Review: If you're UK-based and into D&B then chances are you've already raved to these tunes among 50,000 other junglists in Winchester's famous Matterly Bowl this summer as Born On Road proudly present some of the key theme tunes for this year's Boomtown. Written by Bristol artist Kreed, 'The Time Is Now' comes in a variety of editions featuring powerful vocals of Eva Lazarus and Inja. All versions shining brightly with soul and hope for a brighter future, the release comes complete with a brazen junglist work out from the currently unstoppable Kleu 'Find Your Light'. Lighter crew, this one is most definitely for you.
Review: The Audaz boss and re-editor par excellence serves up seven fresh takes on vintage dancefloor nuggets both very familiar and slightly less so. Sources this time out include The Isley Brothers' 'Fight The Power' ('Fight It',) the Peter Jacques Band's 'Dancing Down The Street' ('Everyone You Meet'), Steely Dan's 'Peg' ('This Is Your Big Debut' - a brave move, but it works!), the Steve Miller Band's 'Fly Like An Eagle' ('Wanna Fly'), Stargard's 'Which Way Is Up' ('This Side Up') and, most surprisingly, The Chordettes' 'Mr Sandman' from back in the 50s ('Bring Me A Dream') - all handled, of course, with Alkalino's usual flair.
Review: Next Wave Acid Punx DEUX marks the second electrifying compilation from Eskimo Recordings, masterfully curated by Berlin-based musician and DJ Luca Venezia, aka Curses. Spanning some 50 tracks - this extensive collection weaves a captivating narrative connecting the dots between industrial pioneers like Throbbing Gristle, EBM legends Nitzer Ebb, and the post-punk experimentation of Malcolm McLaren or Big Audio Dynamite, all the while introducing us to contemporary talents such as Boy Harsher, Nuovo Testamento, and Years of Denial. With direct inspirations coming from personal voyages through Luca Venezia's record collection during lockdown - DEUX transports us through a hazy, pulsating clubland from yesteryear where a sonic journey pulls together other talent like The KVB, Jennifer Touch, Kris Baha and a selections of Curses own remixes and revamps.
