The Sound Of Mercury Rising Compiled With Love By DJ Harvey
Dj Harvey / Various
Locussolus - "Next To You" (Marcy Rising edit) - (6:40) 105 BPM
Elkin & Nelson - "Abran Paso - Ahoa" - (4:06) 102 BPM
Eighth Wonder - "I'm Not Scared" (Disco mix) - (7:58) 106 BPM
Idjut Boys - "One For Kenny" - (6:21) 105 BPM
Roberto Rodriguez - "Mustat Varjot" - (8:18) 105 BPM
Rune Lindbaek & Chris Coco - "Weekend Billionaires" - (7:12) 107 BPM
Review: In 2015 DJ Harvey made his hugely anticipated return to Ibiza and made Pikes the home for his Mercury Rising debut, a concept inspired by the beauty of the real Ibiza, the incredible history of the hotel (aka The Chelsea of Ibiza) and a genuine love for music. This Balearic spirit perfectly and poetically encapsulated by DJ Harvey has seen Mercury Rising widely recognised as the most special night to embrace the island in over a decade. The next step in the story sees him launch Pikes Records - the first record label founded by Pikes owners and Ibiza Rocks co-founders Andy McKay and Dawn Hindle. From his own Locussolus project's slow burner "Next To You" (Marcy Rising edit), to fellow London disco heroes Idjut Boys who serve up "One For Kenny" where they get really deep. There's also party favourite Gatto Fritto with "Invisible College" and Eric 'Dr. Dunks' Duncan, on form as always, with Chris Munoz on the scorcher "Zona De Perigo".

Phreakin Booty Attacks
DJ Sneak & Tripmastaz - "Booty Ho" (Doorly's Acid N Whistles Acapella Tool) - (1:48) 87 BPM
Played by: Philthtrax
Review: Following up a great release by renowned actor Idris Elba, Doorly's Reptile Dysfunction (easily contender for the year's best label name!) now bring you more cheeky house shenanigans by the legendary Carlos Souza aka DJ Sneak. The Windy City Don now dwells in Toronto, but his roots will always be heard in his signature sound. He teams up with Russian wunderkind Tripmastaz (Plant 74/Dance Mafia - Chelyabinsk) for the second time in 2017, following up a great EP for Ovum. "Booty Ho" is a cheeky 'percolator' style jack, calling to mind the classic Chicago hard house sounds of the mid '90s - popularised by Relief Records and DJ Rush. There's something more familiar of Souza next up on the boompty disco loops of "Sneak Attacks" and equally so on the smoothly hypnotic edit of "Beat Phreakin" by Tripmastaz himself. These guys are such 'House Gangstas' - what more can we say!

Snakepiss - "Toil" - (2:20) 88 BPM
Review: K7's DJ Kicks compilation series is given a new makeover with their latest juggernaut from London-based electronic deviant, Actress, who gives one of his rare appearances out of the live format and onto the decks. As expected, the techno shape-shifter puts through a diverse mix of 20-plus tracks spanning old-school Chicago house to more contemporary experimental techno and ambient-filtered dance music. This continuous DJ mix includes vintage Detroit techno from Reel By Real, distorted outsider disco from the Shit & Shine crew, Gherkin Jerk's "Red Planet" and a new cut from the man himself, "Bird Matrix". It's safe to say that this mix is comprehensive of the current state of affairs in the techno world: cuts ranging from the distorted house of Breaker 1 2, golden era electronica from Autechre, TTT's Zennor, Germany's STL and even PPU affiliate Moon B! An essential collection of music from 2015, highly recommended, of course!

Fwd & Back (Remixes)
Fwd & Back (Shontay Ramone remix) - (3:40) 80 BPM
Review: UKG legend and all around underground dance music icon Zed Bias makes his return here via Biasonic for a very enjoyable remix project, which takes a deeper look into 'Fwd & Back'. First of all, we dip into an exciting 2018 rework of the original creation, beefing up the drums, bass notation and atmospheric pressure to compliment the assertive vocal even more than before. We are also gifted an official remix from Shontay, who takes a look at reworking the track into a moogy half time format, perfect for tripping out the dance. This one also comes complete with the original instrumental and vocal mixes.

