Review: Although it might still be too soon to call Texan producer DJ Poolboi a legend, his music is certainly starting to lean the way of legendary, with lo-fi house the artist's trademark. It's the boi's third album in four years across three labels and first on Shall Not Fade in which he's become something of a figure head, and Into The Blue Light signals potential for AOTY (Album of the Year). Filled with deep and impactful emotion, melancholy and warmth, it's a long player that pulls at the heart-strings while firing up the dancefloor with chords, keys and melodies that hit those sweet spots, while booming in kick, bass and drums. Highlights include opener, "Won't Let You Ruin My Mood", the pop-aqua rave of "For The Last Time" and some piano-driven Moby inspirations in "The Joy You Once Felt".

Review: What would Sound Exhibitions do without chief resident DJ Moy? Here is again having already worked up a sweat on this week's Retro Funk Part 3. On Know You Like The Way We Get Down", he broadens the emphasis beyond the former's 1970s focus. "Funkoick" edits down a synthy, digital funk jam from about 1985 and turns it to a shimmering dubby workout, next "Feels Good" is all about crisp electro soul, whilst the title track takes a searing guitar riff, loops it over a thumping house kick and throws in some wayward sax to up its Balearic credentials.

Review: Astonishingly, it has taken almost three years for Bryan Mooney's first outing as DJ Moonbeam to be made available as a digital download. We're delighted that it has though, because it's a fantastic mini album full of huggable deep space chords, fluttering new age synthesizer melodies, evocative background field recordings and surprisingly tactile drum machine rhythms. Interestingly, this edition boasts a completely different opening track, the bass-heavy, immersive and intergalactic deep house warmth of 'Do It Like This'. Elsewhere, it's as it was first time around, with highlights including the lusciously dubbed-out late night deep house of 'You're From The Future', the Detroit inspired deep techno of 'Coast', and the odd but inspired downtempo eccentricity of 'Waterside'.

Review: It's been a hot minute since we last saw a full length DJ Q project, who returns in style here for this vibrant new 11 track collection entitled 'Est. 2003'. Featuring a host of fabulous guests including Hans Glader, Todd Edwards, Finn, Shola Ama, Sharda, Lily Mckenzie & Star.One, this project is a fantastic showcasing of UKG in 2022, combining the sounds of the old and new into a fabulous collection. Despite the majesty of the collaborations involved, DJ Q impresses even more so on his solo additions, with the quirky vocal twitches of 'It's You' giving us a unique flavour, next to the super emotional harmonies of 'Close Your Eyes', the nostalgia-inducing drum bounces of 'I Couldn't See' and the unforgettable vocal overlays of 'All That I Could'. It's a pretty monumental collection, that even with it being a garage project, we would recommend taking it in via long play format!

Well...at 44 tracks large, maybe it's been worth the wait...coming from a man who back in the day helped set up Twilight 76 that released classics from the likes of DJs Assault, Deon and Slugo to Dave Clarke and Todd Osborne. More recently Godfather relaunched his Databass label which he now champions with an epic, straight-shootin' and unpretentious full time opus that takes in every angle of Detroit ghetto tech, be it the more contemporary, breakbeat and footwork sounds of "Smoke In The Air" to the gnarilier electro vibes of "The D". Review: Pure Aphro funk, don daddy Aphrodite digs deep into the vaults once again for the fourth instalment in his Classics series. One of the key producers behind the original jump-up sound in the mid 90s, the album opens with the iconic sounds of "Spice" where smooth jazz gets the blunderbuss by bouncy bass before taking us through his synthetic space-aged bass era ("Karma Sutra"), his early 90s jungle era (most notably the savage breaks of his Amazon II project) and walloping us with cult party classics along the way ("Underworld", "Bomber Style") He's not called king of the beats for nothing.

