Review: With 17 tracks on offer there's no room here to list the source material for every track on this latest re-edits selection from the ever-busy Alkalino, even if we could identify them all - which we can't, because it's fair to say he's dug really deep here to find some gems. No guilty 80s pop pleasures here, just obscure disco, Italo and boogie nuggets expertly repolished to suit modern dancefloors, the arguable exception to that rule being an excellent take on the Detroit Emeralds' 1972 soul/funk classic "Baby Let You Take Me (In My Arms)", here reinvented as "Let Me Kiss You". Other highlights include the lazy, sensual "Feel The Music" and the dreamy jazz-fusion of "Ghetto Blues".

Review: The trouble with Tonbe is you've no sooner finished reviewing one long-player than the next one arrives! With such a prolific output, it's all the more wonder that the Serbian nu-disco stalwart manages to maintain the quality standard - but make no mistake, quality is what you get here. One or two tracks (eg opener 'Live My Life') veer a little too far down the pop route, but just check out the strutty 'This Is Party', euphoric Hammond workout 'Change The Mood' or the jazz-tastic closing triptych that begins with 'Keep On Moving, Keep On Grooving' and you'll surely agree that Tonbe is a rare talent indeed.

Review: Serbia's Disco Fruit label offer digital buyers another high-VFM collection of tracks that were previously only available on wax, with the album's 31 cuts coming from just six artists including scene faves Tonbe and Loshmi and label regular Evil Smarty. Between them, they run the gamut from scorching, bottom-heavy funk (Evil Smarty's 'The Get Down', Dave Allison's 'Ain't Nuthin To It', Loshmi's 'Drugstore') to deep n' soulful house (Tonbe's 'Broken Heart'), via Gradient Logic's glacial boogie nouveau and jazzier cuts like Dave Allison's 'Trade Off' and Tonbe's 'Something Jazzy'. It's more one for the jazzbos and funkateers than outright disco dollies, admittedly, but on the whole that's probably a good thing...

Review: There's no shortage of disco re-edit collections on the market right now, so props to Funk Hunk for doing things a little differently! Where most re-editors will simply loop up a track's most familiar sections and whack a 4/4 kick underneath, Funk Hunk takes almost the opposite approach, often all but abandoning the original vocal and teasing out the instrumental sections instead. What you end up with are nine cuts that, in many cases, are naggingly familiar before you've quite realised why, with sources including Phyllis Hyman, Frankie Smith, Love & Kisses, Gepy & Gepy, Vicky D and, coming right up to date, Daft Punk. A welcome break from the re-edit norm.

Review: Montenegrin producer/re-editor Sasha Mitich, better known as Mitiko, has been extremely prolific since emerging onto the scene around five years ago, reliably turning out a new album-length EP every few months - which has left him with a rich back catalogue to plunder for this 'best of' compilation. Most of the tracks here would appear to be re-edits rather than original productions, but if so then he's dug admirably deep - there are reworks of cuts by Sister Sledge, Janet Jackson and Kool & The Gang ('Celebremos' was the band's own Spanish-language version of 'Celebration'), but most of the other source material escapes us. Which, of course, just makes this set sound all the fresher!

Admirably, the mysterious V avoids the temptation to simply whack a 4/4 kickdrum under everything - in fact, many of the cuts could better be described as remixes or reworkings rather than simple re-edits. Inevitably, some of the resulting concoctions work better than others - and which you think that applies to may depend on your views on the original source material - but if you're looking for a way to drag non-house/disco lovers onto the floor, this collection should serve you well.

Review: Following the success of the first three volumes of his AOR-tinged V's Edits series, Russian producer Valique (best known under his usual pseudonym for disco-flecked funk breaks) unleashes another EP of scalpel jobs. This time, the sources are a little more obscure (the silly artist names offer clues), but the party-starting remit remains. So, we get some chunky low-slung, Fleetwood Mac-ish rock ("Because"), a dash of hustling disco-funk ("Up"), a sprinkling of synth-bass laden funk-rock ("Soul Francisco"), a thickset house version of a soul classic ("Good Or Bad") and a big chunk of '90s US garage silliness ("Love You Too") - all tweaked and teased with an eye on dancefloor devastation.