Mija - "Sweat It Out" (Ludwig A.F. remix) - (4:52) 106 BPM
Review: Remixes for days in the haus with Pre-Rolled Joints Vol 2: Remix Collection, Pt. 2 by Unknown To The Unknown. Kicking of with a sultry Kelis vibe in Ludwig A.F's remix of "Sweat It Out", other highlights include Hashman Deejay doing the business on a Ruf Dug number, Andras turning over some proto-techno on Bell Towers, with Shed going all time on UTTU boss man's "Bit Too Deep". Willie Burns drops a spooky remake of Max's D's legendary "High Life", next to some reliable Legowelt wares, a Roza Terenzi rework of Assembler Code and final dose of Fantastic Man who goes deep with a luscious mix of DJ Shark's "Closer".

The Full Sentence (The Project Club remix) - (7:37) 85 BPM
Twisted Tongue Promo Mix (bonus continous DJ mix) - (38:28) 103 BPM
Review: Nouveau Balearic peddlers The Project Club are back for a split EP with Twisted Tongue in order to prolong the summer vibes...and we're not complaining! First up, the former deliver their trademark 'dreamy guitar' and soothing beats while enlisting the emotive vocals of Johanna Lee. Twisted Tongue's "Jammin For Sojka" follows with arpeggiated bleeps, an electro-house bassline, North African-style percussion and self-empowering lyrics. Both acts collide too on Project Club's soulful and sublime remix of "The Full Sentence". Chillout never sounded so good!

DJ Kaos presents Jolly Jams Various Artists
Various
Baffopizza - "Magic" - (4:24) 104 BPM
Review: DJ Kaos's latest offering combines reworks (many previously unheard) of tracks from his catalogue, with a variety of reworks and original productions from many of his buddies in the scene. It's an eclectic and wide-ranging selection, with highlights coming thick and fast throughout. The set begins with the chunky cosmic house throb of Softwar's 'Afterhours' and ends with a wonky, stripped-back, after-party friendly Solomun rework of Kaos's 'I Want To Be There'. Sandwiched in between you'll find such must-check gems as Luke Solomon's nine-minute 'raw mix' of Richard From Milwaukee's glassy-eyed turn-of-the-90s breakbeat house gem 'Clear Water', the Italo-goes-proto-house throb of Red Axes' 'Promo Only', and the heavily dubbed-out, effects-laden disco headiness of Napoleon's 'Love Spell'.

Niki Nakazawa - "Would It Be" - (3:10) 86 BPM
Review: Some DJs use the opportunity of a DJ Kicks mix to showcase the eclectic nature of their record collections, while others see it as a chance to give an airing to the dancefloor records that have inspired them over the years. Seth Troxler's selection sits somewhere in between. On the one hand, there are impeccable jazz and downtempo moments from the likes of Sun Ra, Herbert (as remixed by Phil Parnell) and DJ Koze, whose "Bodenweich" is an undeniably atmospheric, off-kilter delight. On the other hand, Troxler has picked out some genuinely brilliant, mostly US-centric house selections; deep, soulful and bumpin' fare from the likes of Butch, Kerri Chandler, Jasper Street Company, Mood II Swing and Derrick Carter.

Playa D'en Bossa Ibiza Series, Vol 14
Various
Alien Caf? - "Hiding" (Short Cut) - (3:42) 100 BPM
Review: Volume 14 in the series, so regular buyers should know what to expect by now. For the uninitiated through, the 'Playa D'en Bossa' series harks back to an earlier era of 'Balearic', before the term became synonymous with ethereal chill-out grooves, whale song and fluttering Spanish guitars, and when it referred instead to an electic, open-minded approach to programming DJ sets. Accordingly, the 23 tracks here range from house and nu-disco (see cuts from Dis-Connection, Alex Twitchy and Dr Basement) to trance and EDM (see, eg, Tom-E Project's 'Shine' or Little Madam's 'Yeah Uh Uh Ah'), much of it served with a distinct Europop twist, with Joma's 'Space Virus' and Nick Saley's 'Bengal' among the highlights.

