Review: The Poker Flat filter sifts through its immense catalogue to pull up a fresh new 'best of' chapter. Tracks come Boris Dlugosch, Marco Resmann and Steve Bug to Vince Watson, TJ Kong and Alex Niggemann all deliver the goods, be burning italo basslines, techier dub techno and 80s synth to percussive melodies and other minimal actions. Simon Garcia goes deeper into tripper arpeggio mode with "Cavern" while the words of Theo Parrish feature in the Juno-106 house sounds of "Lectures". Get some extended minimal players from Mihai Popoviciu in "Call Me", with Detroit and Chichagoan sounds further permeating the compilation in "My Side". Dope.

Review: Legendary German imprint Poker Flat continues into 2021 with the latest in their B Sides compilation series. As it says on the tin, Chapter Six presents the best of their back catalogue between releases numbered 126 to 150 - which were around 2012 - 2013. Starting off with label boss Steve Bug's 'Tell Me Why" taken from his album Noir, Alex Niggemann's expressive piece of mood music entitled 'Tangram" (The Deep End) from back in 2013, the sexy late night shuffle of Mihai Popoviciu's "Here", Carlos Sanchez getting deep down and dirty on the afterhours bounce of "Conclution", Hamburg heroes Kollektiv Turmstrasse lending a typically emotive and bittersweet vibe to their rework of Daniel Dexter's "Birds" and who could forget the low slung swagger of "Facebook" by Diynamic chief HOSH.

Review: By now, we should all know what to expect from both the Balance series and Danny Howells, namely slick, atmospheric, spine-tingling electronic music of both an uptempo and downbeat bent. This bumper digital version of his latest double CD mix features some exceptionally good tracks, from the exotic, psychedelic techno of Will Saul and October's rework of Michael Mayer's "Mantasy" and the evocative Balearic deep house of Joakim's "Another Light", to the dreamy fluidity of Matthias Voigt's remix of Ian Pooley's "I Got You", and the crystalline electronics and wide-eyed beauty of Maricopa's ambient delight "Neon Shoals". It is, then, a sizzling hot collection of evocative electronic music for dancers and dreamers. Don't sleep.

Review: Following news that Ben Watt no longer intends to put out new music on Buzzin' Fly, the compiling and re-releasing of some of the highlights from the label's back catalogue is timely. This third volume focuses on the high point of the label's output, the golden period from 2007 to 2008. The dominant sound here is trancey and melodic, with synth sweeps combined with sensuous strings and woodwind samples. Manoo & Francois A embody this approach on the windswept "Magnetic", where epic, acid-led hooks build over dubbed out drums, while Pedro Madeira's "Long Shadows" moves from lush strings into an epic break down. Despite this approach, there is still space for classic US house, as the dubby drums of Dennis Ferrer & Steve Martinez' version of Ben Watt's "Lone Cat (Holding On)" demonstrates.

Review: Miami Winter Music Conference may well have been and gone this year but that hasn't stopped German label compiling an immense 22-track strong collection of sexy, sassy house flavours that range from deep, heads-down groovers (Dany Cohiba's "Dirty Happy People") to real head-turning funk tech vibes such as Ruben Amaya's "Amazonia". With nothing but the dancefloor and mixability in mind, it's a pretty impressive collection with highlights such as Steve Kid & John De Mark's remix of Alistair Albrecht's wall-rattling tech monster "It It Ah!" and Dada's super bleepy "Beep Beep". Buy this now then start saving for your flight...

Review: Following the success of last year's Reformed Classics compilation, which delivered fresh and forgotten remixes of some of the New York label's best-loved tracks, King Street Sounds has decided to repeat the exercise - with similarly pleasing results. With 26 high-grade revisions to choose from, picking highlights is tough, though our current favourites include Alaia and Gallo's booming, big room remix of Blaze, UDAUFL and Barbara Tucker's sensational sing-along 'Most Previous Love', Sinner & James' driving, bass-heavy stomp through Roland Clark and Urban Soul's 'President House', Midnight Swing's tough USG revision of Mood II Swing's 'Closer' and Art of Tones' joyous, super soulful disco-boogie take on Arturo Machiavelli and Lee Wilson's 'I Need Your Help'.

