Review: There's going to be plenty of heat surrounding this mix-up from hot US DJ crews Wolf + Lamb and Soul Clap, and it's easy to see why. As commercially released DJ mixes go, it's exceptional. Packed with fresh material and refreshingly eclectic, it sprints between tracks - both upbeat and downtempo - at a breathless pace. From sparse nocturnal house and Arp-heavy noughties boogie to dubbed-out grooves, space-age electro and sweeping cinematic instrumentals, this installment of DJ Kicks has it all. Hell, there's even a spot of pedal steel skank from Slow Hands. With a cultured, considered feel and all manner of unreleased audio delights from the Wolf + Lamb family, it's an outstanding hour of entertainment.
Review: Fans of Mark Williams may prefer the original versions on this release, but there is no doubt that this remix package scores highly on diversity. The remixes of "Change of Heart" range from the heavy, rolling tribal techno and whooshing effects of DJ Cristao & Toni Alvarez's take to the pulsing bass and chord stabs of Giacomo Stallone's version and Jesus Soblechero's tracky, stripped back interpretation. "The Low Talker" is also available in a variety of reshapes: from Josh Love's disco'n'strings sampling tribal pounder to Miche & Mirzinho's Ben Sims-inspired Hardgroove take and the grandiose swagger of Ortin Cam's epic take - indeed there is no doubt that there is something for everyone in the techno audience.
Review: Any jungle is festival jungle when dropped at the right time, but if you're looking for out-and-out skanky bumpers that guarantee arena meltdowns look no further as Vinyl Junkie and Rachael EC have selected 48 (yes 48) cuts that promise to raise all kinds of bodily temperatures, noises and movements. Serum's wobble-funk "Rat Trap VIP", Rob Blaze's system-slaying "Sound Boy", DJ Hybrid's Headz-style drone bass snake-wrestler, the iconic rave vocal emotion on Vinyl Junkie & Sanxion's "Ninja Bizznizz", Billy Bunter's chaotic dancehall skanker "Killa Sound".... We could list the highlights for days on end. An epic collection.