Boca 45 - "Steady Rockin'" - (4:57) 106 BPM
Cut La Roc - "Sunday Morning People" (Herbgrinder remix) - (4:09) 105 BPM
Review: UK purveyours of funky breaks, Bombstrikes Records, may have a controversial name but there's everything to love about their sound. The fun loving and dancefloor bothering label run by Mooqee & Beatvandals was founded in 2004 and they claim that if you have been to a club since then you will most likely have heard their releases. Well then! Starting off with the low slug funk of A Skillz's "Mooger Fooger (dub mix)", Mooqee & Beatvandals themselves appear with "Back Up" and the legendary Cut La Roc is still at it; "Sunday Morning People" (Herbgrinder remix)" proves that he's still got his finger on the pulse. Other highlights include Pimpsoul's ever soulful "Is This Love (feat Pat Fulgoni - Pimpsoul funk remix)" the street attitude of A Skillz & Beatvandals "Simply Playing (feat Real Elements)" and the legendary Martin Solveig (remixed by the equally legendary Mousse T) who appears with the James Brown sampling "I'm A Good Man".

Review: International Chrome sends in 13 club constructions that come directly out of Latin America taking in the new-fangled techno, electro and club-wise sounds taking the internet by storm. Kicking off with juke joints like Aleroj's "SÓBAMELO GROOVE", AMANTRA lifts samples from a Kelis classic in "Milkshake" while Dagga sends in some footwork inspirations with "Back It Up". The Realm & V - "One Chance" (feat Domu - Domu remix) - (6:48) 84 BPM
Review: The third volume in a series that sees Oli Lazarus's Papa Records taking a deep dive into their back catalogue and serving up a selection of gems built for sunshine and lazy days. Broken beat and soulful house from the mellower and jazzier side is the order of the day generally, and what's most remarkable is how fresh it all sounds given that many of these tracks are now over 20 years old. Nathan Haines' sublime and steppy 'Sound Travels' is the standout for this reviewer, but with the album packing tracks and remixes from scene stalwarts like DJ Spinna, Reel People, Domu, Modaji and Kaidi Tatham, it'll delight long-term fans of the style - and probably draw in some new ones that were still in nappies when these cuts first came out!

Review: Chillout hero, Kenneth Bager (aka Dr. Baker & The Kenneth Bager Experience) is a man on a mission - running his Music For Dreams label and forever searching for, and releasing, the finest downtempo beats on the international Balearic scene. His Sunset Sessions series is hugely popular, and here we have the fifth instalment. Highlights of the 28 tracks(!) featured include the quirky synth pop of "Thank You Wally" by Ruf Dog, the deep acoustic tech of "Night Wind" by Islandman and the sunkissed 80s disco vibes of "So Elvissa (RunSQ mix)" by Blank & Jones feat Mike Francis.

Review: Diynamic head honcho Solumun is back with some top tier remixes from his acclaimed long player of 2021 - Nobody Is Not Loved. This release features Pampa main man DJ Koze taking lead single "Ocean" (featuring vocals by the leading Hollywood actor Jamie Foxx) into deep, dark and dirty territory in his inimitable style as always, while British minimal house maestro Matthew Herbert serves up a real glassy-eyed and bittersweet rendition of "Prospect". Review: Hamburg label Deja Tunes have a strong roster of soulful, futuristic nu-jazz artists on their books - so much so that they've dedicated two whole collections to the best beats so far. Part Two features all manner of jazz-sampling, broken beat brilliance, such as Michael Sauer's effortlessly sultry "Hey Woman", The Bas Lexter's Ensample's Herbie Hancock-esque "The Speech", or the Supreme Court Jesters and their Last Poets/Gil Scott-Heron-aping "Archaeology of The Soul". There's even a jazzy nod to dubstep on the highly original and beautiful "Jazzmove 2" by Channel Two.

The Blackbyrds - "Mysterious Vibes" (Masters At Work remix) - (10:03) 85 BPM
The Sunburst Band & Dave Lee ZR - "Everyday" - (7:20) 105 BPM
Review: Top-level disco/house fusionists and Groove Culture Records chiefs Micky More and Andy Tee have been let loose in the Z Records archive. The result is a fine compilation that combines some of their favourites from the long-serving label's catalogue with a sextet of remixes the duo has prepared specially for the collection. If you've been following their work, you'll know exactly what to expect, namely peak-time ready, soul-fired cuts that combine authentic disco instrumentation (horns, strings, guitars, bass etc) with rolling house beats and plenty of life-affirming vocals. Highlights are naturally plentiful, with their trio of Sunburst Band remixes, Masters At Work's classic, Nuyorican Soul style remix of The Blackbyrds' 'Mysterious Vibes' and Frankie Knuckles (RIP) and Eric Kupper's 'Directors Cut' mix of Sunburst Band's 'The Secret Life of Us' all standing out.