Review: Jay Cunning's Sub Slayers label has now reached the fifth instalment of the increasingly respected Sub Slayers Series. He's scored a real coup here, by signing up rising 21-year old producer Toronto Is Broken to both curate the tracklist and provide an exclusive mix too. The focus this time round is firmly on garage and bass, and there are 26 bleeding edge selections to explore. Highlights include the aquatic synth pads and bottom end rumbles of Sourkrush's "Giving Me Life (Dead Belly mix)", the haunted soul-step of "Laundry Time" by Atomic Drop and the grimey dancehall of "Twinkle" by Gella.

Review: Mark Knight & Co. are straight up with their latest title - but considering their current 15th birthday celebrations, these guys can do whatever they want - they hardly do wrong anyway! House, Tech House, Techno Vol 2 does exactly what is says on the tin with a whopping 62 tracks and three continuous mixes - each dedicated to said subgenre. From that massive remix of Fatboy Slim's "Right Here, Right Now" by current scene favourites CamelPhat, Saved main man Nic Fanciulli's collaboration with Damon Albarn on "Saying" (Kolsch remix), label head honcho Knight himself steps up to deliver the pumping and white noise filled "We Get High From The Music" (feat Mr V) and the inimitable Danny Howells is always welcome - particularly with a track as electrifying as the recently released "Isolar".

Review: Ten years of tech house powerhouse Exploited's exploits - pardon the pun! A born and bred Berliner, Shir Khan started the label in his home city in 2007. The imprint now plays host to a who's who in the current tech-house climate - including Adana Twins, Doctor Dru, Claptone, Joyce Muniz, Urulu and Cocolores to name a few. Its artists have been receiving full support from tastemakers such as Pete Tong, Soul Clap, Wolf & Lamb and Kraak & Smaak. All the usual suspects appear here: many golden oldies and even some newbie surprises too - perfect for the Christmas season and to forecast trends moving forward into 2018. To prove their relevance, they've served up a whopper of a compilation: over five dozen tracks showcasing their illustrious discography. We are certain that these are timeless grooves and will prove to be just as relevant another decade.

Some of these go as far back as 2009! Take for instance Malente & Dex feat. Analogik's "Gipsy Kings" which homed in that whole loopy latin house trend - popularised by similar tunes like "We No Speak Americano". Swedish electro house dons Zoo Brazil appear as well, with their 2012 dancefloor hit "Rock The House", then get deep and slinky with Moodymanc's 2013 sleeper hit "Joy" (Ralph Lawson Dub). They were even doing jazzy/dusty deep house as far back as 2011, like on Homework's "Whipped Cream". Remember Serge Santiago's remix of Murphy Jax's "Let's Get To It" featuring the inimitable Mike Dunn? It's here!

But when best describing the label's success thus far, we'd have to give honorable mentions to the true staples of the label. The legendary Chicagoan James Curd (formerly one half of the Greenskeepers) has kept on going from his new home of Adelaide, Australia and served up some of his best work in years. The emotive and bittersweet "Forever My Friend" is just one example. Likewise, Belgium's Compuphonic appears several times also - his recent hit from earlier this year "Metropolis" appears in all its soulful and evocative glory. Here's to another 10 guys, cheers!

Digweed's knack for sniffing out the most cutting edge progressive and tech house grooves is second to none and you can bet that this set is chock block full of narrative, innovative grooves: one journey you'll never forget! Review: Hot off Randall's Mac 2 label, Pieces is a ludicrous collection of behemoth tunes found, remixed or simply well-placed in no particular order. Why? Because he's good to us like that. Featuring a stellar line-up of OGs and freshly hooked-up newcomers, this is 18 tracks of pure drum and bass energy ready to make a mess of your cochlea. Special mentions for the DRamatic remix of Lenni Dee Ice's "We Are IE" and Trex's massive stomper "Sudden Impact" which should currently be tearing up the dancefloor in your nearest darkened warehouse with a soundsystem. Instant purchase.

