Review: This label recently launched by DJ Spinforth (and pals) as a next step extension to his biweekly column for the Ghetto Funk blog called 'The Scour', to highlight and showcase the unsigned talent that he encounters while 'scouring' Soundcloud. The next logical step was to actually release this stuff, so here's the impressive debut compilation snappily called Scoured Cream. Originally intended to showcase just five tunes, its now boasts eight including the stop-start blues-hop of "Sun No Shine", the wobble-soul of "Hell Yeah" and some electro-swing courtesy of Hong Kong Ping Pong.

Review: BLCKHRY is one of those artists with a low-key fantastic back-catalogue and after a bit of a slow-down in terms of output, he's back on Pick N Mix with a fierce EP that shows off some serious production skills. 'BOP' is one of the stronger tracks, an expansive, growing number that starts in small pieces and gradually puts itself together, each synth sounds wicked and the combination of all of them is next level. 'Cream' is very creative and has a unique rhythmic structure that some won't like but that others will love and regardless, it's a top-level cut to round out the release. Yes mate!

Review: It's been a good four months since the last EP from formidable disco/funk/soul twosome Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee. Here they return to the Editorial label (their usual home) with five more chunks of party-starting scalpel action. Naturally, there's plenty to get the juices flowing, from the rubbery bass, rolling grooves and undulating strings of "Boogie Box", and the whistle-laden disco-funk heaviness of "Groove Catcher", to the unfettered, looped-up sweetness of "Givin' Ya Up". Review: It's difficult to envisage a Breakbeat Paradise drop that doesn't feature a serious tonne of quality, with this latest collection of 13 powerful creations making up the 'Boots Of Paradise' collection. The project takes a very central theme of reigniting hip hop vocals with dancefloor-ready reworks, from the classic Biggie sampling of Crash Party's 'The Juice' to the old school slicing of 'Ice Cream' from LROY and Aliens In Denmark's 'Chatty Tramp'. Even with this pretty solid central theme, the project has a lot of variation involved, from the sharpened drum punches and modernized synth slides of 'Brick Bounce' by Towlie DJ, to the more 4x4 influenced grooves of Morlack's 'Fall In Love With Me'. Our standout highlight for the whole drop would have to be Pecoe's 'Champion', which balances crunchy drums with well designed vocal sampling, which also makes it a perfect final entry.

Review: Having previously released on many of the edit scene's most prolific labels - think Hot Digits, Editorial, Masterworks Music and Disco Fruit - Deelicious attempts to complete a full house by adding Alpaca Edits to his CV. Perhaps the most notable feature of the EP is the subtle variety of the producer's reworks. Contrast, for example, the heavy but swirling disco-house bounce of "Sexy Cream", whose undulating orchestration works in perfect harmony with the producer's chunky new house beats, and the '80s boogie-meets-disco-funk brilliance of synthesizer-heavy opener "Tilt". Those searching for deeper and dreamier vibes should also check the hazy country-disco sweetness of "Dreamer".

Review: Topical and relevant to the national consciousness at large as we accelerate through 2012, a landmark year for the nation's capital, Scott Garcia's "It's A London Thing 2012" certainly grabs our attention from the off. The classic original re-edit is a hypnotic piece with smacking beats and an enticing swing. The 2020 mix shakes things up with a futuristic edge and slowed down, swaggering rhythms; Billy Daniel Bunter & Sanxion whack in a whole load of purple wow-esque synths alongside a good dose of trance-like euphoria and dubstep squeals. Loki Boi takes things basswise with squelchy bass belches, whilst B Gnarly does just that with his stomping re-work, and then Certified Sickness gives it the D&B treatment.

Named in honour of their radio show and regular parties in Glasgow, Joints & Jams offers up a hugely entertaining (and largely floor-friendly) mixture of funk-fuelled hip-hop (Bastien Keb, Fort Knox Five, Andy Cooper), skanking reggae (The Nextmen and Gentlemen's Dub Club sing-along 'Done It Again'), flash-fried funk breaks (the Allergies), tropical goodness (DJ Nu-Mark's hook-up with Quantic), and various fusions of disco, boogie and funk (see the cuts from Kraak & Smaak, X-Ray Ted, Pablo & Shoey and Shaka Loves You themselves). Review: Homework's Hudson Square EP, released in February, found its way into the CD wallets of a wide range of DJs thanks to a breezy mix of deep house and nu-disco flavours. For this remix release, three tracks from the original EP get a good going over from a variety of deep house heads. While not as immediately engaging as the EP itself, there's still plenty to get excited about. Darabi's version of "Whipped Cream" - a snappy fusion of bubbling disco and deep house melodies - stands out, while Homework's own rework of the Kenny Dixon Jnr-sampling "I'm Into This" is a soft-focus, soul-flecked delight.
