It lends itself really well to remixes as well as ears; highlights come from Catz N Dogz (quirky, off-kilter house flavours), Ninetoes (show-stopping breakdown and bold cowbell shimmers), More Than Gold (big dreamy synths) and the basement dub (a Classic-style Chi-town jack fest). Beyond roadworthy.

Review: Polish power duo Catz 'N Dogz of the esteemed Pets recordings imprint take on three dynamic tracks from Will Saul's equally credible Aus Music and deliver their take. They certainly had their work cut out for them, but they deliver as always. Take for instance their booming, rusty and downright dusty rendition of "Geeeman's "Wanna Go Bang", their emotive deep electro version of Irish duo Bicep's "The Game" and of course their edit of ManMakeMusic head honcho George Fitzgerald's "Hindsight" where they get into some old school Relief Records style hard house business. All in all some very good tracks by Szczecin's favourite sons!?

Review: Introducing the remixes from Hannah Holland's recent EP featuring IMMA/MESS. "High Over You" gets a makeover by UK house hero Huxley which introduces a druggy, afterhours tech house vibe which perfectly suits the vocals if you ask us. It then gets a remix by label head honcho Luke Solomon who gives it some of that funky and swing fuelled Chicago deep house magic like only he can really. Finally The Catz 'N Dogz Club Tool Mix of "Lush" sounds like classic Green Velvet or Cashmere; once again suits the druggy edge of the track in the vein of the rave anthem 'Flash".

Review: Back in 2002, "Disco Rout" propelled Danny 'Legowelt' Wolfers from the Dutch West Coast underground to Ibizan big rooms thanks to its catchy nature and also due to the support of Cocoon. Now it re-appears in time for the 2019 summer season, albeit in remixed format. Tuff City Kids deliver a rolling, percussive take on the original, but let Legowelt's catchy synths shine through. For CatzN' Dogz, their version's focus is a pulsating electronic disco groove, while the latest reshape from Younger Rebinds sees the tempo increased and a slightly more ominous undercurrent added to those distinctive synths. Seventeen years on, Rout is still sure to cause mayhem in Ibiza.

Review: For as long as we can remember, Defected's annual Miami Music Week compilation has done a brilliant job showcasing tracks that we'll be dancing to a lot in the following weeks and months. Predictably, this year's volume is no different. There's the usual mixture of alternative remixes of familiar favourites from the previous 12 months (see David Penn's remix of Sophie Lloyd's gospel disco anthem "Calling Out" and I:Cube's brilliant revision of Peggy Gou's "It Makes You Forget"), previously released anthems (Horse Meat Disco and Amy Douglas's "Let's Go Dancing" and Ray Mang's delicious disco mix of Phenomenal Handclap Band's "Judge Not") and suitably big tunes that will soon become peak-time staples the world over (see the tracks by Bawrut, Low Steppa, Bsicits and Mighty Mouse).

Review: Circus ringmaster Yousef follows up "Beg" with this wonderfully sedate, somnambulant vocal 'moment'. Delivered with a nod towards the legacy of John Ciafone, it's a sexy end-of-night special or a dreamy mid-set zone out. Remix-wise Defected complement Yousef's sterling work with an all star cast: Catz N Dogz add their bellowing Dirtybird bass while Fred Everything adds two hooky, beefier versions that stay true to the original's deep intentions.

Review: Parisian Kiddy Smile was said to be discovered by Gossip frontwoman Beth Ditto and he seeks to spread retro love in his beats. Said to be 'deeply Influenced by the '80s and '90s house music and the fabulous legacy of the ballroom scene', he has even performed live alongside Hercules & Love Affair and LCD Soundsystem. "Let A Bitch Know" is redolent of the heyday of Chicago acid house with its raw 808 rhythms, squelchy 303 bassline and pitch shifted vocals. There's a remix by Catz 'N Dogz too, but for our money it's all about Windy City homeboy Gene Farris, whose rendition stays true to the original but somehow gives the track a nice overall sheen and really glues all the elements together.

Review: Polish pair Catz 'N Dogz have mixed things up a lot over the last few years, expanding their musical repertoire to include nods to Balearica, nu-disco and synth-soul. Even so, they remain particularly good at delivering big, bold and breathless peak-time house anthems, as their latest release for Edible proves. 'First Night Out' is insanely heavy and driving, with mutilated trumpet sounds, raw electronic stabs and cut-up vocal snippets rising above a thunderous bassline and the most energetic house beat you're likely to hear all year. Eats Everything opts to build on this "Derrick Carter style 'boompty' house-on-steroids" feel on his remix, adding even wilder acid sounds, an even deeper bassline and some seriously mind-altering electronic motifs.

Review: This compilation celebrating ten years of the venerable German label shows that its modus operandi doesn't focus exclusively on trance melodies and low slung electro house. It's certainly true that Get Physical excels at these two variants as the eerie synths and rumbling bass of MANDY's "Word Don't Come Easy" demonstrate, but this only tells part of the story. Soul Clap's "Incoming Bitch (Get Low!)" sees tripped out acid added to the low-slung grooves, while Fuckpony's "Cell Phone Hit" is all jazzed out minimal weirdness. DJ T surprises with the string-soaked "Philly", but he can't compete for sheer out there-ness with Raz Ohara's "El Zahir", a mad mixture of warbling ethnic vocals and dense, organic drums.

Review: The German label is 12 this year, but as it faces into its teenage life, it retains the same hunger for new music. Get Physical owner DJ T delivers one of the compilation's highlights, a stab-heavy techy take on John Tejada's "Timebomb". Like a slowed down take of Dave Clarke's "Red 2" infused with disco riffs, it sets a high watermark. Nonetheless, T faces stiff opposition from The Martinez Brothers, whose "Issshhh" is all tough percussive volleys and insistent chords, like a tough take on Levon Vincent. Elsewhere, new acts like Siopis and Gorge impress with drum-heavy tools, while old hands Tiefschwarz deliver a spaced out, bleep-heavy version of John Monkman's "Follow Me".