Review: It's been 15 years since UK garage pioneer Jeremy Sylvester (24-Hour Experience, Jazz Mondo, Groove Committee etc) set up his Love House label, which is presumably why they've chosen now to release their first-ever label compilation (not counting 2013's 'Love House Sessions' mix album). With the catalogue spanning a decade and a half, there's a fair degree of variety on offer here, from bumpin' garage organ grooves ('So Addicted', 'Destruction') to tropical/tribal workouts ('7 Ways To Love') to shufflin', jazzy deep house ('Organic Deep'), making for an album that should suit lovers of that classic mid-90s house n' garage sound down to the ground.

Review: Based in Hamburg, TAU is a label started in 2018 by Benjamin Busse and Friso Traas aka Adana Twins, that has released tracks by scene heroes such as Glowal, Echonomist, The Cheapers and many more. The label presents their second instalment in the 'Spektrum' various artists sampler, which features top shelf material by the likes of: Southern Italian duo Underspreche who deliver the entrancing pizzicato inflected vibes of "My Beloved", German veteran Ruede Hagelstein delivering impeccable dancefloor drama as always on "Aschera", ascendant Berliners Local Suicide teaming up with Duro main man Theus Mago on the dark disco odyssey "Technican" and Watergate's sound engineer in residence Biesmans, who provides yet more successful efforts in his newfound love of music production on the neon-lit Italo acid energy of "Wild Wild World".

Review: Following the release of Part 15 during the summer, Innervisions drop the latest secret weapons that feature in Dixon and Ame's sets. With a focus on vocals and woozy melodies, this collection captures the energy of the Innervisions owners' DJing. A case in point is the flowing groove and haunting tones of Ivory & Filippo Nardini's "Could You Feel The Love" or Hardt Antoine's woozy, acid-frazzled and appropriately named "Inside Your Mind". On other occasions, the collection veers close to pop territory, audible on the electronic groove of Cipy's "Trip" or flirts with 80s synth pop and electronic disco on Samantha Loveridge's "The Pusher". But no matter the direction, like all previous selections, Secret Weapons 16 makes for essential listening.

Review: Pandemic fatigue is no doubt affecting Millennials and Gen Z'ers here on Earth. Meanwhile, on Planet Mars, we're sure it's getting quite tiresome on the space rover for those stowaway party animals aboard. The solution: Repopulate Stars - Escape Gravity. Featuring 10 selections of sunny and punchy tech house curated by Lee Foss & Co. which will no doubt bring some summer heat to the Red Planet. Review: One of the leading deep house labels from Serbia, The Purr Music was created by Jelly For The Babies and Fisher Filip back in 2014. Their label is mainly focused on releasing quality deep and melodic house music, as best heard on the 12 tracks compiled on this special release titled Anesthesia. Highlights comes from Navaa on the meditative and sensual deepness of opener "Luz Eterna", Jhonatan Ghersi serving up some emotive mood music for the late night on "Caminos Olvidados", Facundo Losardo picks up the pace with the hypnotic polyrhythms of "Ilirio" and Bjorn Salvador, Leon S. Kemp, Marta Vidar close things out in style with the glassy eyed and bittersweet "Walk In To The Light".

Review: The underlying approach on Collected is towards toolish, tribal DJ grooves, but that only tells part of the story. While tracks from Fog & Arara and Noir & Westboy rely on conga drums, rolling rhythms and breakdowns bigger than Charlie Sheen's latest identity crisis to make the cut, there are other more subtle contributions here. Sabb & S Elezi's "Sax On Wax" is an effortless deep house jam; Pirupa & Pigi's "Sweet Devil" uses sensuous strings to guide it to the dancefloor and Jay Lumen's take on Collin &b Behnam's "The King", with its massive sample eulogising Michael Jackson, makes a pleasant change from the usual Martin Luther King samples. However, Jerome Sydenham & Timo Garcia's "Mutualism" proves that it's possible to sound inventive with tribal rhythms - as long as you lace them with insistent chord stabs.

Review: Buzzin' Fly compilations always take on a retrospective feel, looking back at what the label has achieved with a proud (and wholly justified) sense of achievement. They are much like family Christmas cards that fondly round up the year's activities for friends and relatives. As part of their 50th single celebrations this spring, they deliver a compilation of Buzzin' Fly classics as the next instalment of the Focus On series. Penned by Chris Woodward, an integral part of the imprint?s close knit family, this release serves as the audio family newsletter created to celebrate reaching this impressive milestone. All the big moments are there and each family member features, from Ben Watt to Spencer Parker, Justin Martin, Mlle Caro and Franck Garcia.

