Review: Following up a killer inaugural release by local duo Dirty Channels, the sophomore edition of the label Take It Easy (connected to the well-known party in Milan) is back with co-owner DJLMP. For his debut EP, he shows his eclectic vision of club music. From the uplifting and euphoric disco loops of the vibrant opener "Blow Your Mind", to the funky and super lo-slung groove action of "Kachi Kachi" by the brilliant In Flagranti - which he edits to perfection. Elsewhere, we have the bleepy Italo action of "Tiger Cat" with its "Funky Town" kinda vibe and the moody late night latin house of "Angry" - which is anything but to be honest!
Review: Paper Disco's 'Trash The Wax' series reaches its ninth installment, meaning you've probably got some inkling as to the kind of leftfield-leaning electronic disco grooves that make up most of the album already. That's not to say there's not plenty of variety on offer, though: Dan Wainwright's Beloved-esque 'Take It Easy', for instance, is quite a long way from the rolling, jazz-tinged deep house of J Kara's 'Talk To Me', and quite a long way again from the cosmic/Italo throb of James Rod & Aleito's 'Raum 909'. Jahn Solo's 'Dance For Me' is the one cut here that could be classed as 'trad-style' - otherwise, this is an album that will please those interested in exploring contemporary disco's outer fringes.
Review: Riva Starr's Snatch! celebrate 10 years in the game in 2020, and this collection rounds up the best of their output over the latter half of that first decade. Tuff, chuggy tech-house is, unsurprisingly, the dominant sound here, but it's by no means all that's on offer - Rogue D flirts with 80s boogie on 'Take It Easy', for instance, while Soul Speech loops up Heatwave's 'Boogie Nights' on 'Soul Speech'. With tracks from the heavy-hitting likes of Max Chapman, Darius Syrossian, Steve Bug, Groove Armada, Wade and Denis Cruz, and cheeky reworks of classics like 'My Beat' and 'Pride (A Deeper Love)', there's useful ammunition here for house jocks of many different micro-persuasions.
Review: Despite all the recent setbacks, London's stronger than ever right now and what better way to prove it than with the totally lit LDN Selection - a sizzling new collection compiled and mixed by the mighty Plump DJs for the Punks label? The set kicks off with the leftfield tropical trap of 1 "jungle" by Mace before embark on an electric journey over the course of 24 more tracks. More highlights include the insane hands-in-the-air stadium ghetto of Stanton Warriors' "Walking" and the crunchy bassline house of "Roll Easy" by Signal:Noize. All tracks are available both individually and woven into a cool one hour DJ mix. Best of both worlds, nuff said.
