Review: Everyone loves a good story behind a record and few come with a more interesting narrative than this debut (and perhaps only) Talamanca System 12". The story goes that Gerd Janson and Phil Lauer were enjoying the Ibizan hospitality of International Feel boss Mark Barrot last summer, to the extent they were both gifted his unused Studio Electronics 'Boomstar 303' synth. Eager to repay such a lavish favour, Janson offered to remix a track Barrot was working on, an offer which eventually resulted in this 12". Four versions of "Balanzat" feature here, with an original, acid reflux, Tuff City Kids refix and ambient reprise to choose from. If this is the only Talamanca System record we will see it's a shame as it's a mighty fine addition to the International Feel discography.

Review: Make no mistakes: Ruffneck Ting are smashing it on a whole new level this year! Bombarding the game with beat after beat, barely a month has gone by with a Ruffneck roll-out session. The Xtraordinary League Of Junglists takes this proliferation to a whole new level with 20 killer cuts from some of the label's firmest friends and family. Every cut is a highlight but you'd be off your nut not to check the clinically obese classical mid-90s jump up bass of "War", the sprung-out Bingo bounces of "All 2 Myself", the piano-slapping feel good rave workout "All Through The Night" or the dubbed-out trickery of "Hazey Dub". Need we go on? Ruffneck Ting have been on this ting since dot and they're rolling out some of their finest right here. Essential.

Review: Over the years, Joey Negro has delivered compilations focusing on a wide range of styles and sub-genres, including soulful disco, Italo-house, early U.S disco-rap, and Washington D.C go-go. Now he's turned his attention to electro, the style that did more than any other to inspire Britain's first wave of DJs and dance music producers. Review: It would seem that the team at Ruffneck Ting have pulled out all the stocks here as they put together their 'The Xtraordinary League Of Junglists 2 (Level 1)' compilation, collecting up fifteen original dynamite sticks as they do so. The line-up contains a collection of high profile drums specialists, including DJ Hybrid, Erbman, Jinx, Bass Antics, Genetix and a host more. For us the highlights of this quite frankly super stacked project include Lion UK's dubwise roller in 'Hova Nova', alongside Flat T's scatty driver 'The Dragon' and Verdikt's super subby outing on 'Enemies'.

Review: Prins Thomas' recent Paradise Ghoulash mix was something of an epic, stretching across three CDs. It also featured a number of special versions, re-edits and remixes by the man himself, a selection of which have now been available digitally for the first time. There's naturally much to admire, from the rolling, dancefloor-friendly rework of Box Saga's forgotten 1995 B-side "Zen & The Art Of Deadlines", and a blissful Balearic house interpretation of Hieroglyphic Being's "Imaginary Soundscapes 9", to two fine versions of Blacknecks' 2014 jam "Don't Dream It Be It", in which the Norwegian adds his own krautrock-influenced percussion and psychedelic builds. Arguably best of all, though, is Thomas no-nonsense edit of U's "The Subdubba Beat (Stockholm Glue Mix)", which tightens up and cuts down the dub techno epic to make it vastly more workable for DJs.

There's a fab blend of driving synth workouts (see "Life Turned Up Loud" or "Broken Box"), dubbed out basslines a la the Hatcha & Lost remix of RMS - "Cold", with some heavy moments (Trowa - "Black Pyramid") and quirky cuts like Stenchman's "Purple Cow". All in all, a comprehensive compilation which ticks all the boxes.

Review: Hankies at the ready... This 30 track best-of set is Ground Level's final release. Celebrating eight years of fuelling the breaks scene with exciting and authentic original material, the label boss Andy McAllister has decided to close its doors and get busy on a new project called Four Three Six. As with any well-selected best of compendium, each and every track is a highlight. But if we're going to pick a few that really sum up the unique spirit of Ground Level then chow straight down on the Orbital-on-triplets vibe of Stylus Rex's "Spangle Wagon", Rebel Sketchy's super-slam bass jam "The Ride" and Andy's very own "The Theme". With its mischievous horns, hype-rising riff and techy undertones, it acts as a great final salute to a game in which they've scored many many wins. Ground Level will be sorely missed.

It's a pretty monumental project, showcasing the best of the combination between old and new UK garage in it's richest formats. Despite the tracklisting being super stacked, our highlights would have to include the dreamy landscapes of Undertone's Instant Mood Vocal mix of 'Let It Be' from Xavier, alongside Solution's Doctor dub mix of 'You', put together originally by the exceptional combo of Fully Loaded Project, Karl Brown & Todd Edwards. What a legendary compilation this really is.