Gavilan Rayna Russom - "Blessing" (original mix) - (5:35) 104 BPM
Review: The sound of gnarled, shredded steel and a pulsating cyber-rhythm from Container kick-starts this compilation on Public System, and there is a similar, albeit break beat-led sound on MYNTHA's "Creepin Neva Sleepin". Overall however, Place of Memory... is a varied affair. E-Saggila's "Palm Bass" is a mellow slice of electronics and both YABBOQ PENUEL and Privacy deliver moody electro breakers in the form of "La Rencontre" and "0x33 Key" respectively. On a dance floor tip, there's the dank drums and droning electronic groove of Beau Wanzer's "Blood Type Gravey", while Mick Wills impresses with a low slung, souped up take on Liquid G's "The Power Of...".

The Todd Terry Project - "Bango" (To The Batmobile/Club Bang) - (5:26) 82 BPM
Hardhouse - "Check This Out" (Club version) - (5:15) 80 BPM
Review: Defected's ongoing House Masters series should be essential listening for anyone keen to discover more about the recording careers of some of the scene's most iconic producers. Certainly, this latest installment, chronicling NYC legend Todd Terry's finest moments, contains far more hits than misses. At 35 tracks deep, it's a bit of a beast, but features not only all of his best-known productions ("Weekend", "Can You Party", "I'll House You", "Bango (To The Batmobile)", his remix of Everything But The Girl's "Missing"), but also a swathe of lesser-known remixes (A slammin' version of Bizarre Inc's "I'm Gonna Get You"), Dubs (a brilliantly stripped-back version of Hardrive's "Voices Inside My House") and original productions (the hip-house era madness of Black Riot's "Warlock").

Review: Brixton-born legend Don Letts (- a cultural polymath, pop star, filmmaker, radio broadcaster, commentator, Grammy winner and DJ- ) curates the latest Late Night Tales compilation with a diabotical 'Version Excursion'. Song choices are diverse, from French dubsters' OBF's rendition of "Sixteen Tons", to Ash Walker's refix of Omar's "There's Nothing Like This" and "All I Do Is Think About You" - immortalised by the ill-fated Tammi Terrell and preserved here by Quantic (the latter two both exclusives). Amidst a wealth of rarities you'll also find a cover (by Wrongtom Meets The Rockers) of The Clash's "Lost In The Supermarket" while between much more is Lett's exclusive rendition of Big Audio Dynamite's debut hit, "E = MC2". Review: On this sequel to the label's brilliant Italian house retrospective, Ciao Italia, the team at Rebirth Records has moved on to the early '90s and the next stage in Italy's electronic music evolution. Of course, the piano-laden, loved-up breeziness that marked out the earlier 'dream house' wave is still evident, but this time there's more low-slung basslines, tribal-influenced drums, and heavy late-night grooves. With a deeper and more diverse track listing, it's undoubtedly a brilliant sequel, with our picks of a very strong bunch including Donato Dozzy & Rumi's deep tribal house workout 'Flusso', Flavio Vecchi & House Pillar's bouncy 'Dancing On A Thin Line (Goin' Deep Mix)', T.R.A's thrusting, analogue-rich 'Take My Heart' and the frankly bonkers-but-brilliant 'LaLaLaa' by Cosmos.

Various / Shaka Loves You
Shaka Loves You - "Livin' For Tonight" (feat NattySpeaks & Profit - VIP club dub) - (3:42) 108 BPM
Review: Glasgow's Shaka Loves You has rightly earned a reputation as disco-centric duo on the rise. Because of this, it's little surprise to see them at the controls on Bomb Strikes' first foray into the disco-focused compilation market. The Scottish pair have naturally pulled out all the stops for the occasion, selecting 20 hot-to-trot cuts that aptly blur the boundaries between disco, funk, nu-disco, electro and boogie. Highlights include, but are in no way limited to, the hazy, sun-kissed soul of Lack of Afro's "Back To The Day", the thickset P-funk revivalism of Kraak & Smaak's "Dynamite" and the rubbery disco-house-meets-UK soul flex of the Reflex's remix of Omar's "Vicky's Tune". Throw in a tasty selection of the pair's productions and you have a suitably strong collection.

