Review: Given his credentials and track record, it's unsurprising that original disco and boogie artists are willing to let Joey Negro play around with their biggest hits. His first stab at this kind of multi-track remix, 2014's Remixed With Love, was such a success that he's decided to unleash another swathe of revisions over two vinyl double-packs. This edition features some killer reworks, including a sublime, on-point rearrangement of Gwen McRae's "Keep The Fire Burning" and a rolling, dubbed-out version of Grace Jones' "Pull Up To The Bumper" that rivals Larry Levan's classic remix. The veteran producer also successfully turns Pockets' "Come Go With Me" into a classic soulful house rub, and pushes Thelma Houston's "I'm Here Again" further towards disco anthem territory.

This third volume naturally contains a few inspired revisions of well-known cuts - a riotous take on The Fatback Band's "Do The Bus Stop", an astonishing, dubbed-out version of the Temptations' "Law of the Land" and a soaring, life-affirming rearrangement of Patrice Rushen's "Never Give You Up" included - but also some suitably smart tweaks of lesser-known gems. These include a sublime revision of the APX's '80s gem "Loose Yourself To The Groove" and an insatiable take on Mass Production's "Shante" full of jammed-out electric piano solos and rubbery electric bass.

Review: Given his encyclopedic knowledge of music, you'd expect any compilation put together by Bill Brewster to be full of unlikely gems and lesser-known anthems. That's certainly the case with After Dark, the first in a new DJ-focused series from the Late Night Tales camp. From start to finish, Brewster's selections are spot on, from the lowdown, slo-mo disco oddness of Sheffield chanteuse Marti Caine's "Love The Way You Love Me" and wide-eyed, acid-laden kosmiche of Coober Peder University Band's "Moon Plain", to the dirty electrofunk of Zed Bias's "Koolade" (featuring Toddla T, of all people) and mid'80s percussion fest of Martin Kershaw's "Keep On Pokin". If that wasn't enough, Brewster has also unearthed a decent Jamiroquai record. The wonders never cease.

The fun loving and dancefloor bothering label run by Mooqee & Beatvandals was founded in 2004 and they claim that if you have been to a club since then you will most likely have heard their releases. Well then! Starting off with the low slug funk of A Skillz's "Mooger Fooger (dub mix)", Mooqee & Beatvandals themselves appear with "Back Up" and the legendary Cut La Roc is still at it; "Sunday Morning People" (Herbgrinder remix)" proves that he's still got his finger on the pulse. Review: ISM Records' two Futurism EPs have proved so popular that label boss Yam Who has decided to use them as the inspiration for an expansive compilation of previously unreleased gems. Unlike the label's other popular strand, Midnight Riot, there's always been a bit more of an open-minded, eclectic feel about the Futurism releases. This is no different. Whilst rooted in nu-disco and deep house, Futurism: Shades of Space also touches on 21st century jazz-funk (Manmademusic), bongo-laden spiritual house (Nu Ak's "Fly Away"), fluid garage (Nega Tiv's excellent "Liquid Call"), woozy Balearica (Ben La Desh and Plan DAqua), block party boogie (Questlife feat Wildstyle, Freekwency) and nu-jazz (Hamish Balfour). Review: The renowned label boss of Jungle Cakes - Deekline - a man with more releases under his belt than most people, is landing on the imprint with a brand-new album alongside Specimen A. The pair make a potent combo, and their devilish approach to dancefloor-friendly drum & bass makes this album full of jump -up bangers, junglist sounds and even stepping halftime badness. It's a proper rowdy album and 'Middle Finger' is the best example, as a stupidly cool angled bassline flutters into the distance with pitched-up angst and serious underground intent. Review: Two heroes of the new breed kick off a new mix series for Jamie Jones' esteemed Hot Creations imprint. Jones began Paradise at DC10 (Ibiza) five years ago and it's gone on to be a huge success, inviting the biggest names in the business to come play alongside his crew of residents. Review: The sixth installment in Giant Cuts' Disco Boogie Classics series comes from scalpel maestro DocJam, who here provides a quintet of "authentic disco adjustments". While there are a few subtle house tricks and modern effects here and there, for the most part these are authentically old-fashioned, largely instrumental re-arrangements of the sort disco DJs have been doing for decades. That's no bad thing, though, given the quality of the source material (France Joli's "Gonna Get Over You" on "Get Over It!", Gaz's "Sing" on "Double Sing", and so forth). The string-laden, sun-kissed disco grandiosity of "Dancin (Is The Only Way)" is probably our pick, though the digital-only "Make It Happen (Bonus)" is also pretty darn tasty.

Review: The second instalment of Licked Out Funk on Funk Fusion is rip-roaring to say the least, as all 28 tracks were brought into this world with the sole purpose of getting you moving, something accomplished through big drum hits and recognisable samples. Almost every track on this compilation has a sample you'll recognise; 'Come To Skanker' is a distortion of Beatles classic 'Come Together', 'Ain't No Funkin' does a good job flipping Chaka Khan's original 'Ain't Nobody' and 'Trippin Biggie' gives the funk treatment to The Notorious BIG. This is a feel-good album of still quality tracks and you'll have a hard time not moving to the procession of boom-bap drums, big synth lines and sense of retro nostalgia.