Like Buzzin Fly: 5 Years in the Wilderness, (and all four Volumes in the Buzzin' Fly series) this compilation digs into the imprint?s revered back catalogue to commemorate its particular achievement. The former was applauding reaching five years whilst the latter celebrates reaching their 50th release. Over seventy-five minutes, Chris Woodward picks out some of Buzzin' Fly's flagship tracks such as label boss Ben Watt?s "Guinea Pig," Spencer Parker's "The Beginning" and Justin Martin?s "The Fugative." As Woodward hones into some deep, intricate, house action, he delves into Buzzin' Fly's trademark mix of deep house, melodic techno and electronic disco. We see cuts like Jay Shepheard?s remix of Glimpse and Martin Eyrir's "Southern Soul" standing shoulder to shoulder with Darkmountaingroup's "Lose Control." Woodward also adheres to the Buzzin' Fly tradition of house that is both sonically ornate and driving in all the right places by including moments like Mlle Caro & Franck Garcia?s beautiful "Dead Souls" and Ame's club fuelled remix of "Insomnia".
Buzzin' Fly specialises in deep and beautiful house music. Their long standing resident has done the admirable job of paying homage to that sound and all the producers that help shape it, in one retrospective compilation that proves just what a force Buzzin? Fly has become over those 50 releases.

Review: Well it is that time again: revered Berlin imprint Innervisions presents the 11th installment in the acclaimed Secret Weapons series, and as always does exactly what it says on the tin. Expect the very best in emotive house and melodic techno as curated by Ame and Dixon - who stated quite succinctly themselves as "to create vivid moments, be it after hours or peak-time.' Highlights coming courtesy of rising Spaniard Pablo Fierra on the folk-inflected/sunkissed vibe of "Tel Aviv To Casablanca", the return or veteran British producer Thomas Gandey (Cagedbaby) who teams up with Santiago Garcia on the spooky dancefloor drama of "On Two Strangers", Israel's Yotam Avni who continues his impressive run of tracks into 2019 on the utterly hypnotic "Regis Is For Regisford" while label staple Denis Horvat gets into some properly futuristic groove action with "Vetiver".

Review: For the 13th time, Dixon has delved into the "unreleased gems" folder on his USB stick and chosen some Secret Weapons to share with Innervisions' fanatical followers. It's a bumper selection this time round too, with no less than 13 previously unheard club workouts to enjoy. The plentiful highlights include, but are no way limited to, the bleeping, electro-clash-goes-tech-house throb of 'Heart Transplant' by David Kochs, the warming wonder that is Woo York's 'Bohemia' (which sounds like Moby's classic remix of Pet Shop Boys 'Miserablism' re-imagined for the Innervisions generation), the hushed late-night sleaze of 'Ruby' by Jonathan Kaspar, and the trance-inducing, big-room ready bustle of Dominik Markz's 'Object in the Mirror'

Review: Second time around for Nico Moreno and Mewhy's excellent 'Opposite Minds' album, a lockdown-inspired fusion of the former's dancefloor-focused electronic disco and house sounds and the latter's pop and indie-framed vocals. This time round the album has been remixed by a wealth of international talents. There's plenty to set the pulse racing throughout, from the slipped dark room wooziness of Re.you's remix of '100 Miles' and the tech-tinged deep house perfection of Aera's revision of 'Maya', to the twinkling pianos and hushed beats of Xinobi's fine revision of 'In My Head' and the psychedelic electro-disco-goes-acid house flex of the Fairplay re-interpretation of 'One Too Many Times'.

Review: Just in time for the weekend we are treated to this awesome collection of tracks picked out by Proton honcho Jay Epoch . The quarterly released barometer of progressive goodness to come from the always on point Particles label. Featuring the likes of; Shintaro, Andrew Benson, Dapple Apple, and Santiago Garcia, across 10 tracks starting at just L4.99. What with the slightly quieter detox month of January in full swing, this is the perfect package to keep you locked behind the decks all weekend!

