Review: Midnight Riot's latest re-edit/rework outing is an all-star affair, with a variety of cheeky scamps delivering a track each. Dot 40 manage to turn in a genuinely revelatory version of a classic in "I Believe", which impressively chops and loops a Jackson Sisters' classic before unleashing the song's party-starting powers as it progresses. GG re-invents a Modern Romance classic as a spiraling, Latin nu-disco throbber, while A Digital Needle make merry with another familiar disco-soul classic, impressively teasing out the vocal and instrumental solos. Best of all, though, is Fatneck's "Circulate", which subtly breathes new life into a White Isle-friendly blue-eyed soul classic.

Review: Forever the horizontally inclined innovators, International Feel introduce a mild curveball in their direction with Flights of Fancy, a new series showcasing what Balearic should sound like - through the custom made Ear Dimension Filters they employ on the coastline of Punta Del Este of course. The identity of those behind Flights of Fancy remains a mystery, as does so much with International Feel, but regardless both tracks present adopt a vintage discofied aesthetic that will find a place in many a heart. "Love's A Dancer" comes across like a forgotten Moroder gem given the Noid recordings treatment, whilst the altogether more widescreen vision of Balearica that is "Tempo Of The Night" positively glides towards the runout groove.

Review: London label Fancy Human is the collective of Leigh Morgan, Rob King and Tom Coulling. Morgan also runs Urban Torque and offers us some sublime deep house that fans of Freerange or Retrofit will definitely dig. First track "Sandy Peanuts" is a lush and cruisy affair that is great to get the evening started in eloquent fashion. The remix by Amsterdam's Frits Wentik is superb: bumping, slinky tech house that works! Staying on that vibe is "Time To Chime" that serves up equal smatterings of melody and soul while "Lobe Lube" is the kind of sexy late night deepness that could of found a home on Steve Bug's Dessous equally well.

Review: Fancy Human co-founders Rob King and Tom Coulling once again don the Lucatwana guise for their first outing of 2017. Title track "Kinda Hooked" is deliciously loose and dusty, sitting somewhere between the jazz-flecked warmth of Detroit deep house, the low-slung grooves of dancefloor jazz, and the smoother explorations of labels such as Retrofit and Freerange. "I Can Dig It" is similarly eccentric, and features bluesy horn samples rubbing shoulders with elastic acid lines, intergalactic electronics and a sweaty, dirt-encrusted rhythm track. It's tricky to easily pigeonhole, but hugely enjoyable - much like the majority of their back catalogue, in fact.

Review: Like a fine wine or a robust single malt whisky, Leigh Morgan seems to be getting better with age. Since co-founding Fancy Human in 2015 - some 12 years after his first productions slipped out on wax - the experienced producer has delivered some of his finest deep house cuts. There's plenty more top-notch material to be found on this attractive three-tracker. The fluid and rolling "Cherish My Spaces" is featured in two forms: there's the "Vocal" mix, where snippets of a woozy, R&B-influenced vocal wrap themselves around rich pianos, spacey electronics, crunchy drumbeats and a thickset bassline, and a lilting "Instrumental", which includes a spine-tingling bassline. The late '90s UK deep house revivalism of "I'm a Man With Hands" completes a tasty package.

Review: As the spring is finally putting herself to bed and summer's tucking her in, the crew at Fancy Human are back with their next offering, "Gin and Justice". It has been a while - but as they have said before, those Lucatwana boys don't half like a slumber: but it's nothing that a sharp stick and the promise of a free gin can't fix! Seems that tactic works a treat and they are in excellent, disco tinged/housey form on the opening track "'Just Is'". As if that news in itself is not exciting enough, they have also welcomed a new artist to the fold - Runs With Scissors: who have put in a rather sterling effort on their debut track '"Let U Know'"

Review: This latest album-length excursion by Montenegran nu disco regular Sasha Mitich finds him largely exploring and expressing his love for all things 80s - perhaps never more so than on 'Someone Like You', which could have come straight from the soundtrack of some coming-of-age movie starring at least one of the Brat Pack. Elsewhere, 'Back To Funk' brings the 80s boogie vibes, 'Woman Saying' recalls the likes of Fern Kinney or The Captain & Tenille and 'Your Life' slips in some cheeky Bee Gees bites, but the standout by far is the ultra-funky 'Fancy Dancer', a rework of the Commodores cut of the same name from 1976.

Review: A relative newcomer to the scene, having popped his release cherry as recently as 2019, Ruksby is a Moscow-based disco, acid house and electro producer who's known in real life as Alexander Klygin. Here he brings us three perfectly serviceable disco workouts, kicking off with the upbeat 'Disco In My Head' with its "You're like the music/Playing in my head/Everywhere I go" male vocal, before moving on to the slightly more sedate 'Mlfy' with its layered strings, and concluding with 'Fancy Love', a proper drifty, dreamy slow-burner with some nice lil' jazzy flourishes here and there. Solid stuff all round.

Review: Dutch duo Authentiek Recept pitches up on Pole Position Recordings with a hustlin' dose of bumpin' jazz-house. While the swinging grooves recall classic US house, the relentlessly snaking sax line and tongue-in-cheek vocal samples take the track in a fresh new direction. Those of a certain vintage will recall similarly minded house tunes from the late '90s, but few have trodden this path of late. L'Atellier provides a suitably sleazy remix, while the largely sax-less dub - all loose jazz drums and deep chords - offers a nicely deep alternative. Deeper bonus cut "High Temperature" - available in two solid mixes - is worth checking, too.

Review: Well-travelled producer Claus Voigtmann delivers the follow-up to his 2018's debut album. Inspired by his busy touring schedule, Life Miles is for the most part a dance floor release. The tripped out, acid-flecked grooves of "Transitory Moments" and "North of the Sun" capture the spirit of early morning raving. "Lowrider" adds some rolling break beats to this bugged out style. Voigtmann goes deeper for "Abundance", which resounds to a pulsating bass and punchy drums, while the vocal sample heavy "Figures Of Eight" is a more stripped back affair. It's not all club tracks though. On "Send Love To The Future" and "Headlong", Voigtmann shows that he is also adept at crafting smoky, post-club tracks.
