Review: Everybody's main man when it comes to trance delivers another defining volume of his State Of Trance compilation series which once again delivers a smorgasbord of pop-infused classics to set off into the sunset with. Opening with Avicii's extended remix to Armin Van Buren's own vocal hit "Drowning" featuring Laura V, the compilation also takes in Paul Oakenfold's all time classic "Southern Sun" via Tiesto's epic extended remix, to Ferry Corsten deeper, four-to-the-floor remix of Moby's heartstring pulling "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?". A truly inspiring journey accompanied furthermore by Above & Beyond's "On My Way To Heaven". If there was a soundtrack for the road to the pearly gates, this would be it.

Now he's upped his game again by delivering a seriously impressive 24-track label compilation featuring his own work and a selection of offerings from a host of key names on the re-edit scene. Review: Cripes! Top Billin' doesn't seem to even stop for Christmas! This latest is a compilation of their best releases from 2012, and considering their pretty hefty back catalogue, they had their work cut out for them. Review: For as long as we can remember, Defected's annual Miami Music Week compilation has done a brilliant job showcasing tracks that we'll be dancing to a lot in the following weeks and months. Predictably, this year's volume is no different. There's the usual mixture of alternative remixes of familiar favourites from the previous 12 months (see David Penn's remix of Sophie Lloyd's gospel disco anthem "Calling Out" and I:Cube's brilliant revision of Peggy Gou's "It Makes You Forget"), previously released anthems (Horse Meat Disco and Amy Douglas's "Let's Go Dancing" and Ray Mang's delicious disco mix of Phenomenal Handclap Band's "Judge Not") and suitably big tunes that will soon become peak-time staples the world over (see the tracks by Bawrut, Low Steppa, Bsicits and Mighty Mouse).

Review: With 30 tracks to choose, there's no faulting the value for money on offer with this latest Salsoul collection, but a note of caution should perhaps be sounded: if you've only just discovered Salsoul and are doing some exploring, then this isn't the best collection to start with, because most of the label's best-loved tunes already featured on Volume 1, back in 2017. That potential commercial weakness is also, however, the album's greatest strength, because it's the more obscure cuts that will be of most interest to long-term fans... and there are plenty of both! With a mixture of ACTUAL original mixes plus a few contemporary rerubs from the likes of Dave Lee and Danny Krivit, this is a worthwhile and rewarding addition to the ever-growing roster of Salsoul comps.
