Review: Glitterbox knows how to throw a party, and "Glitterbox Archives Vol 4" proves it once again. This EP collects four previously unreleased, dancefloor-tested gems, each offering a unique flavour of the label's signature sound. Kicking off with a bang is The Shapeshifters' "Try My Love (On For Size) (The Rub Dub)". This extended version of the already infectious disco anthem dives deeper into its groove, layering dubby effects and pulsating basslines that will have you moving right away. Next up, Michael Gray and Kelli Sae's "You're Gonna Make Me Dub Somebody Else" takes things down a notch. The "dub" moniker lives up to its name, stripping away some of the original's funk elements and emphasizing the hypnotic rhythm section. Kelli Sae's sultry vocals remain captivating, while the dub treatment creates a more introspective and atmospheric aura. Art Of Tones & Inaya Day's "Give My Love (Piano Dub)" is a revelation. This stripped-down version showcases the song's beautiful piano melody and Inaya Day's powerful vocals in a whole new light. Rounding out the EP is Qwestlife's "Hit It Off (Babert Remix)". Italian house maestro Babert injects his signature energy into the track, transforming it into a driving house anthem. Teni Tinks' vocals are chopped and looped, adding a playful touch to the infectious groove. This one is sure to get the crowd moving and leave them wanting more. A sparkly feast for disco devotees!

Review: Words says it was during a casual hangout at Pikes that the idea for "Tonight" was born. Fast forward, and Athens of the North's resident ensemble, East Coast Love Affair, known as the 'house band,' welcomed the addition of the soulfully talented vocalist Theo Suess for their latest release. Departing from their previous disco-funk sound, "Tonight" takes a different musical journey, blending skittish lo-fi beats, immersive chords, and a lively synth-bass. Hovering between deep house and lo-fi boogie, this track is a genuine gem, featuring Suess's emotive lead vocal. Then the original gets a fantastic twist with a dub mix with fragments of Suess's vocals echoing through a captivating, love-infused instrumental backdrop.

Review: Athens Of The North mainstays East Coast Love Affair return with a chugging nine-minute sonic journey called "I Can't Wait". So slo-mo you might forget your dancing, it features the soulful vocals and lyrical prowess of Shetland-born, Edinburgh-based R&B singer and songwriter Philomenah. Having previously contributed backing vocals for ECLA in the past, Philomenah takes the lead on this epic number, infusing it with a modern-day Onda vibe sprinkled with pop elements. Deeper yet is the House Dub - a secret gem for those intrepid selectors out there working the clubs - with a straight up Bonus Beats sound to get that Masters At Work vibe back in the house. Review: 12 months after dropping their debut as The Church of Love, the tactile and rushing retro-futurist deep house nostalgia of 'F.R.I.E.N.D.S', Hard Ton and Nico Lahs serve up a similarly impressive sequel, 'Rising'. In its original form, the track makes great use of dark, moody Michigan bass, lo-fi machine drums, starry synth stabs (mixed hard right to mangle minds out on the dancefloor) and short, sharp vocal samples. It comes accompanied by four fine remixes, too. Windy City veteran Gene Hunt re-imagines it as a TB-303 powered chunk of lo-fi acid madness; DJ Soch gives it a deeper and more intergalactic flavour; the 'Love in the Morning' mix is a dreamy, sunrise-ready treat; and the Girls of the Internet version is ultra-deep and dubbed-out with a Sprinkles-esque enveloping, immersive vibe.

Review: The Sprechen label's inaugural album release takes listeners on a captivating journey through the celestial realms of electronica and the vibrant, neon-lit streets of South Manchester. "Where Do I Belong?" marks the debut long player by The Thief Of Time, a new studio endeavour from Sprechen founder Chris Massey. Drawing inspiration from a life steeped in clubs, comic books, cult movies, and cosmic adventures, the album weaves a semi-autobiographical narrative through a tapestry of electronic artists and synth-heavy movie scores. Chris Massey's approach to the project is refreshingly unbound, allowing loose ideas to evolve into a collection of songs that pays homage to diverse sonic influences, featuring contributions from Manchester artists like A Certain Ratio, Bay Bryan, Psychederek and NIIX to Love Letters From Space and Allison Rae from Causeway.

Review: Euan Fryer and Nick Moore are the culprits behind East Coast Love Affair, Athens Of The North's in-house covers band, who've been plying us with covers of obscure funk, disco, soul and boogie gems for a few years now. Here, though, they serve up a couple of original cuts, with 'I'm So Glad' a slab of rambunctious, uptempo 70s-style funk/soul with a sultry female vocal, a scorching backbeat and fierce brass, while the comparatively sedate but still pretty pacy 'Miracles' has a more boogie-ish feel musically but is topped by a chorus'd male vocal that conjures visions of big afros, matching velvet tuxedos and ruffle shirts.