Review: The fifth release from Chicago's Teklife Records is Greenlight by DJ Manny. The label audaciously claims that it is 'a masterclass in footwork production' by one of their leading figures: and it's a fair call. Born and raised on the southside of Chicago, Manny has been dancing since the age of 10 and is said to have some of the best moves on the scene. The footwork sound 'has developed in unison with the dance style that accompanies it' and he has an intuition for what works on the dancefloor when channelling his energy in the studio. Instead of sampling (like many of his peers on the scene), he has created his own sounds on the album, giving it a more personal touch. Tracks like "Ghost Out" are dark and dystopian street sound, while there are mellower moments like "You Looking Good" (bridging the gap between liquid drum & bass) while the spitfire beats of "Life In This Bitch" features frequent collaborator on the album: DJ Taye.

Review: Where do we start with DJQ? Since the rearrising of the UK's bassline scene nationwide, Q has been at its forefront, both as a solo DJ/ producer and as ? of the infamous TQD outfit. He has played a massive part in shaping the audio texture of bassline itself, and his brand new album 'All Night' is a homage to that input, There are a lot of tracks on this project that are direct throwbacks to the more old school 'Niche' style of bassline, including the emotive sounds of 'My Bae' and the super skippy 'Arkham'. We also here more modernized creations from Q across the project, especially tracks such as 'Dirty Deeds' and 'Our Sound' which take more reese-like bass sounds and more rounded rhythmic patterns. This is a fantastic project in its entirety, showcasing why Q really is at the top of the game!

Review: The seemingly unstoppable rise of Helena Hauff continues apace. After previously shining on Ninja Tune's Actress-helmed Werk Discs offshoot, the Hamburg-based DJ/producer has now graduated to the parent label. As usual, there's much to enjoy throughout, from the punchy drum machine percussion, tumbling synthesizer melodies and foreboding chords of opener "Nothing Is What I Know" and thrillingly intense, end-of-days techno jam "Do You Really Think Like That", to the lo-fi, intergalactic brilliance of closer "Gift". Perhaps most impressive, though, is "Continuez Mon Enfant Vous Serez Traite En Consequence", a thrillingly wonky trip into dark, acid-fired electronica. In a word: essential.

The minimal end of the house spectrum is also well-served; there's the woozy break downs and builds of Martin Ikin's driving "Oscill8" and Essel's deconstructed rhythm on "Lennon". Amsterdam 2023 also serves up some irresistible, old-school selections. Pirate Copy's "Love Will Save the Day" is an intense, hardcore-sampling house track. Review: The first compilation on Koze's Pampa label is a lovingly curated affair. It starts with the left field house of Herbert's take on Lianne La Havas and Ada's r&b-infused "You & Me", as well as DJ Koze's own hymnal take on Roman Flugel's "9 Years". Other Pampa regulars like Axel Boman are well represented and he provides the ultra-mellow "In The Dust of This Planet". Equally though, Koze also provides a platform for newcomers to the fold. Review: George Kelly's Athens-based Chopshop celebrate 15 years in the game with this best-of compilation that takes in cuts from the likes of Groove Armada (via Greg Wilson), Situation, Andy Bach, Bodie Lee, HP Vince and more, many of which - as is entirely in keeping with the label's name, of course - draw heavily on source material from the past. Review: For the uninitiated Khruangbin is a three-piece band outta Texas formed of Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald Johnson on drums. Taking influence from 1960s Thai funk - think surf rock, psychedelica and Tarantino soundtracks - their name literally translates to "Engine Fly" in Thai. With a storied history so far with a bevy of albums on Late Night Tales sister label Night Time Stories, including this year's Mordechai LP, the trio have earned their right to contribute to the much loved LateNightTales mix series. With their cover of Kool & The Gang's "Summer Madness" an exclusive feature of the mix, you'll also find their number "A Calf Born in Winter' included in Bonobo's LateNightTales contribution from a years ago now. Across Khruangbin's selections most interestingly though is their global bent of taste that takes in Asian pop and Nigerian reggae to Latina inspirations, Hindi-disco and South Korean rock to an atmospheric banjo rendering of Erik Satie's 'Gnossienne'.