Review: New York City's DJ MDW cooks up quite a hybrid of sounds for his latest release on Flava Music. Clearly a testament to the wide spectrum of sounds he plays across some of NYC and Miami's coolest spots. Alongside Jossep Garcia he lays down some quirky Latin flavours and rhythms up against an Electro backbone to keep it floor friendly. Out of all the mixes on offer, its Edson Pride & John W who hit the nail on the head stripping it back to raw elements and making it a credible peaktime prog roller.

Review: Topical and relevant to the national consciousness at large as we accelerate through 2012, a landmark year for the nation's capital, Scott Garcia's "It's A London Thing 2012" certainly grabs our attention from the off. The classic original re-edit is a hypnotic piece with smacking beats and an enticing swing. The 2020 mix shakes things up with a futuristic edge and slowed down, swaggering rhythms; Billy Daniel Bunter & Sanxion whack in a whole load of purple wow-esque synths alongside a good dose of trance-like euphoria and dubstep squeals. Loki Boi takes things basswise with squelchy bass belches, whilst B Gnarly does just that with his stomping re-work, and then Certified Sickness gives it the D&B treatment.

Review: Like many on the Washington D.C scene, Thomas Blondet has a reputation for open-minded musical fusion, mixing deep and dubby dancefloor grooves with all manner of global sounds and styles. Let It Shine, his first single for two years, is a little more straightforward than some of his tracks, but no less potent for it. In fact, it's something of a sunshine-ready soulful house roller rich in jaunty electronic riffs, positive chords and superb, gospel-influenced vocals from guest Anaud Strong. The accompanying remix package is pleasingly strong, too, with Jay Porter's bouncy, organ-sporting interpretation and Rissa Garcia's booming, sub-heavy late night Dub being our picks.

Review: There's something oddly brilliant about a forefather of UK garage music dropping a release on the L2S label - typically home to ace first-release future-garage artists. The man who dropped 90s anthems such as "It's A London Thing" hits home with the vocal joy of "U Could Be" as well as the speak 'n' spell jazz of "F.U.T.U.R.E.G.A.R.A.G.E". "Want 2 Be' is just as hot, sporting an enormous bass line and some crisp drums, as well as a commanding, Detroit-style narrative vocal. We're unwilling to say that an old master has learned new tricks, but this is an unexpected and hyper-modern EP of new-school garage warmers.

Review: Label boss Shir Khan describes Secret Gold as a "mini compilation series", with each release showcasing previously unheard cuts from the extended Exploited family. This second EP expands on the three-track formula of the first, offering five solid saunters into the worlds of house and techno. There's a chunk of revivalist rave-era house fuzziness from Jesse Perez (the sturdy "Mama Me la"), a formidably bass-heavy tech-boompty take on Claptone's "Maximum" from Joyce Muniz and some delicious synth futurism-meets-deep house from Purple Velvet. Oh, and some siren-laden midtempo "Bounce" from the fast-rising Jack Fell Down.

Review: Our progressive hot pick of the week once again comes from Digweeds Bedrock label, hot on the heels of their Classics series of compilations they flip the release schedule once more with something totally new. The Original is a very sparse production, keeping the listeners attention with an array of dramatic fills, bleeps and squeaks. Where this really shines and is most playable is the awesome remix from non other than Steve Bug, who lays down some of his finest work in some time. Straight in the playlists of the worlds elite, there is also something tasty from Simon Garcia as an alternative... Big release!!

Review: It's been two years since we heard from Simon Garcia, a producer who last appeared on Steve Bug's Poker Flat in 2012. Here the Spaniard embraces loops and repetition by delivering a deeper take on disco-influenced, Tiger & Woods-styled house music, with the title-track grooving with chimes and octave jumping Rhodes to appease the Saturday night crowd. "How Long" is a heavy disco burner you can imagine DJ Harvey using to light up a festival set, while Mathew Styles delivers a minimal remake of "Radians" laced with a huge dose of euphoria.

Review: Brighton's Timo Garcia has seen his stock steadily rise in the world of tech house over the past few years. Here he teams up with fellow house hero Wagstaff to deliver the impressively ominous "Fibonacci", an almost seven minute moody teched-out jam full of evocative atmospherics and full throbbing bass melodies. Elsewhere on the remix front we have Copy Paste Soul, who opts for a livelier version with rolling, skippy drums and retro organ sounds, whilst Jacky goes for a much more frenetic harder Eurohouse vibe.
