Review: This is not the first compilation to drop whose sole aim is to raise funds for NHS Chartities Together - R&S Records and Bass Agenda both delivered similarly epic sets - but "Care4Life" may well be the strongest and most diverse. Review: For as long as we can remember, Defected's annual Miami Music Week compilation has done a brilliant job showcasing tracks that we'll be dancing to a lot in the following weeks and months. Predictably, this year's volume is no different. There's the usual mixture of alternative remixes of familiar favourites from the previous 12 months (see David Penn's remix of Sophie Lloyd's gospel disco anthem "Calling Out" and I:Cube's brilliant revision of Peggy Gou's "It Makes You Forget"), previously released anthems (Horse Meat Disco and Amy Douglas's "Let's Go Dancing" and Ray Mang's delicious disco mix of Phenomenal Handclap Band's "Judge Not") and suitably big tunes that will soon become peak-time staples the world over (see the tracks by Bawrut, Low Steppa, Bsicits and Mighty Mouse).

Review: Last month saw two East European disco favourites, Serbia's Tonbe AKA Loshmi and Montenegro's Mitiko, joining forces for a split EP on the former's Disco Fruit label. Now the same imprint brings us this joint collection that gathers together the best of the two producers' 2021 output, in all three of their guises. The tracks involved are a mixture of re-edits, covers and original material; more importantly, both producers are ludicrously prolific, which means they had a huge catalogue to draw from. And that in turn means there's nary a track that puts a foot wrong here - making this an essential purchase for anyone who hasn't picked these cuts up on various EPs along the way.

Review: With 30 tracks to choose, there's no faulting the value for money on offer with this latest Salsoul collection, but a note of caution should perhaps be sounded: if you've only just discovered Salsoul and are doing some exploring, then this isn't the best collection to start with, because most of the label's best-loved tunes already featured on Volume 1, back in 2017. That potential commercial weakness is also, however, the album's greatest strength, because it's the more obscure cuts that will be of most interest to long-term fans... and there are plenty of both! With a mixture of ACTUAL original mixes plus a few contemporary rerubs from the likes of Dave Lee and Danny Krivit, this is a worthwhile and rewarding addition to the ever-growing roster of Salsoul comps.

Review: This VA is jam-packed with some of the scene's best liquid maestros, and it's of the movement for Liquid Drum & Bass 4 Autism, a group which seeks to raise awareness and money for those who have autism. Low:r, Furney, MsDos and more have gotten themselves involved, and the result is a lovely, serene walk through some of 174's most nonchalant moments. 'Eyes Closed' by Low:r is especially gorgeous, with his trademark organic sound fluttering in the wind of his creativity like usual. Changer is characteristically deep with 'Only To Be', and it's just the iceberg of what is a brilliant album for a brilliant cause.

Review: Z Records clearly don't do things by halves. Eschewing the usual format for remix albums - a CD's worth of reworks - Joey Negro's imprint is offering up a whopping 26 different versions of tracks from his debut Akabu full-length, The Phuture. So, where to start? Jimpster's touchy-feely deep house take on "Searchin" is as good as place as any (handily, it's the opening track). Elsewhere, look out for a splendid, soundscape mix of "Phuture Bound" by Ame, a tight and percussive builder from MCDE, a delightful Detroit techno-meets-electrofunk rework from Octave One, a skippy, old-skool garage excursion from Lovebirds (surprisingly) and solid contributions from Spirit Catcher, Shur-I-Khan and Andre Lodemann.

Review: The trouble with Tonbe is you've no sooner finished reviewing one long-player than the next one arrives! With such a prolific output, it's all the more wonder that the Serbian nu-disco stalwart manages to maintain the quality standard - but make no mistake, quality is what you get here. One or two tracks (eg opener 'Live My Life') veer a little too far down the pop route, but just check out the strutty 'This Is Party', euphoric Hammond workout 'Change The Mood' or the jazz-tastic closing triptych that begins with 'Keep On Moving, Keep On Grooving' and you'll surely agree that Tonbe is a rare talent indeed.

Review: Headman's Relish reissue an album that was first out in 2006, but that could easily have been released 20 years earlier. Italo, electro and new beat/EBM would be the key points of reference overall, and words like 'spiky' and 'angular' spring most readily to mind when attempting to describe most of the tracks. But there are also moments - see 'Tightropes' or 'Regrets And Tears', for instance - that opt for a smoother feel and end up sounding closer to 80s synth-pop doyens like New Order, Black or The The, while cuts such as 'Maximum Joy' and '444 Days' have a slightly heavier, more industrial feel.

Review: Predictably, Parisian eccentric Joakim is on fine form on this fifth album, his first since 2011's stylised Nothing Gold. As you'd perhaps expect, Tropics of Love isn't easy to pin down. Joakim's usual influences - acid house, synth-pop, glitch-hop, new wave and classic electronica - are all present, this time joined by an orange-hued Balearic sensibility that courses through album highlights "Man on the Moon" and Neil Young cover "On The Beach". Of course, it's not all wide-eyed bagginess with one eye on the horizontal, post-club market; as you'd expect, the album's more upbeat moments - particularly the brilliant "This Is My Life", in which a computerised voice recounts key moments in the producer's music development - all hit home hard.

Across the 12 tracks, key artists; Manuel Carranco, Chris Brogan, Oliver M & Jean Phillips, Guy Scheiman, all feature as well as plenty of showings from Ivan Gomez on both the remix and original front.