Kate & Anna McGarrigle - "Complainte Pour Ste Catherine" - (2:51) 103 BPM
Review: Joe Mount of lovable scuzz pop outfit Metronomy mans the latest volume in the long running Late Night Tales, a series who always seem to get the best results out of an unexpected cast of participants (Belle & Sebastien, MGMT, Trentemoeller and Midlake being recent inductees) It's hard not to get sucked in from the sugar sweet opening of Outkast's "Prototype", which is the first of several tracks that demonstrates Mount has a penchant for slow bumping R n B and outsider hiphop with Tweet, Sa Ra and a Dr Octagon classic also appearing. A typically far reaching approach to genres applies here with the cosmic jazz of Chic Corea happily mingling with Autechre and Two Lone Swordsmen and American synth oddities Geneva Jacuzzi and Appaloosa mingling for attention with The Alan Parsons Project and Herman Dune. The de-rigueur cover version arrives with a Metronomy rendition of Jean-Michel Jarre's"Hypnose" whilst Paul Morley ends the selection with a spoken word piece.

Review: Although famous for straight-up house productions, Joey Negro's Z Records has spent the last few years cosying up to the nu-disco crowd. Here, many of the label's most disco-centric releases get a new lease of life, on a collection that gleefully joins the dots between nu-disco, disco-flecked house, boogie and electrofunk revivalism. There's another chance to check the Revenge's excellent edit of Chapter 3's "Smurf Trek", remixes from Faze Action, Tornado Wallace and The Idjut Boys, a smattering of classic re-edits from Onur Engin and Red Greg, and plenty of original material from Dave 'Joey Negro' Lee under a multitude of aliases. The Nextmen & Gentleman's Dub Club - "Done It Again" (feat Kiko Bun) - (3:39) 83 BPM
DJ Nu-Mark - "Tropicalifornia" (feat Quantic) - (4:14) 104 BPM
Shaka Loves You - "Boogie" (feat Fullee Love - SLY remix) - (4:32) 105 BPM
Shaka Loves You - "Just Keep On" - (6:40) 103 BPM
Kraak & Smaak - "Don't Want This To Be Over" (feat Satchmode - Jean Tonique remix) - (4:26) 106 BPM
Krafty Kuts & Chali 2Na - "Worth Fighting For" (feat Omar) - (3:11) 108 BPM
Review: Following the success of Shaka Loves You's previous compilations on Bombstrikes, the label has offered them the chance to launch a new series all of their own. Named in honour of their radio show and regular parties in Glasgow, Joints & Jams offers up a hugely entertaining (and largely floor-friendly) mixture of funk-fuelled hip-hop (Bastien Keb, Fort Knox Five, Andy Cooper), skanking reggae (The Nextmen and Gentlemen's Dub Club sing-along 'Done It Again'), flash-fried funk breaks (the Allergies), tropical goodness (DJ Nu-Mark's hook-up with Quantic), and various fusions of disco, boogie and funk (see the cuts from Kraak & Smaak, X-Ray Ted, Pablo & Shoey and Shaka Loves You themselves). The result is a brilliantly mixed-up collection of tried-and-tested dancefloor bombs.

Perfect Plush - "Come By The Hills" (Ruf Dug A mix In Two Halves) - (10:33) 88 BPM

Review: Copenhagen's Music For Dreams returns with the next installment in their acclaimed Sunset Sessions compilation series. Expertly curated by label chief Kenneth Bager, Sunset Sessions 10 features top-shelf balearic material from both established and up-and-coming artists. Highlights come from Troels Hammer on the glassy-eyed and bittersweet sunset vibes of "Infinita" (feat Clara Valente), The Swan, The Lake & Rosebud get seriously lo-slung on the poolside antics of "Respect The Vibe", Bager and Anders Ponsaing take you on a breezy, sax-fuelled night drive down the coast on "Greece 2000" (feat Claus Hojensgard) and the ever reliable Gerd Janson delivers a typically neon-lit disco anthem with his remix of The New Age Orchestra's "Let's Dream Together".

