Review: As Miami Winter Music Conference spins around for another year so does Toolroom's affiliated compilation showcasing why Mark Night's label remains at the precipice of mainstream club music. Bringing with it two full length DJ mixes and exclusive tracks from crew like Alex Kenji, Jerome Robins and Camila Jun, there's also banging numbers from legends like Green Velvet, Nicole Moudaber and Shadow Child next to Low Steppa and Tony Romera! ESSEL kicks off the compilation with the catchy choral loops of "The Edge", with other highlights to mention across some 50 tracks coming from Martin Ikin's drippin' "Make U Sweat", CASSIM's disco-tinged "Wanna Feel Something" and Carly Wilford's "The Dance". Time to dive into Miami 2024 - Toolroom style!
Review: Sergey Silvertone is back on Vintage Music, the label where he got his productions off the ground back in 2010. The mood is housey, as always, and Silvertone has got seven summer blasters for you to get hold of. Our top picks are "In My Mind" - featuring Sunner Soul - for its loungey, meditative vibes; "This Is" also pricked our ears up thanks to its glitch, minimalistic style a-la Rhadoo, and "Rain In The Heart" has to be in there, too, for that driving, pulsating bassline.
Review: QD boss Diogini continues his never-ending groove campaign with this deeply trippy homage to the unknown residents of deep space. Opening with the Kraftwerk electro hymn "The Way For New Dimensions", we're soon sucked into Diogini's audio telescope, watching the funkiest planets the universe can offer. From Planet Nu Disco ("Mental") to the wonky Planet Far Out "This Is Magonia" via the good old Planet Cosmic ("O Zero O") this is a one-way ticket into the deepest of space.
Review: The trouble with Tonbe is you've no sooner finished reviewing one long-player than the next one arrives! With such a prolific output, it's all the more wonder that the Serbian nu-disco stalwart manages to maintain the quality standard - but make no mistake, quality is what you get here. One or two tracks (eg opener 'Live My Life') veer a little too far down the pop route, but just check out the strutty 'This Is Party', euphoric Hammond workout 'Change The Mood' or the jazz-tastic closing triptych that begins with 'Keep On Moving, Keep On Grooving' and you'll surely agree that Tonbe is a rare talent indeed.
