Review: This VA is jam-packed with some of the scene's best liquid maestros, and it's of the movement for Liquid Drum & Bass 4 Autism, a group which seeks to raise awareness and money for those who have autism. Low:r, Furney, MsDos and more have gotten themselves involved, and the result is a lovely, serene walk through some of 174's most nonchalant moments. 'Eyes Closed' by Low:r is especially gorgeous, with his trademark organic sound fluttering in the wind of his creativity like usual. Changer is characteristically deep with 'Only To Be', and it's just the iceberg of what is a brilliant album for a brilliant cause.

Review: Freestyle's series of genre-themed download bundles continues, with June's 'Afro & Latin!' and September's 'Funk!' comps now joined by this 40-track collection of soul and disco nuggets from the label's back catalogue. The set kicks off with a bona fide classic in the form of Omar's 'There's Nothing Like This', after which come 39 more cuts from the likes of Carleen Anderson, Kyle Audist and The Fantastics (not to mention, in featured vocalist form, Jocelyn Brown and Caron Wheeler). Review: If you're after a near faultless selection of peak-time ready house and disco jams, this special Amsterdam Dance Event compilation from Yam Who's Black Riot could just be the ticket. There's a good mixture of fresh floor-fillers - see the sample-heavy, boompty style Chicago house pulse of The Phantom Revenge's "Workout Music", Phonik D's piano-laden disco-house romp "Talking Vintage" and the smooth, life-affirming deep house warmth of Thatmanmonkz's hazy revision of Amp Fiddler's "Your Love Is All I Need" - and recent revisions of classic cuts. Review: V Recordings do some of the best compilations in the business and their brand new Foundation series is a natural recognition of that fact. They're not being hyperbolic with the usage of the term 'Foundation' either, because this is truly an overview of some of the scene's most foundational producers. Old-school Dillinja, Krust, Roni Size and DJ Die, amongst others, make up the roster of acts that formed an integral part of the genre back in the day. That's why the imprint's "My Favourite Pets" compilation series, which gathers together brilliant bits from the catalogue you may have missed, is essential listening. Volume six is naturally full to bursting with tried-and-tested treats from Catz 'N' Dogz excellent imprint. Review: Most active from the mid-70s to the mid-80s, Patrice Rushen's discography has spanned jazz, R&B, jazz-funk, soul and pop, but it's the jazz-funk/disco fusions she delivered for Elektra Recordings in the late 70s/early 80s that remain her best-loved work. Here, 15 tracks from that period are gathered together, with favourites like the evergreen 'Forget Me Nots' and 'Haven't You Heard' (reworked in the late 90s by Daddy's Favourite) snuggling up alongside less over-played but equally high-quality cuts like the jazz-funk piano groove that is 'Number One' and the ultra-smooth boogie of 'Feels So Real'. Smoochers like 'Where There Is Love' perhaps sound a little less relevant in 2019, but this is still a very classy collection indeed.

As a way of marking this momentous occasion, the label has conjured up this expansive compilation, which offers up a blend of fresh remixes of label classics, overlooked revisions, bonus cuts and the odd hard-to-find classic (see Move D's superb "Hurt Me", which first appeared on the imprint in the mid-90s). Highlights are plentiful from start to finish, with Roman Flugel's throbbing rework of Beanfield's "Human Patterns", I:Cube's LFO-influenced re-make of A Forest Mighty Black's "Fresh In My Mind", Joakim's funk-fuelled acid take on Marbert Rocel's "Dance Slow" and Die Orangen's wonderfully druggy interpretation of Marsmobil's "Sometimes I Don't Regret" all catching the ear.

Review: Some years back, Laurent Garnier's F Communications label released a series of compilations under the title "Megasoft Office". These gathered together deep, groovy and downtempo cuts that made an excellent musical accompaniment to your working day. Irma's latest collection, "Work With Balearic Music", takes a similar approach. Wisely, the storied label group has dipped into their archive of original Balearic-era Italian productions, offering up dream house classics and rarities from the likes of Keys & Tronics Ensemble, Montego Bay, Belladonna, Don Carlos, Notenshun and Soft House Company. Throw in some jazzy downtempo grooves and a handful of recent productions and you have an expansive, on-point set rich in classic cuts.

Review: Festive fun and frolics from prolific scalpel fiends We Mean Disco, as leading lights Philly Vanilla head to the dinner table with a steaming bowl of hearty "X-mash" (geddit?). It's a veritable feast of floor-focused party vibes, with the cheekily named twosome flitting between organ-powered disco-house (nine-minute workout "The Human Kind"), vibraphone-laced, delay-laden and suitably tooled up disco ("Heavy Vibes"), smile-inducing '80s soul/boogie-pop cheeriness ("Givin You All My Love") and disco-era Michael Jackson in dub ("Chilly Bean"). Review: When Eskimo Recordings approached Bill Brewster with the idea of putting together a compilation exploring his epic record collection, the acclaimed journalist and DJ decided to take a widescreen approach. While the CD and vinyl versions are split into multiple, themed editions ("Post-Punk", "Balearic" and "House"), this vast, 41-track digital edition gathers everything together in one place. Predictably, it's a hugely impressive and eye-opening set, with Brewster serving up largely obscure or long-forgotten cuts that range in scope from trippy, dubbed-out post-punk disco, jaunty jazz-funk, synth-heavy boogie and heavily percussive Afro-disco grooves, to saucer-eyed European synth-pop, the dub techno of Maurizio, Swag's early UK tech-house and the East Midlands deep house bump of Charles Webster's "A Love From San Francisco" project. In other words, it's a cracker from start to finish.

