Review: Sorry, no slow and dark Belgian New Beat here, as this is a whole different kettle of 'Body Music'. Instead we have a satisfying selection of delicious disco and house gems. Here renowned Brooklyn re-edit label Razor-N-Tape have rustled up quite an EP led by the original mix of "Just One", an enrapturing loop of Chic-era guitars, pianos and soulful vocals. The Lay-Far remix is a soft, deep and dreamy excursion. The Drum mix of "Get It Baby" recalls the early boogie synth of Patrick Cowley, while Patchwork goes for pure analogue disco and Wurli drops a killer electronic space-house joint.
Review: Happy eighth birthday to Hot Digits, who are celebrating their anniversary with this superb collection of contemporary disco, funk and boogie slammers. With a whopping 30 tracks to choose from there's obviously no room here to go into them all one-by-one, but with cuts ranging from the smooth jazz-funk of 'George's Groove' to the unabashed filter disco euphoria of 'Cuz I'm Naked', and from the fat-ass slap bass of 'We're Gettin' In' to cheeky Loleatta-referencing disco-houser 'Dub Sensation', there's evidence a-plenty here, should any be required, that Hot Digits do this kind of tackle better than most.
Review: Sunner Soul presents a seventh compilation of highlights from his edit-minded Vintage Music label. While there is one killer cut by Banana Lover - the slow house style disco-funk chugger "Just Like That" - it's pretty much a showcase for the talented Russian's own reworks. He's often best when operating at a slower tempo, and many of the collection's highlights - the fliter-rich horizontal soul of "Meeting With The Sea", the tasty Will Powers rework "Only You", sensual "Love Yoy Anyway", and sleazy, sax-laden "Body Language", for starters - offer genuinely dancefloor moments that barely get above 100bpm. Of course, there are some high tempo disco bangers to enjoy, including the excellent "Come On A Dance" and "Smooth Riding".
