Review: This is fantastic month for huge retrospectives and RAM have definitely not disappointed with "Audio Presents RAMLife Drum & Bass." A massive 26 tracks of upfront drum and bass and a full mix of the entire release by Audio is the RAM fan's reward for 12 months of solid support through the toughest, hardest, darkest tunes in the business. Including some of the most aggressive, technically adept and prominent artists the genre has to offer, such as heavyweights Bad Company, longstanding noisemakers Optiv & BTK and the unmistakable onslaught of Noisia, it's a solid gold wreck-fest and we're all invited.
Review: It doesn't seem so long since the last album from serial badman Audio but lo and behold he brings us something new to soothe the soul on Ed Rush & Optical's legendary Virus Recordings. "Soulmagnet" is every inch the killer tech-stepping, neurofunk-mashing collection of tracks one might expect. After the intro "Fringe", we are treated to an array of dark, twisted flavours. Particular highlights include "Creature Comforts" with its stuttered, punchy kicks; the epic "Point Of No Return" and of course the title track itself "Soulmagent" with its driving, tech-y energy.
Review: Incurzion Audio are proud to present We Are Incurzion Vol.2. This next installment in their various artist release series consists of 14 underground/alternative drum & bass cuts, featuring contributions from long-standing label staples and ascendant newcomers alike - debuting before their full releases in the near future. Whether it's Hexa's deep medi roller "Dont Miss The Bus", Niallo's off-kilter stepper "Crisis" or Para's crossover from UK bass into techno on the suitably titled "Austere", the label proves they are open to different genres. In addition, the likes of River and MidKnighT MooN contribute two tracks each - the latter's "Kiwi" is exactly the kind of deep dubstep we can dig!
Review: Cardiff representing: clU brings on the blue with 'Glas', his debut album on the mighty Incurzion Audio. One of those albums that deftly tells everything it needs to over a condensed and thoughtful 10 tracks, the young talent brings together everything he's about from dreamy acid-laced rave missives ('Equilibrium'), timeless jazzy MC-led vibe-outs ('Rose' with PAB), nocturnal 140 naughtiness ('3.48am'), wobbly all-out jungle happy slappery ('Gangton') and timeless euphoria ('Glas'). No filler, all thrilling - this documents the arrival of an exciting, forward-thinking talent. Pay attention.
Review: Drum & Bass Arena has ruled on high for nearly 20 years, and in that time has helped to forge the careers of every drum & bass artist worth their salt. It's impossible to downplay the influence the site has had on the scene, as a club brand and an online resource, and this year their official compilation is a doozie. Featuring some of the largest tracks around right now from Friction & Skream, J Majik & Wickaman, DJ Hazard, Rene LaVice, Calyx & TeeBee, Original Sin and Optiv & BTK as well as bangers from fresh artists like Heist, Zen & Nitri, this is an essential purchase for any D&B fan. Focussing on the heavier end of the spectrum this 35 track behemoth is basically your 2013 compendium of bass. Don't leave home without it.