Review: Given his credentials and track record, it's unsurprising that original disco and boogie artists are willing to let Joey Negro play around with their biggest hits. His first stab at this kind of multi-track remix, 2014's Remixed With Love, was such a success that he's decided to unleash another swathe of revisions over two vinyl double-packs. This edition features some killer reworks, including a sublime, on-point rearrangement of Gwen McRae's "Keep The Fire Burning" and a rolling, dubbed-out version of Grace Jones' "Pull Up To The Bumper" that rivals Larry Levan's classic remix. The veteran producer also successfully turns Pockets' "Come Go With Me" into a classic soulful house rub, and pushes Thelma Houston's "I'm Here Again" further towards disco anthem territory.

Review: Many will be familiar with Milton Wright's Friends & Buddies album, a much-sampled Miami soul classic that's been in demand since its' release in 1975. Intriguingly, that version of the album was Wright's second version; the first slipped out in limited numbers on promo before the master tapes were destroyed in a fire, forcing the artist to re-record it. This, then, is the first release of Wright's original version, rescued from permanent obscurity by Athens of the North. Notably folksier, looser and breezier than the version we've all come to know and love, Original Friends & Buddies sounds more like Terry Callier than Wright's later output. Happily, he tells the whole story himself in the excellent sleeve notes.

Review: Dynamicron's Los Grandes label is fast becoming one of the more reliable sources of contemporary disco. Their Black Lace compilations, which feature tracks that sit somewhere between straight-up edits and disco-tinged house productions, have proved particularly popular. There's predictably plenty to enjoy on this sixth instalment in the serious, from the righteous rubbery bass and space synths of Sunner Soul's "One Game" and heavyweight Italo pulse of Nicko's "Electronic Disguise", to the bouncy cut-up disco house antics of Mr Moustache Love's "El Coca", and Plastic Fantastic's dreamy downtempo gem "Beyond The Horizon". While the latter stands out like a sore thumb next to such boisterous dancefloor fare, it arguably provides the album's most startling moment.

Review: Given the recent upsurge in interest in the back catalogue of seminal Chicago label Dance Mania - particularly the ghetto booty side of their output - it seems fitting that Strut have finally given the label the retrospective treatment it so richly deserves. The whole story is here, from the early jack tracks of Hercules, The Housemaster Boyz and Victor Romero, to the stomping rhythms of DJ Funk, Dj Deeon and Robert Armani (whose ghetto-meets-acid jam "Ambulance" is a riotous highlight). Along the way, there are classics aplenty, alongside lesser-known gems from the vaults (see Parris Mitchell Project's ace "Ghetto Shout Out (feat Wax Master)" and Paul Johnson's thrilling "Feel My MF Bass"). Whether you're a Chicago house connoisseur or not, this should be essential listening.

Review: Synth-bothering indie-popsters Friendly Fires are the latest contributors to the uniformly excellent Late Night Tales series, and they seem desperate to prove just how diverse their tastes are. Oh, and their underground credentials. So, we get fuzzy stoner disco (Renee), curious French electro-disco oddness (Space), shirts-off end of night goodness (the much-played but still ace "Like An Eagle" by Dennis Parker), krautrock-inspired indie pop (Stereolab, Cocteau Twins), classic US garage (Iron Galaxy), future anthems (SBTRKT), dream-pop (Junior Boys, Lauren Halo), folksy musings (Grouper), and even a dash of Olivia Newton-John (the decidedly Balearic "Love Song"). While a cynic may raise a surprised eyebrow at some of the selections, there's no denying their quality.

Review: Factory Records has always been a source of fascination for music historians and reissue merchants, though their focus has usually been on the label's indie credentials. Here crate-digging experts Strut take a different approach, shining a light on the label's contribution to dancefloor culture in the post-punk years. Largely steering clear of the biggest anthems, FAC Dance offers a good mix of familiar tunes ("Love Tempo", "Confusion", "Cold As Ice" etc), long-forgotten gems (see the alt electro-funk of A Certain Ratio and Marcel King's E'd-up Hacienda anthem "Reach For Love") and genuine curiosities (check The Duratti Column's dubbed-out proto Balearica, the piano-laden Latino vibes of Quando Quango's "Genius" and Biting Tongues oddball post-punk Afro-fusion). A fitting tribute to a truly visionary label.

Review: The calibre of contributors to this remix album is a sign of the high regard that Bpitch boss Ellen Allien is held in. Aux 88 depart from their trademark electro sound for a tight, stabby techno take on "Ever", while Bodycode brings his eerie organ sound to the spacey "Dream", straddling this seemingly disparate mixture with snappy percussion. Meanwhile, Kassem Mosse delivers a beautiful, chiming bell and breathy vocal-laden take on "Our Utopie". There are also some fine left of centre versions, like Tim Hecker's organic ambient version of "Sun the Rain", John Roberts's gradually unravelling, tripped out melodic interpretation of "Should We Go Home", and the piece de resistance, the Ripperton take on "My Tree", which progresses from dense drums and foreboding trance riffs into soaring electro bass and epic indie guitars.
