Review: Ten years ago, Eskimo Recordings emerged from Ghent, as an outlet for mix albums from hometown heroes the Glimmers. Since then, the label has gone on to be a leading light on the nu-disco and nu Balearic scenes. Fittingly, this expansive tenth anniversary set was put together by the Glimmers, and features two solo DJ mixes featuring label highlights aplenty. For DJs, the real bonus is the huge selection of unmixed tracks on display, which adeptly showcases the depth and variety of the label's output. Highlights are plentiful, from the woozy Scandolearic vibes of Lindstrom & Prins Thomas and brilliance of early Aeroplane, to the sun-bright dream pop of Hiem, and the bouncing dancefloor groovery of LHAS Inc.

Review: It's fair to say that the Italo-disco revival has had its day, but that doesn't mean we can't afford the occasional foray into its sun-kissed world of Euro glamour (if the right tune comes along). Eskimo have always loved their pop and this tune is a lo-fi gem that sounds like a quirky early 80s new wave dance single. The Dubka remix goes all-out Euro-disco evoking the likes of Modern Talking, Kasper Bjorke delivers a velvety, piano-led electro-house version but our fave here is Tiger Stripes' raw and increasingly hypnotic take.

Review: Blende has been on the London scene for a few years now, building up a following for his classic electro-disco productions. Now he's got a new EP on esteemed Belgian synth-pop label Eskimo, and he's clearly settled right at home. "Fake Love" is excellently produced electro-pop, not unlike a much more polite Uffie, and with some subtle Chic style chords and a big juicy chorus. Villa chop up and re-skewer the original in their remix, and the humorously titled Chordashians provide a pulsating, arpeggiated and melodic version. The Living Islands supply two versions of their Tropical Doom mix (one's a dub), which isn't that doomy but is a pretty lovely Italo-disco excursion.

Review: The veritable Godfather of breakbeat plunders his personal vaults to deliver a retrospective that doesn't only celebrate his own career, but neatly tracks the development of the genre in the process. Very few producers within breakbeat have managed to stay as relevant and up to date with the scene's twists and turns as Rennie... And none have done it with such skill. As such, this contains vibes from every era... Old school (the hardcore style "Cocaine"), breakbeat's most golden glory ("2 Freaks" with Blim & Chickaboo, "Black Widow" with Uberzone, the almost techno-like "Eraser") and upfront contemporary flavours such as the nu funk silliness of "One Time" and sultry sizzles of his latest smasher "Coming Up For Air". If you're a Pilgrem pilgrim then you may already have these but if you're not up to date with breakbeat's most influential men, here's the perfect place to start.

Review: Drop Out Orchestra's "It Will Never Be The Same Again" first appeared on Aeroplane's In-Flight Entertainment mix in October 2011, and here we finally see a single release on Eskimo Recordings, including a set of remixes from the likes of Moullinex and Punks Jump Up. Moullinex takes the optimistic core of the original and injects some Chicago snare rolls and a rounded, plucking bass line that sits in the back of the throat. Punks Jump Up meanwhile utilise a notable clap drenched in a deadly phase that cuts right through the beat. The vocal hook, fierce piano stabs and soft guitar sounds all dovetail with effortless aplomb, making for a very enjoyable cut that rounds off a fine release.

Review: It's been almost five years since Kris Menace used the Stars On 33 moniker, and his musical style has shifted several times since then. Whereas back then it was for a typically shiny, disco-tinged house EP, this time round it's for something altogether more emotion-rich and Balearic. Sure, he's still basically making house, but this time it sounds looser, more organic, more disco even. Both "Keep On Dancing" and "Luv" both strike a positive balance between swooping, string-laden disco and piano-heavy Balearic house, while "Something You Can Feel" pits sturdy bottom end electrofunk against cute jazz guitars with considerable success.

Review: Some would argue that Aeroplane's productions have not been the same since Vito De Luca and Stephen Fasano went their separate ways. While Fasano is rebuilding his career as The Magician, De Luca has been left to carry on producing and DJing as Aeroplane alone. Here he brushes aside criticism of his debut album with a debut mix set. It's actually rather good, offering a typically accessible and synth-heavy mix of groovy contemporary disco (Cosmonauts, Drop out Orchestra, Poolside), unreleased exclusives (his own, auto-tune heavy "Save Me Now") and forgotten gems (Stars On 33) that touches on curious Balearica, Italo and punk-disco. This digi version is available in its intended mixed form, but you can also buy the tracks featured individually!

Review: The Belgian purveyors of esteemed discoteria known as Eskimo revisit Bottin's fine contribution to their recent output - calling in some excellent producers to add their own slant to "Discocracy" and "August". Creme Organisation's Bangkok Impakt commences proceedings with the playful Italo techno reflex of "August" which melds the original's soaring elements with some devilish analogue arpeggios, whilst Relish Recordings' resident unpronounceable Finns Hannulelauri give "Discocracy" a gentle electro rerub. Gomma boss Munk tackles the same track, adding a live yacht rock sensation which slowly transforms into a mid tempo analogue freakout - a most pleasing remix. Bottin himself offers a Coup D'etat rerub of "Discocracy" that is all about those expansive drum pounds! This shiny digital release also comes with a second Bangkok Impact remix of "August" that didn't grace the vinyl version.

Review: Ilya Santana, a man whom we can say with some degree of certainty is the Cayman Islands' finest disco export, releases this lovely new EP via Eskimo Recordings. Santana's pedigree is well established - his first ever release came on Daniel Wang's Balihu imprint no less, with subsequent productions seeing the light of day on Tirk, Permanent Vacation and Gomma. He also released two fine 12?s on Eskimo in 2010, namely Burning Jupiter and Erin. "Transborder" is classic Santana tackle - 80s synth work, emotive strings and an immensely pleasing disco thud. Remixes come from two esteemed sources; Minilogue (Mule Electronic, Cocoon, Wagon Repair) and Letherette (Planet Mu, Warp, Ho Tep). For our money it's Letherette's off kilter, twinkling re-rub that resonates the most.
