist album on Tale of Us' label and it's an impressive affair. The work of Ukrainian duo Woo York, it stays true to Afterlife's love of melodic electronic music. This is audible on the gentle break beats and warm synth hooks of "More Than a Feeling" and the title track or the windswept "Inception". That said, there is also a darker side to Dream; it first rears its head on the pulsating acid of "Burning With You" before the pair veer into the throbbing, epic "Energy Pulse" and drop tough kicks and the purring bass menace of "Kadastre". However, they really impress on the record's more melodic moments, and the soft-burning hooks of "Rise" shows that Woo York and Afterlife are masters of the art of the melodic.
