Review: Don't be misled by the title: this is no thrown-together 'greatest hits' package but rather a 40-track label showcase from DJ Hybrid's Audio Addict label, coming complete (if you opt to buy the whole album) with a fast and furious, 52-minute mixed version by Canada's RMS, aka Paul Currie. Tracks come a mixture of relatively new names (Martyn Nytram, Saffire Dubz, Confusious) and more established players (LJ High, Scartip and of course Hybrid himself), while stylistically the album touches on various different D&B sub-genres, but with the emphasis always firmly on cuts that are built to tear up the rave.

Review: As ever, the Bomb Strikes imprint delivers an awesome package to us with this brand new 25 track compilation entitled 'Funk N' Beats Vol. 5', To be honest, it's exactly what it says on the tin as The Allergies head up waves and waves of funkadelic rhythms and crunchy riffs. For us the highlights have to be the futuristic drum processing and subtle percussive movements of 'Loose Gardner' from Flevans, along with the classic breakbeat fusion of 'Fire' remixed by Smoove but originally produced by the Renegades Of Jazz. With the sheer depth of the project it's easy to get lost within the tracklisting, which is always a good sign on a large scale compilation.

Review: The spirit of 90s rave looms large on the ninth instalment of Fjaak's self-titled series. It's audible on "Give It To Me", where dramatic piano keys unfold over a rolling break beat. The addition of breathy vocals pushes the track even farther into hardcore heaven. "Why Are You Here" is more measured. Fjaak again draw on 90s influences, but this time the mood is subdued. Piano keys map out a path for more ponderous vocal samples and dense, sluggish kicks. While it is still dance floor-focused, it has an ethereal, hypnotic feeling - like a restrained take on a Shed side project.

This third volume naturally contains a few inspired revisions of well-known cuts - a riotous take on The Fatback Band's "Do The Bus Stop", an astonishing, dubbed-out version of the Temptations' "Law of the Land" and a soaring, life-affirming rearrangement of Patrice Rushen's "Never Give You Up" included - but also some suitably smart tweaks of lesser-known gems. These include a sublime revision of the APX's '80s gem "Loose Yourself To The Groove" and an insatiable take on Mass Production's "Shante" full of jammed-out electric piano solos and rubbery electric bass.

Review: There is no getting away from the domination that the Time Is Now team have been holding over garage music in the last 18 months, with another heavyweight drop being added to their box with this new collection from Prozak. We open up with the energy drum twists and sizzling reesey low ends of 'Ras', a title track that packs one hell of an introductory punch. We then dive into 'Give It To You', a much more breaks-driven design, alternating between belching bassy drones and skippy drum textures, for a beautiful fusion of old school euphoria and new school precision. Review: Most active from the mid-70s to the mid-80s, Patrice Rushen's discography has spanned jazz, R&B, jazz-funk, soul and pop, but it's the jazz-funk/disco fusions she delivered for Elektra Recordings in the late 70s/early 80s that remain her best-loved work. Here, 15 tracks from that period are gathered together, with favourites like the evergreen 'Forget Me Nots' and 'Haven't You Heard' (reworked in the late 90s by Daddy's Favourite) snuggling up alongside less over-played but equally high-quality cuts like the jazz-funk piano groove that is 'Number One' and the ultra-smooth boogie of 'Feels So Real'. Smoochers like 'Where There Is Love' perhaps sound a little less relevant in 2019, but this is still a very classy collection indeed.

Review: It may have taken eight years, but Joey Negro has finally got round to putting together a follow-up to his superb Backstreet Brit Funk compilation. Like its predecessor, this sequel shines a light on Britain's under-appreciated musical response to the U.S soul, jazz-funk, disco and electro scenes of the late 70s and early 80s. On the whole, the showcased tracks are altogether deeper selections than those found on volume one, meaning obscure highlights come thick and fast. These include - but definitely aren't limited to - the low-slung disco-funk of Rick Clarke's "Potion", the glassy-eyed breeziness of Paradise's "Stop and Think", the footworker-friendly jazz-funk riot of Touchdown's "Ease Your Mind" and the samba-soaked carnival flavours of "Brazeila" by Brazeila. Oh, and a killer dub of Janet Kay's overlooked Brit-boogie classic "Eternally Grateful" that has never before been released.