Peppermint Jam Records pres Deeper Effect Vol 3

Omar - "Lay It Down" (Triads 170bpm full vocal mix) - (6:08) 85 BPM
Review: Peppermint Jam have been successfully housing it up for about 20 years now. Lately they've been releasing a slew of compilations and this one explores the deeper end of their output. Despite the specific remit, it still covers a surprising amount of ground: from the haunted urban D&B of "Lay It Down (Triads mix)", funky Latin house "A World Celebration", smooth, luxurious deep house "Look Inside" and super ecstatic jump up party anthem "Check It Out". Looks like 'deep' can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people.

The Niceguys - "Rock Me" (original) - (3:40) 106 BPM
Nick Thayer & A Skillz - "Get Got" (VIP mix) - (4:02) 105 BPM
Review: Sometimes it pays to be a label boss, like for example here, on this latest Bomb Strikes comp where head honcho Mooqee has decided to hand himself the reigns. Manning the decks for nearly an hour, he whips up a frenzy of party breaks delirium over the course of 24 tracks. The tracks are supplied individually too, with highlights including the tropical trap-house of "Ladies Look Pretty" by Basement Freaks, the furious electro-bass mash-up "Get Got (VIP mix)" by Nick Thayer & A Skillz and the strompingly retro electro-funk of "How We Do This" by Tom Booze.

The Latin Leaks Vol 1
Various
DJ Andy Taylor - "Shimmy Cumbia" - (3:22) 107 BPM
DJ Clairvo - "Lift Ma Soul" - (3:23) 105 BPM
Review: Should you want to turn your place into a swinging cantina let Beatnik City's first release of The Latin Leaks be your soundtrack, and slam those tequila's to "Uhh! Ahh". There's some sampled Wu Tang thrown in among a clamour of drums in "Shimmy Cumbia", while tempos are lowered in "Lift Ma Soul". For some electro-swing vibes check out "Golden Boy" and get tropical on "Real Smooth". Consider your next fiesta sorted!

"M" Megamix
Your Brain - (3:04) 109 BPM
Review: The new I:Cube album is a rapid-fire collection of tracks woven together (there's a clue in that title you know) which takes the manner of a live set. The idea is essentially to bring the dance music album back to its raison d'etre, the dancefloor. To keep things interesting, the tracks are whipped through with a wonderful irreverence, as cheeky radio interludes and impulsive switch-ups keep things from staying too formulaic. Rather than some vision of a smooth, linear DJ set, this album instead takes the stance of creating pleasure through disorientation. Mr Chaix is a master of alluring grooves, and he uses that gift to really mess with your head when he changes tack, as between the edgy bleeps of "Y.O.U.R.O.C.K." and the light-hearted disco stomper "Get The Fever". Those surprise moves keep you engaged through all 23 tracks of this joyous beast. Chaix's lack of pretension is one of his greatest strengths; the I:Cube way is a direct and satisfying one. At no point is it cheesy or hackneyed, but it never tries to be too clever for its own good. With a live feel to match that immediacy, the "M" Megamix is a triumphant statement of what a dance music album should feel like. It might not be a comprehensive answer, but it certainly puts paid to all those "collection of singles" efforts out there.

Yellow Claw & Yung Felix - "Dancefloor Champion" - (2:55) 100 BPM
Review: This compilation to celebrate Miami 2014 features 67 tracks in total, each one resonating with forward-thinking creativity and contemporary commercial dancefloor charm. There are millions of highlights but be sure to check out the slamming stomps and vocal edits on "Unspoiled Perfection", Angello, Matisse & Sadko's cathedral-level synth anthem "SLVR" and the mad-jack fusion of Nile Rodgers and Eats Everything "Do What You Wanna Do". These are just three of many - CR2 have raised the bar ridiculously high right here.

Jerome Isma-Ae - "Drifting" - (5:34) 100 BPM
Review: With trance music enjoying a current streak of vogue through club culture today it's important to remember legends of the past alongside what's going on now. In Search Of Sunrise volume 15 does exactly that by pitching artists like Jam & Spoon together with Jerome Isma-Ae in a Blade Runner-reminding remix to "Follow Me" - full of tension and release! Furthermore the compilation highlights the Gouryella project from Ferry Corsten with the epicly synth-drenched "Surga", while other bona fide numbers come from Markus Schultz, and Fonzarelli with '80s Italo disco trance throwback "In My Dream", while Peppemansion & Angelo Di Franco' are another highlight with their minimal burner "Mariposa". A secret weapon hidden deep within.

