Review: With 17 tracks on offer there's no room here to list the source material for every track on this latest re-edits selection from the ever-busy Alkalino, even if we could identify them all - which we can't, because it's fair to say he's dug really deep here to find some gems. No guilty 80s pop pleasures here, just obscure disco, Italo and boogie nuggets expertly repolished to suit modern dancefloors, the arguable exception to that rule being an excellent take on the Detroit Emeralds' 1972 soul/funk classic "Baby Let You Take Me (In My Arms)", here reinvented as "Let Me Kiss You". Review: Suburban Base Recordings have pulled every favour out of the back and left no stone unturned in their pursuit of creating a top quality compilation, giving us sixteen tracks of pure breakbeat energy. From start to finish, the quality level simply refuses to dip, from the jungle influenced drum dips and chords of 'Come My Selecta' from DJ Peekay, to the nostalgic hardcore melodies of Max Voltage's 'Make You Scream' and GBH's throwback-inspired roller in 'Back From The Grave'. Providing the perfect combination of jungle and breaks from start to finish, our highlights would have to include the jittering horn melodies of E.Kude's 'Common Sens', the synth-raining shimmers of E-Type's 'E-25' and of course the electrifying drum chops of D'Cruze's 'Life', alongside the awesome vocals of Rachel Wallace. Review: Armada Music continues to celebrate its 20th birthday with a series of suitably upbeat compilations. This one focuses on house music, offering up a swathe of genuinely seminal club cuts, crossover hits and feel-good festival anthems. It's a peak-time party starter pack that pits genuine old school anthems (Joe Smooth's 'Promised Land', Inner City's 'Good Life', Reese's 'Just Another Chance', the chunky extended dub of Chez Damier's 'Can You Feel It'), mid-90s Euro-house (Rene Et Gaston's luscious 'Valle de Larmes'), hands-aloft early 2000s gospel house (Praise Cats righteous 'Shined On Me', speed garage (Sol Brothers' 'Turn Me Out'), thumping filter-house (Phats and Small's once ubiquitous 'Turn Around' and Funk Deluxe's infamous Bob Marley remix), spicy Latin house (Afro Medusa) and a dash of piano-powered Detroit house (MK in his early '90s, pre-garage pomp).

Review: Italy's Full Time/Goody Music label family has been around since the 70s and released a huge range of music, from Italo disco and Europop to house and garage. Since 2020, they've been putting out this series of compilations, which gathers together the cream of their remix output: sometimes new mixes of old tracks, sometimes remixes culled from the original releases, and with different eras and styles all jumbled together. It's a scattergun approach that makes for some unlikely bedfellows: on Vol 5 you'll find 80s boogie from Michael Baker and Jimmy Ross and first-gen electro from International Music System rubbing shoulders with 90s chart cheese from Alex Party and smooth garage from Joe Smooth. Not every track will suit every listener, but there's enough buried treasure here to make the digging worthwhile.