It boasts 30 reworks, mash-ups, remixes and re-edits gleamed from the prolific imprint's first 50 singles. Naturally, club-ready material comes thick and fast, with a multitude of genres - think swamp funk, disco, dub disco, electrofunk, Italo-disco, hip-hop, reggae and dancehall - and wide variety of tempos represented. Naturally, some of the reworks tend towards the well known, though there are also plenty of rubs of lesser-known gems for those who want to dig deeper than familiar peak-time anthems. Review: Italian edit stallion Belabouche is back and he's brandishing possibly his most funky work yet. "Give It Up" starts things in a celebratory mood with tough kicks connecting with bass twangs and all sewn together nicely with smooth diva vocals, "Disco Strut" is sassier and slower too - just a laid back disco-rock jam, "Coming To You Live" features layers of percussion that form a muscular chassis of a particularly cool vintage disco motor. Finally it's all about some serious space boogie on the dancefloor seducer "Get Up An' Dance".

Since then, the label has gone on to be a leading light on the nu-disco and nu Balearic scenes. Fittingly, this expansive tenth anniversary set was put together by the Glimmers, and features two solo DJ mixes featuring label highlights aplenty. For DJs, the real bonus is the huge selection of unmixed tracks on display, which adeptly showcases the depth and variety of the label's output. Review: Lion Dub have reached a decade of activity. A decade! To put it in perspective, if someone was born the year Liondub started, they're about to enter high school/secondary school. It's a crazy achievement and one matched by the craziness of the music they have on offer to celebrate, a four-part journey through their past, present and future. This instalment is all about their past and it's exemplified best by Serum's VIP of Sound The Alarm, a Liondub classic, which Serum has flipped into a characteristically badboy, stabbing little roller. The vocals float above in a haze of reggae smoke, whilst the beat pulsates below. Awesome stuff.

Review: Go-go has always been one of American dance music's most overlooked genres. Given its roots lie in Washington DC, rather than music metropolises such as New York, Detroit or Chicago, that's perhaps unsurprising. This collection from Joey Negro offers a good starting point for those unfamiliar with the style, showcasing the work of scene stalwarts like Chuck Brown and a string of lesser-known names. It also impressively tracks the development of the sound, from a regional variant of funk to a an electro and hip-hop inspired crossover style in the early 1980s. Even if you've got a passing interest in go-go, it's worth a gander; as usual, Lee has unearthed some brilliant unheralded gems.

Review: Joey Negro once again adopts his long running Sessomato guise for this four track EP of old school house vibes. Both "All Around The World" and "Give It To You" combine samples, percussion, and piano riffs from several classic house tunes to create some guaranteed dancefloor heat. "All Around The World" sounds like it's been lifted straight out of the acid house era, with cut up vocals and rattling handclaps and euphoric piano chords that transport you back in time. "Give It To You" meanwhile combines disco strings with a classic diva vocal, more massive piano chords and a squealing 303 to create some of the best throwback house you'll hear all year.

Review: Command Strange brings us the epic Episode 91 on Fokuz. A nine-track album of pure quality, this one kicks off with the sumptuous "Miracles" - a heavy, purring bassline underpins crisp, crunching drums and a trance-like synthline. He gets experimental and deep in cuts like "Sweet Nightmare" and the ethereal counterpart "Dreams". Tracks like "Song For You" are exercises in unrestrained yearning, with delicate beats, repressed vocal and a sense of pained beauty. Liquid loveliness comes courtesy of "Days Are Cold" and concluding, piano-chiming finale "Give It To Me". Utterly sublime from start to finish.