Futurism Shades Of Space
Various
Ex Friendly - "Shokran" - (8:12) 80 BPM
Ben La Desh & Plan DAqua - "Crackstate" - (6:54) 105 BPM
Genius Collective - "Stronger Than Me" - (6:09) 100 BPM
Hamish Balfour - "Believe" (feat Erik Rico) - (6:00) 108 BPM
Review: ISM Records' two Futurism EPs have proved so popular that label boss Yam Who has decided to use them as the inspiration for an expansive compilation of previously unreleased gems. Unlike the label's other popular strand, Midnight Riot, there's always been a bit more of an open-minded, eclectic feel about the Futurism releases. This is no different. Whilst rooted in nu-disco and deep house, Futurism: Shades of Space also touches on 21st century jazz-funk (Manmademusic), bongo-laden spiritual house (Nu Ak's "Fly Away"), fluid garage (Nega Tiv's excellent "Liquid Call"), woozy Balearica (Ben La Desh and Plan DAqua), block party boogie (Questlife feat Wildstyle, Freekwency) and nu-jazz (Hamish Balfour). More importantly, the quality threshold remains high throughout.

Dont Tell Me Tell Her (Disco Dirtbox remix) - (6:26) 105 BPM
Dont Tell Me Tell Her (Flash Atkins New York dub mix) - (7:20) 85 BPM
Review: For disco heads, this Odyssey remix set should be an exciting prospect. Admittedly, the tracks being remixed are their 2011 re-recordings (originally seen on last summer's Legacy album) rather than the 70s and 80s originals, but don't let that put you off - especially as some of the reworks are superb. There's plenty of delightfully floor-friendly fodder on show, from Ray Mang's guitar-flecked re-invention of "Use It Up & Wear It Out" and Flash Atkins' Shaft-goes-dub-disco take on "Don't Tell Me Tell Her" to the everything-but-the-kitchen sink antics of Faze Action and DJD. While not every mix hits the spot, there's more than enough to warrant further investigation.

Review: Ibiza institution Cafe Mambo needs little introduction. Starting as a sunset hangout, it soon became a perfect venue for the island's pre-parties and has developed an iconic status worldwide. It has served up thousands of sunsets since it first opened it's doors in 1994 and here's Sunset to Afterdark: an expertly crafted collection compiled by the team behind the successful Future Disco series and Needwant label. This one takes you from those unforgettable sunsets to, like the name suggests, the nighttime where things really heat up. If there is one essential soundtrack required this summer, this is it. Highlights not limited to: Zero 7's sublime drifter "Last Light", Dutch trio Kraak & Smaak's emotive and bittersweet little ditty "Stumble" (Blue Hotel Mix) through to the gorgeous remix of Tempelhof & Gigi Masin's "Blue 13" by Declasse main man Steve Coby. There's even a bit of slinky and uptempo tech house from hot UK duo Dusky. Comes with two continuous mixes for your convenience: Sunset and Afterdark, naturally.

Moon Boots - "The Life Aquatic" (original mix) - (5:07) 103 BPM
Bruxas - "Plantas Falsas" (original mix) - (6:13) 109 BPM
Review: By now, we should all know what to expect from Toolroom's "Poolside Ibiza" compilation strand, namely groovy nu-disco, house and laidback Balearic beats inspired by afternoons spent lounging by the water in stonking White Isle heat. Naturally, there are plenty of gems to be found amongst the 40 unmixed tunes selected by chosen DJs Moullinex and Xinobi, from their own collaborative post-punk/dub number "X Marks The Spot", to the slick '80s synth-pop dreaminess of Tensnake's fine remix of Xinobi's "Far Away Place" and the drowsy, Morricone-influenced soundscape weirdness of Simple Symmetry's remix of Moscoman's "I Ran". Throw in some seriously good cuts from Felipe Gordon, Donald Dust, Pin Up Club and Meera (whose carnival-ready boogie jam "Fine Without You" stands out), and you have a fine collection of summery cuts.
