Review: After a sterling job of inaugurating DJ Koze's new sub label Hart & Tief a mere few weeks ago, Berlin hero Mike Dehnert returns to hand in an equally brilliant release for parent label Pampa. Although known for his structured and disciplined industrial techno on his revered Fachwerk imprint, Dehnert has shown that he can go deep as well, without compromising his tough as nails work ethic. On "How Close To Be", a buzzing modular pulse grinds away on top of a restrained rhythm and delay drenched vocals and its less is more approach works wonders. More modular gnarliness for offer on the spooky "Me Too", where uplifting keys are contrasted by squealing analogue grit and a steady beat.

Review: We can't remember the last time Sweden's Studio Barnhus put out a duff or mediocre release. This latest missive, from label-hopping producer LD Nero (an alias of busy German Alex "Cortex" Neumann), is another fine release. Near 12-minute opener "Put Your Heart Close To Mine" is particularly sweet, with swelling synth chords and bouncy pads riding a classic, New York house influenced groove. He dives into deeper waters on "Distant Signals From The Acid Aviary", where spacey noises and fluttering chords effectively join forces with a bold, dub-wise bassline and hypnotic drum machine rhythms.
Review: Bristol's The Allergies (aka Moneyshot and Rackabeat) blew people's minds with their debut LP, As We Do Our Thing and now they are back with follow up, Push On. We're used to the pair effortlessly fusing funk, Northern soul and big beats but this time round they've expanded their horizons to also feature hip-hop, with UK MC veteran, Dr Syntax (The Mouse Outfit, Foreign Beggars) joining the fray. Some of the many highlights include the retro soul stomp of "Entitled To That", the Fatboy-goes-back-to-sixties Southern soul of "Since You've Been Gone" and the clavinet-driven funk of "Get Down On You".
